Re: No Sales in 12 Days. Why!!!

Good Afternoon

I haven't got a clue why you haven't sold anything for 12 days. Sales are sometimes classed as feast or famine. You are starving at the moment, that said you have had a good run recently.

Try offering something other than comics in other words mix it up a bit. Don't despair you will no doubt make a sale soon.

PS:  I thought that I was the one who ate your hamster.  Freddie Starr.

There's the law averages works in mysterious ways and there's no equation that says a certain amount of listings should = a certain amount of sales over so many days...however like you say with 600 promoted listings you have every right to be concerned and if the powers that be at Ebay had any business sense so should they.. It's up to Ebay how they run their business but surely a great business is where everyone is happy.

Re: No Sales in 12 Days. Why!!!

eBay sales have been declining for a long time, but now Simple Delivery has been introduced and made mandatory, alot of private sellers(myself included) have stopped listing item's, and also stopped using eBay to buy stuff because of Simple Delivery, alot of private sellers would sell items to get the money to buy things of eBay, and alot of people are furious about Simple Delivery & Buyer Protection Fee's, so it has a knock on effect with everything else.

3 sales only in the past 2 weeks absolutely dire to say the least - all my items promoted as well - ready for giving up now as fees and postage costs now taking most of my profit with so few sales.

Re: No Sales in 12 Days. Why!!!

After a quick look at your listings they all seem to be for similar things.  Collectables are as prone to the vagaries of fashion as anything else so it really is likely to be feast or famine for you.  At some point in the future the same things could well sell as fast as you could list them.

You could try ending some and re-listing them as that would get them to the top of the search if people are looking at Newly Listed first.

Oddly I sold something last night and another this afternoon both of which I'd given-up on shifting; one had hardly even been Viewed in the weeks it had been up.  You just have to wait for the right person, or people, to find your stuff.

We all have three major issues.

1. The general chaos that is ebay's current strategy. There is no point in debating this as its been covered in numerous other threads and it wont be changing anytime soon.

On top of this we now face:

2. The summer period - which is is always less busy &

3. The UK economy, and consumer confidence, is in steep decline resulting in buyers holding back on discretionary spending.

Looking at you stuff:

Clearly your stuff is very desirable, as proven by 2.1K of past sales. They have not suddenly fallen out of fashion so I would suggest sticking with it.

I would say though that I don't see why you are using 'Tracked' delivery. Have you looked at 2nd Class Large Letter (which is cheaper) and/or maybe removing 'Free Delivery' as a means of reducing the headline price?

Re: No Sales in 12 Days. Why!!!

@cthulhuatemyhamster - I'll happily provide you with a little insight from my perspective regarding your listings and indeed the current environment within this specific type of items. I am probably exactly the type of person within your target market. The fact you have the mighty Cthulhu in your username is of instant interest to someone like me for starters. If you google "DLS Reviews" you'll find my website, which will probably give you an idea of who I am, what I buy and promote, and the communities I'm an active participant within.

This then leads me onto precisely why I, as well as others I liaise with within these communities, are possibly skipping past some of your listings. The subject of ebay's recent changes has been a consistently discussed matter over the last 6 months within bibliophile groups, and therefore I am aware that my opinion is also a shared view held by many within this niche space.

Firstly, any listings which appear to have an odd pricing, say £11.07 or £18.34 will generally be skipped past, unless it's for a particular, often scarce item which we're very keen to get (i.e. so no impulse buys). The reason for this is because we're acutely aware that the pricing was probably originally set at a reasonable market price. Then, and this is the crux, BPF was added on top of that reasonable market led pricing, hence the funny new pricing. This makes us think we're now paying over and above the reasonable market price, purely because it's being offered on the ebay platform. This is straight away something which puts off a knowledgeable buyer in our particular market (we buy a lot, so we're quite a clued in community). Listings which have been adjusted to incorporate the BPF within the price however, or indeed business sellers, therefore have a massive advantage. I therefore cannot recommend enough making such adjustments to the pricing of all your listings.

Secondly, now that SD has come in, having the "buyer pays the postage" is instantly off putting for book/comic collectors too. This is because bibliophiles are inherently precious about the books they collect. So Evri is not a preferred option. However, should Evri be taken off the table, then we're aware we're paying over and above the normal cost for RM postage. Even if you allow both RM and Evri, and we select RM, we're still paying more through SD than we otherwise would. Although I appreciate this is only a small difference, it nevertheless leaves a disagreeable taste in the mouth.

Context however is key. Like many in the book collecting circles I move within, I have a collection of probably c.15,000 books and maybe c.5,000 comics. I still purchase from private sellers, even if they've not adjusted for BPF and/or I pay the higher postage rates of SD. However, I do prioritise my purchases towards those business/adjusted private sellers, and do far less frequent impulse purchases where the aforementioned BPF/SD are not taken into account.

Like many in this area, I also do not actively seek out multiple purchases in the same transaction when I'm paying the postage etc, as this is often not adjusted correctly by the SD algorithms, leading to me paying far too much in postage for multiple purchases.

As a reminder, these are not just opinions held by me, but rather those of many within the book and comic collecting community. The result has led to us venturing outside of ebay more. AbeBooks, private websites, and indeed one-to-one sales within collector forums, have all risen dramatically, as has sharing our collective experiences with these alternative platforms and sellers. We talk a lot! It's a good space to be within.

The outcome is unfortunately, we're buying less on ebay generally now, but especially from sellers who have not adapted their listings to understand these collector grievances. This has all been discussed extensively in our forum groups and at conventions and auction houses. We're adapting to ebay's suicide. You probably need to do the same.

I hope this helps. Some cool listings BTW.

Re: No Sales in 12 Days. Why!!!

Hi,

I've had a look at your site as a person who know nothing about your type of items you sell.

Your pictures are great.

The Titles are not giving me full details of what I'm looking at - try adding Comic, Marvel etc. -  the eBayer may be buying a gift & not know exactly what they want.

Too many capital letters in Title -  the Search does not like them.

Prices are good, but too many prices showing 99p at end of price -  needs variation.

If you have an eBay shop - offer small discount if more than one item purchased on one transaction.

My relative in USA & I have many discussions at what he tries when selling his items & his findings are when listing an item again use 'sell Similar' to get a new eBay number & change the Title wording round & show different picture.

All the best.
