NiNo is not required by HMRC - ebay have once again stepped over the mark. NINO No.
I have checked with HMRC - they do not require everyone to give away this particular part of their private number - it is not Law.
The new postage system is a joke - every item I have tried to post using their system ends with incorrect charges being made. Why do you do this ?? Every move you have made away from your original selling system is rubbish. This time, these lat two moves by you will end in your company losing so many sales you will have to shut down.

It amazes me that with all the doom and gloom flying around their share price today is close to their 52 week high.

Can you supply WRITTEN EVIDENCE FROM HMRC to support your claim, since it is contrary to the following information on the government web site:

It tells ecommerce organisations what they need to provide to HMRC.

It couldn't be any clearer, could it?

Sorry but that is complete nonsense, obtaining and verifying Tax Identification Numbers is a requirement of 'The Platform Operators (Due Diligence and Reporting Requirements) Regulations 2023' and clearly outlined in HMRC's 'International Exchange of Information Manual':
https://www.gov.uk/hmrc-internal-manuals/international-exchange-of-information/ieim902310
The information that must be collected is set out in the model rules. This may include data that Reporting Platform Operators (RPOs) will already collect as part of onboarding and registration processes, or for AML/KYC purposes.
If the Seller is an individual, the RPO must collect:
In the case of a corporate Seller, the RPO must collect:
For UK resident companies, the TIN will be the CRN.
Where the Seller is renting immoveable property on the Platform, the RPO must also collect the address of each property listed on the Platform (see 902520).
This information ensures that HMRC and tax authorities in partner jurisdictions can correctly identify the Seller (or rental property) and can match the reported information with the relevant data held about the Seller (or rental property) effectively. RPOs must therefore take adequate measures to ensure that the information items above are obtained.

This is the page in HMRC's 'International Exchange of Information Manual' specifically concerning Tax Identification Numbers:

National Insurance numbers seem to be required by eBay as a way of ensuring that members of the site are who they say they are. It is of critical importance that eBay stores this data safely. HMRC doesn't require us to give it to eBay but then HMRC doesn't stand to lose any money and won't make good eBay losses. I hope that eBay doesn't share the information with their partners with whom we have not contracted.

Thanks for sorting this issue out.

Thank you. You and sml192 have clarified this. So eBay has collected private information which they must handle in line with the privacy regulations and they have been instructed by legislators to collect it. I had thought it was all about them needing to be certain they knew who was active on their site but there is more to it. I'm a bit leery of those who are unhappy with supplying such information.
