Hi, i would like to bring to the attention to all private sellers out there in the UK something i have experienced today with this new system started from 04.02.2025 to receive funds 2 days after order is delivered.
Yesterday an item sold for nearly £70, today at around lunchtime i got ready with my orders to get them to the post office and moments after i purchased a label for the orders, i have received a cancelletion request for the £70 order. As i have not sent the items yet, just tried to cancel the order, but was not able to do so, because a label have been purchased yet. I void the label for which i have to wait up to 2 weeks to get refund on postage fee. Also got in touch with ebay CS and they suggested that my only option is to refund the buyer. I did that and surprise, my actual ebay balance have been charged £70(the amount of the order). I now had to get in touch with ebay cs again and ask them why my balance have been charged for something i have not been paid in first place. CS replied that i they have placed a request for my money to get back to me and i have to wait now 24/48 hours, if i don't get my money back to get in touch again. I have to wait now. What if this was £1000 or £3000 item? I will be out of pocket for days.
I also thought something else. Imagine this situation - a newly registered buyer uses his new credit card(with standard limit of £1200 that is given to anyone) to purchase an item/items for £1100 from you. After you post the items buyer send you cancellation request and calls his back to request a chargeback or states that he cannot recognise this transaction. Bank will refund his money and your item will then arrive to them. Obviously this is a scam. My question is - is there a mechanism that ebay have in place for such situation? Sellers would be protected, and ebay will need to cover sellers as they have posted the items, or maybe not?
