Effective February 2025, ebay will hold private sellers funds for 14 days if the order is posted with an un-tracked delivery service (such as Royal Mail 2nd Class).
I think it's a brilliant idea if they want private sellers to leave the platform in their masses.

It’s almost as if eBay don’t want private sellers anymore?

Yes, for £77 per month, while US gets that for $27, which is what we pay for the basic pack with 250 listings.

You don't have to have a shop, and that is not the basic shop price.

It’s £27 per month for the subscription for the basic shop with 250 free listings. To get 1000, you need to pay £77 per month. Just upgrading to business seller is £19.99 per month

I see where you are coming from now, but there is no monthly charge just for having a business account.

Yes, I did find that, but you don’t get any allowances and no reductions on fees, so you pay either way. To be honest, if I was doing better, I wouldn’t mind paying the monthly subscription. But since they have started putting restrictions on private sellers, my sales went down. I do believe it is to push private sellers to upgrade.

Only the private sellers who should already be registered on a business account selling all new items.

Royal Mail confirm delivery even for untracked items , you know the delivered status on your say 2nd class postage untracked on your despatched orders (btw that includes large letters too for a while now)
so no idea why this isn’t sufficient and they require tracked
but I believe you don’t have to sign up to the new simple delivery system

Not always. It’s only if the postman bothers to scan it. I even put labels on stating scanned on delivery, and they still ignore it.

Absolutely hit the nail on the head, I thought ebay was turning it around dropping their fees, now they just live off the interest they earn holding our money.
holding it for 2 days after delivery could be being "held" upto 5 days at least.
don't know if I should buy shares, there surely coining it in!!!

Well, you don’t have to sign up to it now… but it will be automatically applied to all private listings in sometime in the next 6 weeks (end of Q1), no opt out possible.

its ok them holding the money and making interest BUT they hold it all back, how are we expected to send items without the money, money should be in a pot and be allowed only to use to buy postage/couriers, then the balance is released when the buyer gets it , this is going to make some myself included not selling as some items can cost £10/£15 to send and if you sell lest say 4 items at £10 postage that £40 to find to send

'.....how are we expected to send items without the money,....'
I think ebay are hoping that you use 'Simple Delivery' through choice.
(Simple Del. will, *apparently,* become compulsory by the end of spring this year, though I, for one, am seriously hoping for a roll-back of that idea!)
With Simple Delivery, the buyer chooses and pays for the postage; not the seller. So the seller won't have to find any postage money before being paid.
There are other benefits to Simple Del, like ebay being responsible for 'non-delivery' refunds instead of the seller. But there are definite drawbacks to SD as well; being told *which* postal/delivery service to use is going to be a bit of a stumbling block to lots of us!

Sellers will only be able to buy postage (until Simple Delivery comes in) or make refunds with the held money - they won't be able to use it for buying.
Postage costs do not come out of your 'held' money, they come out of your 'cleared' funds.....

If you upgrade to a business account, the new rules will not apply, but the fees are much higher

That is incorrect.
I sold an item on my private account and bought my shipping through eBay using RM and used the money that was on hold that the buyer had paid.
The shipping cost cannot be withdrawn to use your own choice of courier externally.
I really wish the correct information was posted, it's like they are purposely trying to put doubt into peoples minds.

If nothing else it is just more personal admin - before it was - list, sell, get paid, post item, check received, swap feedback - simples - now it is list, sell, pay postage (out of your own pocket and before you have received money for the postage charge that you applied), post and set reminders to keep checking back to see that you were actually paid for the item and postage that you have already parted with. Just change your name to eVinted and be done!

When simple delivery becomes compulsory will only receive a label so problem solved. 🤔
