AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

I think as a result of SD they are edging out Private sellers. My opinion is they aren't necessarily doing that as a strategy rather being monumentally badly advised etc.
While business market is strong , those out side Ebays niche markets / categories are most vulnerable so edging private sellers who sell a fair volume is pretty stupid thing to do 🙂

There will always be an element of resistance to change "ludditeness" 🙂 but you would expect the project to have put some though and effort into dealing with this . Not really happened , the email announcing SD was mandatory was appalling and hey presto its still not happened
My opinion of SD as a marketed product brand for Ebay is it encompassing all the other aspects I.E Free to sell , BPF and delaying payments . SD is the only thing that Ebay can claim to be unique to Ebay as terminology
Having looked at the process that are entailed in SD its just got so many flaws in it and that is just for the private sellers etc. It really is not a portable model and there are markets where it simply won't work to anyone's benefit. Whilst its apparently working wonders VTD the BPF and delayed payments etc will start to cause noticeable issue as VTD expands
To make SD into the vision that Iannone is promising his investors then it has to be global and the financial benefits it will allegedly produce will have to applied to business sellers
There was so much Ebay could have done to fine tune their own model that would have been mutually beneficial for all parties , which is best way to grow and expand

I'm about to register a private account to sell a few things not associated with the business, I'm not looking forward to it in the slightest after reading many of the posts on here.

Hi
My advice is......read everything when listing and check everything twice at least 😞
16-10-2025 3:51 PM
? Business postage rates are all still all over the place so what feedback was ebay responding to regarding bringing in simple delivery ? and its over charging aswell ?
16-10-2025 3:52 PM
....And then check again at regular intervals to make absolutely sure that ebay didn't alter anything while you weren't looking.

Just wasted 15 minutes attempting to list a cassette - scanned, uploaded scans, filled in Item Stupifics, described it, priced it....
then I got to shipping...
SD the only option!
WHY?!?!
For a £3 cassette which would post in a Large Letter!!
Listing aborted at that point, and cassettes now join LPs, books & music sheets in the ever-lengthening "No Longer To Be Listed On ebay By Me" list
Ebay, you are so f...f...f frustrating!!!
Grrrr!!!

"....And then check again at regular intervals to make absolutely sure that ebay didn't alter anything while you weren't looking."
I've put a couple of listings back that can be sent with custom delivery. I think, but I can't be 100% sure, that ebay has added something to the Item Specifics. You feel as if you need to take a screenshot of your listings at the point of creation, in order to make sure that ebay aren't subsequently altering anything.

Oh, they do, believe me!
Twice now I have had buyers of multiple items, all of which I had listed with custom delivery, that were then paid for - half by Customised , half by Simplified. Because I had the address from the Customised bit, I was able to send them, & tell the buyer that they may/should get a refund from ebay of the (unused) SD shipping.
So, yes, ebay will, on sale, change some items to SD. Some (most for me) they don't, but it's anyone's guess as to how that is determined. (It may be when the accumulated amount goes over £20? or summat like that)

I know it suits some ebay apologists to claim that those of us who don’t want to use SD are just being awkward because we “don’t like change”, but that is to completely misunderstand (maybe deliberately?) the fact that it is not change in itself that many of us are against, but change FOR THE WORSE. And for a great many people, SD *is* a change for the worse (incidentally as are nearly all the changes that ebay has made recently).

I don't get how simple delivery is so random with delivery couriers ,my partner had 4 identical parcels all going to the same person and address yet 3 of them were for royal mail and 1 was evri and he wasn't able to combine postage so he did a deal with the buyer ,seems so stupid ,and I get all evri one day and all royal mail the next .So who chooses which courier is used because it isn't the buyer and our evri shop is 2.5 miles away from us so it costs us extra time and fuel getting there but opting to use just one courier my end doesn't help . ....choosing only one courier can potentially cost more because you might be excluded from cheaper options, and delivery costs can increase, especially for items that might require a specific carrier or are going to remote areas. By limiting your options, you may also limit the number of buyers who can see your listing.

'I think EBay made that bit up about buyer feedback. No one who is complaining mentions having responded to a survey. Had you? I think it has more to do with copying Vtd, and making a small amount off the postage as a result of doing a deal with Evri and RM!'
Yes - even assuming they did actually get any complaints, it's hard to think what complaints about private sellers postage would not apply equally to business sellers postage.
Personally, I don't want all private sellers to be obliged to offer the same postage services at the same prices... eBay's prices.
A big part of the fun of shopping with private sellers was not only the variety of the items, but the huge variation in their listings, descriptions & postage prices. Things like AI descriptions & auto-messaging, Simple Delivery, 2 day dispatch & auto-feedback, are draining the creativity & versatility from the place. 😞

Well said !
"Do the ebay apologists think these business sellers are against change per se?"
Of course they don't, but it's a useful stick to beat private sellers who complain with because it implies that our simple minds can't see what's good for us so we just stamp our feet and shout "NO" instead of embracing the latest ensh*tification of the site, rolling over and doing what ebay wants.
IMHO ebay is no longer a site that provides a decent service to private sellers and until it is I won't be using it for selling or buying.
I'd encourage all private sellers to write themselves a "Pro's and Cons" list of what ebay offers and another for what it no longer offers them that it did when they first signed up. The difference if they've been here for a few years or more, whichever way you look at it, is huge and there is little that can be described as having been an improvement.

Very interested in this feed and would like to share my story and get others feedback.
I sent a £225 stamp sold with simple delivery on eBay. The buyer selected Standard Royal Mail Tracked postage which has protection up to £75 (not my choice).
The QR code was incorrectly scanned by the person operating the Collect Plus scanner at the Post Office. My proof of postage receipt said "failed parcel" I spoke to the teller and showed him the receipt and he said it would "be fine".
After 12 days beyond the delivery date, with the parcel not having been delivered and it being stuck at a Royal Mail Sorting office (with no phone number) on tracking, I felt obliged to refund the buyer before Ebay did it themselves.
The Ebay website states on it seller help page regarding simple delivery:
You'll be protected if the item is lost or damaged from the point the item is scanned into
the carrier's delivery network and until it's marked as delivered.
However it is unclear to me how this should be raised with Ebay or how to go about getting this refund. I feel let down by the Post Office, Ebay and Royal Mail. any ideas please?

If the parcel is lost when a simple delivery label is used, the buyer is supposed to open an item not received case and eBay refund (not from your own funds, eBay should cover it) though I can’t find anywhere eBay actually clarify this.
I am not sure what happens given you’ve refunded yourself.

'I felt obliged to refund the buyer before Ebay did it themselves.'
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh dear. That was a mistake.
But an understandable mistake. Over the last 20 years or so on ebay, we have been conditioned to look after our buyers, keep them happy and sort out delivery problems for ourselves afterwards.
Unfortunately that's not how Simple Delivery works.
If you sold (and posted) an item under S.D. and it doesn't get delivered, ebay refund the buyer themselves whilst leaving the original payment with the seller.
This is the (singular) good point about S.D.
I'm not sure how to proceed with this...... but the first thing I'd do is request a call-back from ebay C.S. ; But make the request at about 8.30 in the morning if poss. This increases your chances of getting a call back from C.S. in Ireland. This helps with sheer language comprehension, and the Irish centre also seem to have more common-sense and a little more agency to actually do stuff......

Thanks. The refund can't have fully processed (although it appears to have processed on myEbay) as the Bank account I have linked has insufficient funds and no overdraft facility. I don't know if this will be any help though...
16-10-2025 8:40 PM
But presumably if receipt says "failed parcel", that suggests the receipt is null and void so no proof of posting.
16-10-2025 8:59 PM
Given they said it showed as being at a sorting office I’d assumed that it had been tracked through the system.
16-10-2025 9:02 PM
Yes. And I have a collect+ receipt that says thank you for sending your parcel with us and a tracking number. And another receipt that says something about a failed parcel.
