AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

In my personal experience I know SD does not work for me in it's present form.
I don't need to actually list something to realise that.
I know I've not listed anything since early April but I have created a lot of dummy listings and none of them were viable for me.
I know it depends on what items are being sold and what category they come under.
But something that is half baked should never be forced on people.
Compulsory SD is what finished me off as a seller.

'This thread doesn't just contain users that complain about issues that aren't really issues.'
Yes - to suggest otherwise is accusing sellers of just complaining for the sake of it, which is really not the case where Simple Delivery is concerned. Most people can adapt to change, if it is a change for the better - or at least no worse than what was previously on offer.
This thread has documented many of the very real problems sellers have encountered with Simple Delivery - and most of them are absolutely not just problems of adapting to a new system, or 'not liking change'.
If Simple Delivery happens to suit the type of items you sell - and the courier & service on offer for those items are pretty much the same as you would have chosen with Custom postage - then you won't experience the difficulties and obstacles that other sellers are having to deal with. That doesn't make those difficulties unimportant, or just trivial grumbles.
There have been many changes to eBay over the past few years, but surely Simple Delivery is the only one that has effectively stopped some sellers from selling altogether, or made it not worth the time & trouble?

Same, for me Simple Delivery just does not work for me. The vast majority of items I sell, are either better (in price) via InPost (or a courier not covered by SD) or excluded from couriers compensation - and I definitely do not trust eBay to cough up on their own insurance. Especially since buyers will tend to write "item not as described" instead of "item arrived damaged" when returning something - the latter is what eBay will cover under SD, but the former is up to the seller to accept a full return and refund on, losing 2x postage in the process.
I do list items, however the hoops I've had to go through to get Custom Postage have got more and more tedious since April. You can't even do it at all on a mobile phone via the app, it has to be done via a browser.
If I want to use Simple Delivery, I'll just use it on a case by case basis, where it benefits me. Not all the time where it inconveniences me, costs me/the buyer more, and just lines eBay's pocket knowing that they (probably - my best guess here, no certainties) paid £2.50 for a label up to 15kg via bulk discounts, charged me the best part of £10+, where I would otherwise have used InPost and paid £5.99...

I'm not going to buy a browser just to sell on ebay using Simple Delivery which i know doesn't work for me. I sold Signed cd's from my collection. Because I sent them by LL and including the extra protection I put around them, only once did one get damaged and that was very close to Christmas.
I resolved things with the seller and got my money back from RM quickly.
I even received positive feedback from the seller who returned the item.
Things like that kind of interaction have been lost because of SD.
LIike I've said in the past, there hasn't been one single change this year that has benefited me in anyway.

I totally agree.
Even with the changes made in the first 19 years of using ebay nothing stopped me from selling even though I might not have liked some of the changes.
But since the beginning of 2025 not one change made has benefited me or even left me the same as i was.
SD is still not the finished thing and even though some of the other changes have not benefited me, SD has been the one main thing that convinced me that selling here at present just isn't for me.

I hate to say it but the impression I’m getting is that some posters on here are now commenting and arguing just for the sake of it on things they nothing about - how can they when several haven’t even tried to list anything since SD came about.
Of course you don’t have to list anything to know enough about SD to know that you don’t want to use it, any more than you have to put your hand in the fire to know that it’s not a good thing to do! I don't see how you can say posters here know *nothing* about SD when this thread and dozens of others are littered with the problems people have using SD!

well I paid a fee and had custom postage for years and was quite happy to do so. Obviously we would all have liked it to be lower but then when don't people want lower costs! I sold family stuff, nearly everything was small parcel or large letter and low priced, very rarely ever sent anything tracked and yet not one item went missing! Same with buying, i never buy from anyone using EVRI because of previous bad experiences and somehow i have managed to receive everything. I no longer sell on here because of the SD.

T he question is though, why do you list all those clothes items with the competition? Was it because of SD or some other reason? If it was SD, what were your problems?
14-10-2025 8:59 PM
I think we will always disagree, I know its not great but its not half as bad as many on here love to make it out to be. You dont need to use evri, you can turn that off, you can have royal mail bring a label to you too. The only sellers who have been really screwed are LL, small parcels are about the same price and better insurance.
Again though if eBay said you can have custom postage but you have to pay the old style selling fees would you rather do that? I asked previously but you didnt answer, thats the only reason I'm repeating it. We all know the real reason SD is here is too make eBay money so they can say its free to sell, so if it wasnt free to sell but you had custom postage would you be back to selling?

I obviously can not speak for eBay but to any sane person the reason this has come in is to claw back some funds which they lost from 'its free to sell'. Any normal person knows eBay couldnt survive on no fee's so this is what they introduced. Its had its problems, but really its not half as bad as the deaths stories on here and any benefit is shot down with dont be an ebay worker and try and convince me blah blah.
Theres an easy way for you to get custom postage though, be on a business account, as you handmake your products you're a business, and really you should be on a business account not a private one which should be for unwanted personal possessions. The amount of businesses that are illegally trading that complain about SD is comical, breaking the law them crying about being forced to use something where if they were nto breaking the law they'd not be forced to use.

People will have profiles to just post on here as if you upset somebody they can easily bid on your items and ruin your listings.
Theres plenty of positives, the extra insurance, the fact you dont need to fight evri cs or Royal Mail if there is damage is huge. If it was so bad Vinted and eBay both wouldnt be doing it, yes it will make them money but it also saves people a lot of hassle.
Its odd that majority of people who disagree seem to have sold thousands of items, its almost like they should be businesses anyway but maybe I need to do more research eh.

It makes one wonder why you accuse people on here about being sane or normal as you so put it
But putting aside your so called expert assumptions
You are another individual that disrespects this thread and refuses to stay on topic
THAT TOPIC IS RELATED TO SIMPLE DELIVERY
You offer nothing in any constructive way regarding Simple delivery associated problems,
In reality you are another troll that just wants to talk about converting sellers to different accounts

SD lacks flexibility. I had a sale and arranged collection and bring the label. I then decided to cancel the collection as I intended taking it to the post office a day earlier. But when I got there was unable to get the label printed as ebay don't provide a QR code once a collection is booked. EBay customer service would not or could not issue a replacement label with QR code so I had to cancel the sale. The buyer hasn't replied to my messages explaining that they can buy it again. I don't know if ebay are blocking the messages. There needs to be a reason added for cancelling a sale 'problem with SD label'. What is the point of advising to contact customer service about problems with labels if they can't or won't help?

That means you could be anyone really and could be posting under numerous ids! Unlike you I am not trying to hide anything . I only have one account and I have absolutely no issues people looking further . If you have got multiple private Ebay accounts its not me who is actually breaking the rules !
For your info I had been selling for over 22 years and yes I have sold 1000's of item but that equates to average of less than 5 a week which hardly constitutes a business ( I don't sell elsewhere) and as I am not a business, stopping selling is not that big an issue for me . I primarily use my selling to subsidise my own hobby .
However having sold 1000's of items I am probably a bit better placed than you to comment than you when it comes to the pitfalls of SD etc as I far I can tell you have never sold anything . So what you are saying lacks necessary credibility .
If whatever reason Ebay ever deemed that I had to change to business ac then regardless of SD , I would become a pointless waste of money trying to sell anything on Ebay . That would be true for a huge amount of Ebay sellers on a global scale regardless of whether they have currently stopped selling or still carrying on . What Ebay have actually done is make the gap between between Private and Business sellers bigger
This model currently works well for VTD but that does mean it is a perfect model. It has some fundamental flaws that means it won't work everywhere and what Ebay has done so far very much underlines that, it really has not gone well and comparing it to a car crash is quite a fair reflection .
SD on the surface should offer some better protection but only if the sellers responsibility is absolved once the item is with courier . SD is no different from home collection in terms basic consumer law but the reality is the seller still has a significant risk but their control has been compromised . The problem is as much I may want to sell what I choose to sell is governed by that risk . So when I do get round to disposing of some high value items from my collection , its unlikely to be on Ebay now. At present I would rather give my lower value items to charity .
