NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Back to topic - Just looking at the sheer amount of comments and anger suggests this was a dumb move by ebay, are they going to listen?

In fairness, this is a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of their userbase, even just in the UK, so while it's noisy, is it actually representative?

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I wanted to share an experience about SD and a lost parcel and what happens under SD in that case.

After 27 successful sales and postage sent by Evri (many sent by SD) I had my first “lost item” claim.

the person contacted me to help. Item from my pov was successfully delivered using rather detailed (15 data points) tracking. I got my money 2 days after.

he asked about the address I used. I explained I don’t see it or have address it’s all on a digital label printed in store (label now expired so can’t open it) and I explained about SD and that eBay handles it now and all issues must be resolved by eBay. I told him how to do that and he opened a “not arrived” claim.

I received this from eBay almost immediately :

Hi Xxxxx,

We want to let you know that your buyer opened a request because they haven’t received their item.

We see that the item is on its way to the buyer. Since you chose Simple Delivery, we’ve got everything covered from here. There’s nothing you need to do. We’ll take care of delivery, resolve any further issues, and inform you when the request is closed.”

then a few days later I got this:

Hi XXXX,

We've reviewed your case and have decided to issue the buyer a refund of £XXXXXX without any impact to you.

This case is now closed. You aren't required to reimburse the buyer or eBay and this case will not be counted in your seller performance evaluation.”

I thought people would be interested in how it works. I admit I was worried but I kept my money and the buyer was reimbursed and so all good from a customer pov. I assume eBay gets compensation from Evri.

I think this is good as saves having to claim or fight with postal company and argue with buyer.

so another reason to like SD (wink)

They have partially listened such as giving up trying to do a combined small/medium parcel rate, doing a crude implementation of combined postage but SD needs more concessions and improvements to be acceptable. Unfortunately they still seem to be forcing SD on people, violating their listings and getting people into messy situations in the meantime.

Out of interest, what sort of item was in the parcel?

Also what was the rough value?

I'm glad to hear you had a good experience.... And it's nice to see a positive comment on here, but unfortunately I do not trust the process myself....

Just how long do you think this system is going to last then?  Do you really think that e bay/Evri/Rm are going to keep on paying out for every not received case?

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

"Back to topic - Just looking at the sheer amount of comments and anger suggests this was a dumb move by ebay, are they going to listen"

I don't believe they listen to most things, although I am sometimes getting messages from eBay, telling me they have listened to Members and then go ahead and make changes for the worse..... And I kinda admire their child like reverse psychology (that was sarcasm)..... and I do realise people voicing their opposition to Simple Delivery are probably a tiny minority, and without everyone who dislikes Simple Delivery voicing their opinions, it's difficult to really gauge if there is a massive amount of people stopping selling..... But I really do think Simple Delivery is one change that clearly has people saying enough is enough and boycotting eBay.....so perhaps there is a slim chance they may reverse their decision.... I think it would be to their advantage,as some people are going to use Simple Delivery anyway.... So surely it would be better for eBay too have both Selling, user's of Simple Delivery and none user's

I also think eBay should really listen to people wanting Buyer Protection Fee's scrapped and revert back to Final Valuation Fee's for sellers, and a reasonable Final Valuation Fee for Private and Business Sellers.....i have no problem at all paying a Final Valuation Fee.... But on low cost items(which is normally what I sell) it has to be a reasonable percentage, or it's just not worth Listing the item......

eBay has felt dead for a while, and people are so negative about the whole experience on here, they really need to regenerate sales somehow, just like the Old eBay of Past.... Stop trying to be Vinted....!!

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

The last item I sold was with listed with custom postage. It failed to sell first time round. It was listed with Royal Mail tracked 24. I resisted and it sold. When I went to the order details it had been changed to Simple Deivery by Evri. I didn't use Evri as that is not what I specified. I took to the post office and paid for 48 tracked. I managed to enter that it was dispatched but couldn't add the tracking number. Messaged the buyer with the number and waited 2 days after delivery and contacted Ebay. They initially wouldn't accept the delivery as received but I informed them that an agent had told me how to get customer delivery and that the sale amount would be credited to my account. They refused to credit my postage costs and said as the Evri label had not been used they would refund to the buyer the postage cost. Hence he got free delivery out of my pocket. I was unaware Ebay had altered my listing and suffered the consequences.  I know I can select Royal Mail only but at what cost. I want to sell on my terms.

Another question about your experience please.

I haven't ever used evri so have never looked at their "exclusions" list.

Would your vintage game have been included on that list for any reason ?

I'm happy for you that ebay came through and compensated the buyer.  But I can't help wondering  would they have been so amenable if it had been a parcel of mine containing a vintage glass item?

Glass is on every carriers exclusion list that I've ever looked at, including what was then Hermes.  Ebay did mention something vague about compensating if the item fulfilled the carriers T&Cs, but (to my knowledge) has never clarified which takes priority.  Ebays blanket statement "We'll compensate for loss or damage" or  evri's T&Cs including their exclusions list ?

Since my last item for sale on ebay was a rare glass table-lamp priced at £749, with BPF increased to £771, I think ebay owes it to their sellers to be absolutely crystal clear and above board about which one does apply in every case.

We're now into month 2 since SD was rolled out and I don't think we should still be 'hoping for the best' or relying on 2nd hand experiences of other sellers (without in any way doubting your veracity).  What is and is not covered should have been set in stone BY EBAY weeks ago IMO.

It does seem insane that eBay charge buyer's a 4% fee, and I think the majority of sellers would be happy to pay a 6 or 7 or even 8 percent fee on final valuation....

No you would not be compensated for glass.... I did post the full list of things they won't pay compensation for on here a while back..... And the list is shockingly extensive and on their website.... It covers a vast multitude of what most people sell on eBay....

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

No my game would not have been excluded. And don’t forget it was successfully delivered with tracking proof. So nothing to do with me: fully insured. (The customer says never found item but it went to a work address and so… someone must have took it from reception or whatever ). When you get a postage label with Evri it tells you what you are insured up to (the price of the item). Evri and SD know what the item is as it’s linked to the category of sold item.

before SD I used Evri anyway and had to manually declare value and item type.

The max I have ever sold is £70 for some game books. I’ve never sold electronics/batteries/liquids etc and definitely not under SD. I would be very nervous selling a rare or antique item such as the glass your mentioned under ANY courier system.

(PS I work in the art and museum world so worry about £16M paintings and the like)

They are also charging the 75p fixed element so if an average ebay sale is £20 then they are making 75p+80p equals £1.55 which is 7.75%.

Ok....well I never said maths was my strong point......!! But by my reckoning eBay would still be making 0.25% more from the seller....

Well, a bit of guesswork and back of envelope calculating 😀

Ebay acknowledges that .uk is it's second largest division.

My guess that it might contribute 20 - 30% of ebay.inc's  total revenue / profit ?

Knock that down by even a few percent as private sellers stop buying and selling.

Losing even a few percent of a fifth of ebay's world-wide income is still a number with a long line of 0s behind it.  Something big enough for even Wall St. to notice?

IMHO .uk might be ebays 2nd biggest province but it's financials haven't been in too good a shape for a few years, possibly since paypal was dumped, so the dent that the percentage that .uk financials are suffering is possibly even worse than ebay.inc's .

If anyone still has any hopes that these restrictions can be reversed they should be deleting their listings and stopping buying here, now.  Not saying they will but waiting for everyone else to go first.
