AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Yes, that's what I thought, but knightinarmour said that "despite being on SD fully you can definitely select custom postage. " I've asked them to clarify.

Yes there is. I have done so twice.

I'm puzzled as most of the items you have for sale or have sold are not freepost, suggesting that the buyer would be paying for the postage label too when buying from you. How are you able to override their SD selection and if having to buy your own label how are you reclaiming the postage costs from them?
And if SD is choosing an unnecessarily expensive postage rate or service and you're having to correct the value, won't it go back to picking the wrong option when you update your listing?

1) yes at any time. After I have created postage label and at any time afterwards.
3) yes I happened to select Evri for my custom (as I use Evri 100%) but other options were available.
5) yes this was odd. I have received money exactly after 2 days after confirmed delivery AND before 2-days when getting proper feedback. BUT also I have had money early without customer feedback and getting auto feedback which I thought was odd but this is eBay we are talking about…

To puzzled guy. That’s not how SD works. All my items (well my vast 4) have SD except 1 which has custom.
on SD items buyer pays total to eBay including postage at the SD rate. I don’t see that money. I get a label which is a QR CODE. I post. When confirmed delivery I get the item money only I don’t see the postage money at all. I don’t claim anything back.
on custom - the buyer pays the total
including the postage. But you (seller) have to buy the postage out of your existing balance. When item is delivered and after 2-days or if positive feedback received you get ALL the money. Item money plus postage paid (which might be more than you paid for the postage by the way… it’s what the buyer paid). Again no “claiming back” from eBay. All automatic.

I only “override” SD postage if it’s over 2kg (as it jumps to 15kg which is over £10). I change it to Evri custom (£7.10). Otherwise I keep SD as it’s cheaper, easier and I like it!!!

Ok, I get it. So you can override the automated SD choices when listing, which as you've noted aren't necessarily the correct ones for the item being sold?
Thereafter you just have to keep a watchful eye on your listings right up until they sell, just in case?

This appears to be the app version. Online the custom option is not given. Very strange.
26-05-2025 2:19 PM
That's weird, your screenshot is totally different to what I see (attached), where there is no Custom option. Does anyone know what's going on? Are the options different on a mobile from on a laptop?
26-05-2025 2:24 PM
Yes I guess so. You can override at launch to set to custom. It defaults to SD unless you click on it and go through the options to get to custom but it’s not that hard. The assumption is always SD you have to put effort into it to get it to custom.
I’ve only done this twice and it didn’t change mysteriously mid listing.
the issue I have with SD is over 2kg. I sell a lot of RPG books and most are just under 2kg which for Evri SD is £4.06 (cheaper than normal Evri). Over 2 kg and it jumps to “up to 15kg” which is over £10. And so I select custom for my 2.5kg item and under “normal” Evri there is an option for this which is £7.10

If you click on 'package size' there and scroll down through the weight bands, underneath the 20kg option you may see 'Looking for heavier or larger package options? Switch to custom postage'

I still have the option of choosing Simple Delivery.... There is nothing going on, it just means it hasn't "Rolled Out" to me yet.... It takes time for the system to update to everyone and to "Roll Out" to everyone.... But be assured that it will....
26-05-2025 2:26 PM
Sorry, that was meant to say "I still have the option to choose Custom Delivery
26-05-2025 2:34 PM
Where exactly is this 'Package Size' option? I don't see it anywhere.
26-05-2025 2:36 PM
App and main website may be different but on main website there are two ways of “switching on” custom.
one is through weight. If you click on the weight band suggested and scroll to get to the end and there is a custom setting…
the second is under “domestic” earlier on there is a “switch to advanced setting button” (at least on eBay.co.uk) and you can select custom from there.

see for example the screenshot in message 6050 above, the second row (but i think there are different versions of this page)
26-05-2025 2:37 PM
Just click on the suggested weight and you get all sorts of options.

"If you click on 'package size' there and scroll down through the weight bands, underneath the 20kg option you may see 'Looking for heavier or larger package options? Switch to custom postage'"
I don't have that (see attached).

And if I click "Freight Only - Post Oversized Items", it doesn't give me any means of posting at all, it just goes on the the next section about Preferences/Settings.
