AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

I recently reported to eBay an item that was advertised as being in Sheffield but the contact details (name, phone, address etc) are all in China. eBay responded saying no action would be taken as they "didn't find the listing to be in violation of our policy" and this decision was made "using automation or artificial intelligence". but if I believe a mistake was made I could appeal their decision. I did so and after a week I received another rejection saying the listing would not be removed and "this determination was made using automation or artificial intelligence". It just shows that eBay are in league with those businesses that flout the rules on misrepresentation, trading standards and just general honesty, and use only AI to make decisions. They can't even be bothered to get a real person to take a look. It's no wonder eBay is in such a mess now.

"this decision was made "using automation or artificial intelligence".
"this determination was made using automation or artificial intelligence".
Call me old-fashioned but I find it quite shocking that both of these decisions were made without human intervention. There's something very wrong about it. Again it's all about money and profit, money and profit, over and over and over again. Of course all businesses have to make a profit. But plenty of businesses succeed in making a decent profit and keeping shareholders happy without descending into profiteering. It makes you wonder just how low ebay will go in their insatiable scrabble to make a buck.

How do you know the item wasn't located in Sheffield as advertised? An item can be stored in a different place/country to where the seller is based.

"You have obviously never read my posts!"
But how else would I know you've been saying the same thing in February, March, April and May (possibly Jan too but I didn't go back that far)?
'Listen verry carefully, as soon as SD starts...'
It's practically a catchphrase. Or kath-phrase. 😉

I'm not sure if all this disaster has put a general malaise over sellers, but out of my last FOUR purchases on ebay, THREE sellers have simply not bothered to send anything, and the fourth sent the wrong thing.
I'm without my money for 3 or 4 weeks due to ebays ponderous refund system. AMZ here we come tbh, at least they refund seller mistakes as soon as the return is collected!

Received the customary "it's free to sell" message again yesterday, I'm sure by now eBay must realise by the amount of posts I and everybody else has contributed to this forum (we know eBay like to read what we post) that I will no longer be selling anything until they allow me custom postage once again. 6000+ posts and counting says it all.

That's odd. Why would 3 sellers not bother sending their items? Could it have anything to do with the new SD postage? In which case it'd be a lot less hassle if they just cancelled the listings.

just to update, someone bid on an item last week, still showing custom postage but has been changed to SD for payment. Have cancelled the order and e mailed the buyer with my apologies. I then delisted all my items, all of which are still showing custom postage!! So beware those out there still having listings with custom. I will still follow this forum for a while but i will not have as much time as i will be concentrating on listing on my account on that other e site. Whether i get sales or not i will be trying....

pretty much think that a normal person on this e bay forum knows that 'as soon as SD starts' relates to when it starts for that person! By the way i delisted everything this morning because even though my item showed custom postage the bid was then changed to SD and i cancelled the sale. You need to grow up

Recently i sold two items using custom postage. On my orders page ...firstly it comes up with loads of info encouraging me to use Ebay lables and simple delivery. BUT when i scroll right down the page it does give me the buyers address and will allow me to add my own tracking number.
One of my orders has a warning about the address being incorrect. It is correct because its a village about 2 miles from us and a village where we visit weekly. Ebay are saying the county is wrong......no it isnt!
I am guessing when the boundaries changed years ago Ebay did not realise 😞 We are very close to 2 different counties. 2 to 5 miles from us. We are West Midlands but close to Staffordshire and Shropshire as we live on the edge of the city.

I must be lucky, I don’t have a problem selecting custom postage options. I sometimes forget where it is, but it’s still there for me.
also, I find if I choose an old listing, and ‘relist’, even if I make changes, the option to use custom postage is there.
but if or when that changes for me I won’t sell on eBay. ‘Simple’ delivery is an abomination.
26-05-2025 10:31 AM
A third county....Worcestershire is only 10 miles from us too 🙂
26-05-2025 10:40 AM
Just be wary as it now looks as soon as anything sells even you were able to select custom postage eBay will force you into simple delivery. I listed something using custom postage briefly then delisted as a test and it went into not sold-relisted as a test again and was put on simple delivery.

Your county conundrum would be enough to send eBay and AI in to melt down.......

Don't take it out on me. I'm genuinely shocked that your items listed with custom postage have apparently sold with SD instead and am grateful for the heads up. I don't blame you at all for delisting and I'll now be watching my items very carefully.
As for 'leaving when SD starts', apologies but you must have noticed yourself repeating it several hundred times. And even if you hadn't you shouldn't be too surprised if others have. 😁
We all operate on repeat to a certain extent. My own catchphrase is 'I don't understand it'. As in, WHY is Ebay voluntarily falling to pieces? Just because some higher up bigwig decided it was a good idea, probably.

Yes! I know for certain that there are several warehouses in london , Sheffield and Manchester and likely others around the country too.
Chinese stuff i've bought from Evilbay, Ali **press and T*mu etc have arrived within a couple of days with the originating postage marks being from those locations and the free returns lables from them all being addressed to the same place in manchester so i assume that's the main distrubution hub.

I have reported that situation many times but they are not interested because they make so much money from Chinese sellers. My husband bought a guitar from China on eBay based on the glowing reviews. It wasn't particularly expensive if the spec was to be believed (about £170), but more money than he was prepared to write off (so in my opinion he should never have ordered it but hey ho). When it arrived, surprise, surprise, it was a pile of junk. The Chinese seller did their usual act of saying "Hello friend, we will offer you a 30% discount, etc etc etc." which went on for days. It was looking like he wasn't going to get a full refund so he opened a case - item not as described - and spoke to CS. He spoke to a lovely Irish bloke, who admitted that "there wasn't really any robust returns process in place for Chinese sellers". Usually as the sales prices are so low, the Chinese sellers, or eBay themselves, refund in full eventually without any need for a return if the buyer is persistent. But this seller wanted the item back. My husband was advised by CS to take the guitar to the PO, get a price for sending it back so that the Chinese seller could send him the money (over £90!!!!) for the postage. My husband had to then package the item up and send it. After a week it was then stuck in customs. So we had to phone CS again and eBay, after a few days, gave my husband a full refund, even though the guitar was still stuck in customs marked as 'incorrect paperwork'. And may still be there for all we know. So eBay is happy to let customers buy from dodgy Chinese sellers without any proper returns process in place with the full knowledge that most of them are selling rubbish that is so cheap that they can just afford to write it off if the customer complains. So really we shouldn't be surprised by any of eBay's recent antics.

I feel I need to dispel some SD myths. I’ve been on SD for new listings for a while and all my old listings were “transferred” there was also a transition period too (explained below). I am a private seller, only selling unwanted items many of which were bought on eBay. I don’t make any profit.
1) YES you can definitely contact buyers. There is a button for that and you can access that in a variety of ways.
2) YES you can deselect one of the two options currently RM and Evri. I don’t use RM.
3) despite being on SD fully you can definitely select custom postage. For example over 2kg on SD is £10 something. Way too expensive. I am able to change it to custom (Evri 2-5kg which is £7.10).
4) transition: I found with one item which was launched PRIOR to SD, when it sold, SD became available to me and I could purchase SD post at SD rates but the cost came out of my cleared balance. I then got the full monies PLUS postage paid once item had been delivered.
5) getting money. You get money 2 days after delivery or if buyer gives positive feedback. HOWEVER at random I’ve got
money earlier without positive feedback and auto feedback was given. Auto feedback isn’t shown on the item (where normally it says “positive feedback received”) but does appear in your “total”. The buyer can replace the auto feedback with their own.
6) I find SD post quick to achieve (single press of button) rather than doing it separately through say EVRI login and keying address details etc. No faffing about.
7) for me on Evri (I don’t use RM for personal reasons) it is cheaper £4.06 instead of £5.30 odd like for like service . And yes you can see the SD cost at launch.
😎YES you can still have collect from home. Yes you can have that as well as post (so far not happened for me).
9) NO cant see combined postage and invoicing. I’ve had 2 persons buy 2 things each and paid postage on each without complaint.
Thats all I can think of.

Is that before or after postage is selected or payment is made?

Custom postage means you could select ANY carrier, not just Evri. Have you been able to do that?

Auto feedback is supposed to be given after 7 days. Are you saying that you’ve received auto feedback earlier than after 2 days?

There is no way to select custom postage any more.
