AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

I don't use Vinted but that figures, seeing as ebay are copying what Vinted does.  It's a pity ebay had to copy the name as well as the practice though.

Maintaining an already long  installed system is definitely an operational cost . If E2E security were to fail or to be compromised Ebay would cease to trade immediately . They are duty bound to maintain it at their cost and not  quote some kind of fake protection insurance as a reason to fund it .  Ebay are perfectly entitled to fund via valid transparent service costs such as properly named buyer or sellers fees .  As said their are probably so reluctant to do that as it would take  some of the fake shine of "Free to Sell" mantra as it would clearly show they have just  renamed the sellers fee to a buyers fee

Its not only misleading to customers its probably breaches FSA rules as well  and the more you think it through the worse it gets . 

The only thing buyers fee could be said to be as protection for Ebay to mitigate the risk they have created by implementing SD. With SD the seller is no longer responsible for delivery and from a basic legal point of view all the Seller has to do is hand to the courier for that legal responsibility to be  absolved . Ebay get  round this by changing T&C's but this in itself is one monumental reason for sellers to stop selling  as what BPF actually does in practice is increase the risk on the seller as they have no choice to accept Ebay's refunds and returns for which the seller has no control .  

The VTD set-up  is very clever but has  limited application and only really works or is safe for lower value items . At some stage Ebay will need to work out old model  was so much better . Copying VTD was never the answer to Ebay's problems , they just needed leadership that understood their business and not some else's 🙂

Please can we keep the posts from discussing the pros and cons of vi**ed and avoid technical posts.

It would be a great shame for the thread to be closed because of differences of opinion,  and because of posts straying away from the problems and issues that SD is still managing to cause users of the platform.

I have an issue with "simple delivery". Somebody suddenly bid on 2 fabric listings, 1 was a parcel, so is simple delivery, 1 is LL so custom postage. I quickly messaged buyer to say I couldn't change parcel, so to avoid 2 different postage, I could cancel both listings and relist both together as buy it now. Buyer agreed so that's what I did, ( both in same simple delivery parcel). I looked a little later, yes buyer bought again, but had also bought another piece with custom postage, and bought 2 more as collection only to make up for the other postage!! 

All now going in 1 parcel, and I asked buyer to send me the qr code number for the collection ones even though they will go in the parcel. Which he has done.

How on earth is that "simple delivery "?? Course I couldn't do an invoice because 1 of the listings was "simple delivery " and the message came up that eBay deals with anything "simple delivery "!!

It's all such a palaver now, especially if someone buys more than one item. You have to go all round the houses to do things that were so much easier when the seller was in charge of their own postage arrangements.

I love it as it really clarifies and simplifies the shipping process.

I was away from eBay for a while and recently came back to it since new procedures were put in place.

I have since never received any complaints from my lovely buyers.

Thank you eBay for making my selling experience MUCH easier. 🙏

I was browsing yesterday and  actually found a seller with multiple items under the same category , all similar size and weight some where SD some where custom .  There is no logic or consistency to anything it really is a confusing mess . Ebay need to inspire confidence if it really wants people to sell !

But you have only sold 2 items in the last month ? Isn't it a bit early to make such a judgement ?

Whilst it may work for you, it doesn’t work for others and is a source of frustration. It also causes major headaches for multiple purchases and doesn’t combine properly, if at all. Evri is experiencing issues in collections from parcel shops and some sellers are having to visit multiple places in order to find somewhere that will accept their parcels. How is that simple? Its costing sellers in time.

I do agree with you but to be fair to E bay that is a problem that others are having, one of my friends had to visit 3 places to send her parcels on Monday and that was through V. (Sorry Rugby but that is a comparison).  What makes it funny to me is that she works 5 mins from the Post Office and is self employed so no difficulty getting to it!!!.  The problem is with the courier companies (and in E bays case their contribution is restricting postage to just EVRI and RM).

Something to think about !  For most on this thread we see this as a "battle" between Ebay customers and Ebay as a company . However like other controversial  " It platforms" that have hit the headlines recently there will be a significant middleman etc  who are involved  and perhaps have a bigger incentive to make this all "work" at regardless than Ebay themselves 

Having experienced such relationships 1st hand very much these 3rd parties will act primarily in their own interest and will at times suppress and hide genuine issues from their  sponsoring client  to their ultimate detriment. I have genuinely spent years of my career working reversing the impacts of such product delivery 

It is possible that while Ebay are not working in conjunction with their own competitors the solutions providers could well be and have told Ebay they will make their platform exactly like someone else.

So whilst we think some of provocateurs  may work for Ebay , it is more likely if that were the case they would  representing the project team  interests and that not necessarily a bad thing is they just have a different perspective 

I would say that most Ebay representatives are actually employed by 3rd party organisation which probably under pins  any 24/7 set ups .

As things stand I do thing Ebay probably have genuine concerns and for those who want a return to selling on a platform they can trust then this thread is very relevent 🙂

Think ebay needs to stop saying things like "Partner" when associating with other companies, they are not friends and there is no partnership in the true term of the word, ebay are merely customers of other companies, also over use of terms like the "ebay community" its a cop out, they need to realise that sellers are in fact customers of theres, the world has changed, its no longer wrapped in marshmallow its reality.

The really annoying thing is that SD has caused and still continues to cause problems for sellers.

It should never have been forced upon users while it was and still is a work in progress.

I still think it should be optional and it should be optional across all categories, not just random categories chosen by ebay.

I agree but i would say that it should never have been forced on sellers in the first place.  Also they put it on line last year as optional so should have had time to iron out many of the problems but they just ignored it all hoping the problems would go away.
