NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Also on the app version at least when you want to review your own received
feedback it doesn’t tell you what the item was, just the name of the buyer.
Also after 7 days EBay just adds a generic feedback comment.

It's basically just an acknowledgement of purchase. It's not essential as eBay puts a record on your My eBay page. Those sellers who like to leave feedback can still use eBay's messaging system.

It irritates because it's not really feedback but is called feedback.

It should be at least renamed to something accurate. eBay seems to like acronyms. How about Chore to Record Acknowledgement of Purchase? 🙂

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I think eBay's algorithms are deliberately suppressing demand if you don't "promote" your listing.

When I reluctantly (and hopefully briefly) returned to selling a week or so ago four items sold straight off.

But now nothing has sold for a week, views are down and I keep getting emails and messages asking me to promote my listings... make of that what you will!

Given that I'm making less per item anyway, because I reduce the price to allow for the extra fee the buyer has to pay, I'm not going to give eBay an extra 12% to "promote" the listing!

Definitely this. We did an experiment (we do promote more on one ID) and removed ALL promotions. Sales screeched to a halt. It was literally like putting the brakes on. 2 weeks later, we put them back on and sales are now back in motion. This experiment was on a business account where we pay out a lot in fees and a featured shop anyway and yet we still get spammed about promoting the shop, listings and offsite promotions.

I suspect for private sellers, not only do you need to use SD, you also need to promote your listings too.

The last item I brought I couldn't leave feedback, every time I tried it went to a review page

It matters not how much you sell your item for.

It's ebay's percentage 'take' that decides

if it will sell, or not.

How about  'Transaction With Automatic Thanks'   ?

Indeed. Our items range from £3 to over £5000, ebay’s take is more or less the same % wise

Isn't there some laws about misleading advertising in the UK? "No seller fees" is a fraud to sellers. Before current regime you calculated seller fees to the sale price and now the seller needs to calculate the listing price to include the buyer protection fee to get the same outcome.

Simple delivery can be switched off manually, but it's travesty that Ebay uses that a a default option. I tkoon my ebay listings down some time ago after sales didn't happen any longer.

there are various laws.

fortunately for eBay. The seller doesn’t actually pay the BPF so the statement No seller fees is accurate.

The seller doesn’t pay BPF but they do pay the promotion fee, which you need more and more these days to get your items seen so they sell. Not to mention ebay spams the seller to use promotions, particularly if you have items that haven’t sold quickly.

"BPF" is a transaction related fee which impacts the overall price  and that impacts buyer and seller alike . With seller fees those fees are transparent to the buyer . So in terms of promoting selling overall BPF is a dis-incentive to all parties .

Sooner or latter someone will define that Ebay are now acting as the buyers seller and the use of the term BPF is totally inappropriate as the Buyer already has sufficient protection as they are buying from a business , Ebay. In terms of the buyers statutory rights BPF is superfluous and Ebay  and others are misleading buyers as to it necessity and purpose .

Ebay was initially set-up as an auction for what are mainly 2nd hand used goods . In the main 2nd hand goods are sold as seen and with no warranty implied .  Raising the level of warranty will just kill any auction market which precisely which it is doing

My wife recently sold a pair of used suede boots. The buyer claimed they
weren’t genuine suede. So my wife offered the buyer a full refund. Yes the
boots were returned complete with the stickers still in place listing the
materials . Yup genuine suede upper, lining and part of the sole. The heel
being of synthetic material. Obviously the buyer either changed their mind
or found they didn’t fit. We are not a shop!

I've never promoted my listings and have sold fairly consistently, even with Ebay's various disincentives targeted at private sellers. From 20 items listed I sold 10 last month, so around half of them. My target is 25% this month.

I'm not convinced that users do need to promote in order to sell but it's entirely possible Ebay is able to favour some accounts over others. My prices tend to be quite low and collectables are still just about hanging on here, so those may the key things working in my favour?

Agree with you. I just haven't got the mental energy to start listing again (last sales were April, like you) with a high chance that things won't go smoothly, need to contact Ebay, etc, etc.

Remember when it used to be fun selling on here...

What I can't understand is that the BPF surcharges is added onto ALL transactions, even those that are being sent by custom delivery where eBay has no role in any protection for the buyer because it is the seller that will refund the buyer in total, and make the claim for loss against Royal Mail (or whatever carrier they used).
Of course I DO understand why - it's so eBay can fleece as much as possible from everyone!

The BPF is not the Money Back Guarantee though.

No, it's the Buyer Protection Fee, but when you use custom postage, eBay offer no protection at all as the seller will have to refund the buyer (or eBay will take the money from the seller).

I don't think I used the words 'Money Back Guarantee', and I don't think eBay do either.

Lookup what the buyer protection fee includes.

that would apply to simple delivery and customer delivery orders.

the protection you refer to is a benefit of using simple delivery (hence why in some cases simple delivery is more expensive)

'No, it's the Buyer Protection Fee, but when you use custom postage, eBay offer no protection at all .......'

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The words 'Buyer Protection Fee' mean nothing at all.

It's just a phrase thought up by the marketing dept to make buyers *think* they are getting something for their fee that they weren't getting before, so that they'll feel less miffed about having to pay it.

It is purely there to re-coup the money brought in by the old private-seller seller's fees.

Ebay had to dump the private sellers fees so they coud advertise themselves as 'free to sell' and compete with Vint*d etc.... that is all.

(Ebay could have really headed off a lot of trouble and misunderstandings, if they'd named it a bit more honestly. But honesty and the advertising industry don't get on with each other that well....)

But my posting was referring to when I use CUSTOM delivery, where BPF is still added by eBay, and offers nothing at all, as I said.
