NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Isn't it 28p? On the plus side, you were on the positive side of zero and don't owe Ebay. But it's understandable if you wanted to cancel the sale. I would.

You may have to say item is no longer available? Or definitely not at that ridiculous price.

10p for the envelope I didn’t mention sorry.

Looks like it’s going to be canceled, but the only options I got is:

1: Out of stock or damaged!

2: buyer asked to cancel!

3: issue with buyers address!

Oh the choices……

so I’m going to have to pick option 1 and obviously have to lie to the buyer witch I’m not that comfortable with.

ebay needs to pull its head out of its waste pipe and make simple delivery optional as some people like it, though I can’t understand why!

Please be aware that selecting option 1 'Out of stock' will leave you with a transaction defect and potentially negative feedback.  I think I would prefer to honour the sale.

What's interesting is the admission that High Value items SHOULD be sent with Special Delivery after all. SD is neither 'insured' nor is it 'secure' so it simply will NOT do. Which is all well in theory but how a seller is supposed to get custom postage options to appear (aside from categories or bulky stuff)?

I don't think eBay has actually stated anywhere that high value items should be sent with Special Delivery rather than Simple Delivery .  The person you responded to was just expressing their opinion.

Items sent with Simple Delivery are 'insured', for the full value of the item, but by eBay rather than the carrier.  I do agree though that Special Delivery is more secure as the item has to be specifically handed to someone at the recipients address and can't just be left in a safe place or with a neighbour.

No, I was responding to post number 8458, which was presumably copied and pasted direct from Ebay's own guidelines for Simple Delivery.

As stated there:

"Gold and silver items are often of high value, and Simple Delivery is not designed to cover the full value of such items in case of loss or damage."

and
"For valuable items.... it's recommended to use a tracked and insured shipping method, such as Royal Mail Special Delivery."

To be fair, it may be Ebay that seems to be making things up. The people commenting here are merely uncovering and responding to all the made up stuff. 😉

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I had a similar situation I had a buyer make a purchase but when I went to view the order I noticed eBay had changed my delivery method from Royal Mail 48 hr service to Simple delivery with the incorrect postage fee I must also mention they also changed my dispatch times Without any notification. In order to cancel the order it only gave me 3 options  so I  selected out of stock  But before I cancelled it I sent my buyer a email  letting her know my reason for cancelling it due to eBay removing my delivery option and the wrong postage on the item eBay gave me a transition defect  but at least my buyer was made aware of the reason for the cancellation Since that one purchase I have changed all of my ads to Collection in person only  No simple delivery no incorrect postage fees and no meddling with my dispatch times and I will not offer delivery's unless eBay changes simple delivery to be optional

'Out of stock' sounds like complete baloney. Why is the altogether more honest 'cancelled because Ebay sabotaged my listings' not available?

It reminds me of when you had a selling promo and ended your listings after 30 days. Ebay would insist that 'your item is no longer available'. What nonsense. Of course it is. I'm cancelling it because the low fees have ended and I'm waiting for another promo.

It's a very bad show by Ebay. If they hacked any of my custom postage listings this way without letting me know beforehand I'd almost certainly cancel them all right away.

I'm aware of which post you were responding to, and I also initially read that post as something that had been copied and pasted from somewhere, but that text does not appear anywhere in either of the Simple Delivery help pages or any of the announcements that I have seen.

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

It's difficult to keep up with all the SD guidance. I haven't seen much and know as little as you do, but then it's not well publicised either. Possibly because of all these apparent contradictions? Maybe there is NO SD guidance for high value items? SD seems to be quite a slippery thing and proving tricky to pin down. No wonder many sellers have pulled their listings and are waiting for things to settle and some stability to hopefully return.

I mentioned the silver coins, which DO have an option for custom postage but only on values up to £10. Thereafter it's all simple delivery. It looks like there's no need for high value items to be posted with Special Delivery after all? Go figure!

All I can say is the nobody really knowing anything isn't inspiring much confidence.

Slippery or what ??

I wondered where you got the valuation of £3 for a 100 year old silver sixpence when I paid £60 for a BU  one about 20 years ago and about £160 for a Gem Unc. example from 1831.  That is until I saw some of the rubbish being sold on ebay these days.

Surely the point is if it's Silver or Gold it is excluded under SD ?

If I sent a silver sixpence by SD and it was lost ebay wouldn't pay up whether it was over or under a tenner ?

As an aside.  Does anyone know if the seller who sent their £500 gold sovereign SD which was claimed to be INR was ever paid out by ebay ?

Looks like I’m going to have honor the sale then it seems.

simple delivery is just absolutely nonsensical for low value items, you’d probably have to lose every other item you send out to get any sniff of value from it.

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I had a rummage and couldn't find the guidance in any of the online SD guides, so maybe it IS our joint ineptitude that is to blame. It may or may not be out there?

But the cut and paste did look authentic, so it could have been an earlier version of T&Cs that may have been pulled last week? How could we possibly know? It certainly didn't look made up.

I don't understand why you'd think it was another poster's 'opinion'? SD notices usually aren't.

That's what I mean by 'slippery'. If SD can change the postage for an item between listing and sale, then those terms and conditions can change at ANY time, including between me posting an official link and you actually reading it. Goodness knows why everybody is being kept in the dark? Unless it's to ensure that Ebay never pays out?

SD is Simply Unreliable, safe to completely avoid using at present.

@ratecheap_comics

You could honour the sale and take the hit as a learning experience. Tho' if you explain to the buyer why I think you'd have a good case to get any defect resulting from Ebay's muddling removed. It's just Ebay making up the rules as it goes along. Nobody else does.

If you sent a silver sixpence for over £10 and under £20 it would be covered by a RM 2nd class stamp (cost 87p) but NOT by SD (with tracked postage at £2.72 bought from RM).

This is what SD does. A very much reduced service for a very much higher price!

If you are going to cancel, use 3, problem with buyers address. That way it will not be a black mark against you!

Don't cancel. Send it using your own service. Then claim back the 'simples delivery' cost that ebay charged you. Use this link; https://www.ebay.co.uk/claims/simple-delivery/refund/seller

Nice try but Ebay won't refund unless you send your item with a tracked service. RM tracked 48 for large letters starts at £2.70. The saving is just 2p!

Maybe. Well I can get away with that as business mail through royal mail comes with confirmation of delivery for 2nd class mail.

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

The problem with the not so 'simple delivery' is that it doesn't do anything for combined purchases and even though i've stated in listings that I should be contacted first before purchasing multiple items so as to be able to combine them into a single listing with just the one cost of shipping, buyers are still buying and then they get hit with a postage charge for each item.

On a plus, you do get refunded the cost of any label that isn't used... in 30 days or so!

That's money sitting in an account earning interest for somebody!

If you send a LARGE LETTER up to 100gms up to 2nd class it costs £1.55
That’s including cover up to £20 for damage or loss Why should you have to
pay £2.70 for the same thing with SD?? If your item is only worth £10.00??
And why all this ‘TRACKED’ nonsense for low cost items. I sent a large
letter 48 hour tracked a couple of months ago It took 1 month to get there
and guess what RM say “You aren’t covered compensation wise, for late
delivery” Why advertise a 48 hour delivery if it doesn’t mean anything??
