AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

As I said many a time
Cant get the staff (or won’t)
Extremely basic things are not happening
And they’re taking a million years to fix problems
problems entirely of their own making so 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️
I’ll big them up when it’s working
I’ll criticise when it’s not and being left to linger
never mind there’s workarounds to everything and they can’t control that

I agree totally.
I'll gladly become a advocate of this platform again when their actions warrant it.
However if their actions lead to negative things needing to be said, so be it.
One saying that springs to mind is "don't bite the hand that feeds you".

But what I am saying is your major gripe with Ebay has very little to do with SD or its ramifications .
As said SD is not just a simple to change to the delivery process it is a fundamental change to the Buyer seller relationship in terms of on-line auctions , which is Ebay's traditional core business . It is by no means simple despite Ebay's "marketing" of SD as a product . Whilst it is not impossible to adapt to the changes , Ebay have done diddly squat ( precisely the opposite) to encourage me as a long term seller and buyer to embrace it , which is why I still read and post on this thread . In reality their response has been reprehensible to a core long term customer base .
Unlike other market places Ebay is still the no 1 in terms of on line auctions for non business sellers , but that USP is now under threat because of Ebay's current business vision and approach
I have no problem with Ebay encompassing the lower end retail market places and my own recent experience says they are creating an edge in certain markets .
Ebay are a business and opinion is very much of their forward planning and whilst the management approach to SD complaints has been obtuse and evasive to say the least they are not stupid enough to dismiss it out of hand. Its quit clear given Ebay recent expensive marketing campaign they want to attract more private sellers but that can't be achieved by alienating the existing private sellers . Something is going to break and I currently I am spectator to that process . 🙂

I have always listed by items over the past couple of years using Royal Mail 48 hour tracked. This way I felt I had control over the entire process. I recently listed a Sparco Bloomington jacket for £30 including postage(i.e. medium parcel Royal Mail 48 hour tracked) using the recently introduced custom settings. After a week or so I decided to reduce the price to £25 following the eBay settings. It changed to simple delivery! Now it says standard tracked or the buyer can select express tracked for £5.70! I had not chosen this and am I going to have to cover the £5.70 plus associated costs of packaging and getting it to a Post Office or extra to get it collected? EBay are not interested.

Right
but it’s not feeding us with no views no sales 🤣even doing as we’re told filling in a zillion Specifics and promoting etc etc changes nothing
Then again I guess you mean they shouldn’t bite the hand
got it 🙄🤣

I think if buyer choses express delivery they have to pay for it when you put free postage
Someone will correct me if I’m wrong

I absolutely congratulate sellers who are trying to make the best of such a bad situation.
I stopped selling 3 months ago so that I could see for myself what the implications of SD would be.
It was a mess when it launched 3 months ago and its still a mess now.
On top of all the other money making things that this platform has introduced this year there isn't any incentive for me to sell and buy like I did for so many years.
Now I'm just a spectator who is watching to see what happens next and me and only me will decide when and if to leave this platform.

Lol. I did mean the 2nd part of what you said.
In its heyday this platform made a lot of money from sellers who also brought things here. I was one of them.
Now with so many discontented sellers and buyers they are losing so many users in big numbers.

Just checked and yes, if you offer free delivery and buyer wants express they pay for it

I don’t know the stats but only one thing matters to me
can you sell your stuff on here easily , if not I’m wasting my time
The answer is NO
sales are excruciatingly sporadic
then again I’ve not being keeping up with the dos and donts
ie list every day
use all the proper words in title
offer free postage returns and all that jazz
so maybe I should make a little bit more effort here but I still think the algorithms whatever have taken control of visibility and whether your items called the right thing or you’ve not included free postage eg why can’t eBay give 100% visibility to 100 % of its sellers
🤷🏼♀️
What do they gain by not doing so
12-07-2025 9:58 PM
Stretchy baby doll dress and chain 😱
Did yeah buy it 🤔
12-07-2025 9:58 PM
All you said is so true.
Don't get me started on the pay to promote your listing farce.
So if 250 sellers did that you'd be somewhere amongst the 250.
But this platform would end up gaining from all 250 sellers. Yet another money making farce.
12-07-2025 10:01 PM
lol it was just a dress freepost that I found
had to heavily redact the details because last time I posted a random someone’s listing to help someone in here regarding postage or some other basic stuff I I got warned for naming and shamin 🤷🏼♀️

I agree. For over 20 years Ive had ebay as my main source of income as a business. It worked well for my family’s lifestyle. Until this year. This week we have launched a website which has been 3 years in the making, by complete beginners with no prior knowledge and from scratch ie had to learn coding (2 man band so to speak). A large part of that time has been the testing and bug fixing. It was only launched once we were absolutely sure of it functioning as required. The testing we did was based on our learning experience of ebays lack of testing and a glitching site. Ebay taught us how NOT to do something.

I’ve promoted about half a dozen things in last month or two
every single time it started as 1 view and remained as 1 view
mind you eBay say you get 25% more views
so 25% of 1 view is still 1 view
maths not my strong point but I bet its rubbish lol
12-07-2025 10:09 PM
I absolutely agree with what you said about this platform teaching a lot of people how not to do something.

It's such a annoying shame that sellers need to pay even more out just to try and get their listing seen.
This platform has so much to answer for because of what it's become.

Im here on a business ID but I started out as a private seller. I changed to a business seller when I started buying to sell and then opened another account, a private one. My private selling was fun (I find the business one a chore sometimes coz its work) and those funds were used for fun stuff, buying ‘fripperies’ from other sellers, putting funds into a holiday pot, that kind of thing. Private selling is no longer fun and Im doing very little of it due to all the changes.
12-07-2025 10:19 PM
I wouldn’t mind paying to get it seen, I have no fees now so it’s like the old paying fees for a sale, but it’s not shown lol you don’t get a sale or a view with promotion whatever percentage you opt for
I don’t believe them
12-07-2025 10:22 PM
I've always been a private seller who used to buy a lot from other private sellers and from some really good business sellers.
Since I stopped selling as a private seller because it was no longer fun my interest here now is to spectate to see just how bad it gets here.
