NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

I agree with you too, I have been selling on EBay for years and maybe it’s time to go, I get a lot of timewasters who CANNOT even read the description and do not understand NO OFFERS

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I agree but before BPF I would sell my item for £10 and pay ebay £1.35 in fees.  The buyer paid £10 and was none the wiser.

Now, as I understand it, I sell my item for £10 but at checkout the buyer is told that the £10 they pay includes £x.xx BPF and for the first time they are made aware of the fee element.  It LOOKS like an extra, even if I've reduced my price to mitigate it.  If I hadn't the price shown to them would be £11. 35 (or there abouts)

Some buyers understand what is being done, but a lot of those who don't are balking at the "price increase".

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Well. It’s game over for moi. I’ve finally been forced into stupid delivery.

And a cd auto relisted and it’s messed up the postage. That I set correctly manually ages ago.

Now it’s estimating a cd weighs up to 1kg. Stupid delivery indeed. When will eBay realize I don’t want to use SD. I’ve been managing very well on my own these past five years. A few bumps here and there but nonetheless. I’ve been fine on my own. Just me myself and I handling everything.

I prefer to put the effort in rather than let a machine do all the work for me and mess everything up.

I am furious that I’ve got to wait another hour until the pause listing takes effect. Why can’t I start it right now like I want to. Eh?

Well, I’m sticking around for the drama and that’s about it really.

Hopfully I’ll have a future here but for now I’m stuck. Probably go someplace else to sell but I don’t know what I want to do now.

To wrap it up EBay are well I can’t say the word here but it rhymes with the word bunt. With an s added on the end.

The same half-baked effort as the last time I used their 'middle-man' postal service several years ago.

Todays experience; sold my old computer CPU for about half of what it's worth. Only option is SD. I walk ten minutes to the Post Office , the assistant weighs it and says he can't send it as Ebay have classed it as a Large Letter whereas it's a Small Parcel. Thinking on my feet I ask if I can pay the difference and I'm told No I can't do that. Ten minutes walk back and now I have to contact Ebay to try and sort this out. Assuming I can I'll then have another ten minutes walk there and back.

This isn't the way to encourage people to sell ?

Part of the problem is most sellers do not seem to have reduced their prices to accommodate the buyer tax (and to offset the expensive postage on SD LL items if applicable). Worse if they set their prices based on a quick search of recently sold items they might be using recent sale prices that already include buyer tax in their basic item price.

It's simply better value to buy many items elsewhere now and it's so easy for buyers to migrate to another site. There's not much keeping buyers here apart from habits which are gradually getting broken. I have limited sympathy as Ebay only have themselves to blame for their continuing failure and inattentiveness.

It is according to ebay.

The more confusing, complicated, time consuming, illogical and down-right annoying their grossly over managed  site becomes, the better the 'ebay experience' is.

I’ve contacted customer service to send my thoughts on SD to the highers.
Maybe if we all did that in protest, maybe eventually they’d listen to us peasents down below doing all the labour.

The problem I have, amongst others, is that the low value DVDs that I would have sold for £2 plus £2 Royal Mail large letter postage (total £4) now cost £2.80 (including the 80p buyers' protection racket) and eBay force me to pay for Tracked delivery at £2.72 - total £5.52, that's an extra charge of £1.52. For me to "accommodate" the £1.52 eBay profit, I'd have to sell by DVD for about 50p. It's not going to happen!

Update - tried this with the chatbot which was utterly useless. Used the Ebay call back option and was told that I have to cancel the order, relist the item with the increased postage and hope the buyer is still interested. I said that relisting the item BIN now might mean that someone else bought and was told I would have to tell the buyer when I listed it. I pointed out that it was Ebays fault since on the listing they could see it was in a box but I was told it was my fault for not specifying the dimensions when I listed it.

Remember when paypal was ditched and ebay reduced the processing fee by a miserly 0.1% ?  It became obvious then that many private sellers didn't know that they were paying anything to paypal, couldn't work out how much they were paying in fees and actually thought that they were paying more under ebay's MP.

I think one reason many have not reduced their prices to reflect their move to "Free" to Sell" is because they don't know how.  Somewhere I relate my last attempt at selling here and I couldn't work out what price I needed to charge that would get me £750 if I took off the BPF and couldn't find any of the helpful 'cheat-sheets' others had added to threads.

I'm sure many others (in the end) myself included decided they couldn't care less whether they adjusted prices for either BPF or the Silly Delivery charges that were (still are?) changing daily on the grounds that as they rarely got any sales anyway ebay adding to their costs wouldn't make much difference, sales would still most of the time be non-existent.

I agree totally with your second paragraph, IMO ebay is busily sawing through the branch that it's sitting on, just and hasn't heard the creaking yet.

Yup it's basically uneconomic so buyers and sellers will use other sites.

Ebay might not want the small sales but if users migrate away they will lose the bigger sales too.

The latest installment is that I've had to cancel the order and it only gives me 3 reasons to cancel , none of which are correct so I chose the nearest one ( Problem with buyers address). I have a couple of computer parts still selling but in future I'll probably just use Ebay to buy.

They will find themselves just a distributor of cheap chinese made merchandise, which they already have a solid start on, instead of a marketplace for ordinary people to sell items they no longer want which ebay was created for.

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Now I am going to be really honest. Here goes nothing.

I have ADHD and Autism which I hate to play on, since I just try and muck in with everyone else. I don’t want special treatment, that’s what I’m saying, and while at the age of 28 with the help of very supportive parents. I am able to live independently and manage my life my way, I will admit I do find change hard. But the thing is, were SD to be forever optional. I might have given it a go and adapted.

The main point of my protest here isn’t directly at SD. It more at EBay for making it mandatory and not having the decency to tell me when.

Look, I knew eventually I’d be forced into it. But I at least expected an email to tell me they had reached my account on their to be enrolled list, just to give me a heads up to get my hit with an s at the beginning to allow myself time to prepare for it, but no they don’t have any decency they just slap it on without any form of good form nor grace and now I’m left to deal with it.
I have tried to ready myself but how can one when the information out there is so confusing and messed up. It’s a right shambles and eBay should hang their heads in shame.
So no I’m not selling indefinitely out of protest not for SD as a whole but for making it mandatory and dictator like leadership and treating us like we are the bad guy and giving the buyers a bad experience too with the extortionate prices. It’s wrong on all angles and both us sellers and the buyers will and are suffering for just a stupid decision that was made by quel surprise fat cats with their feet up on the table dictating the rap with a c out of things.

Alas, for my own mental health I might just pack up and go. I’ve said my piece with the CS team and got them to send my love, sarcasm obviously, to the lords above and see where we go from here.

The workaround that I have found, when creating a listing, is to enter an approximate selling price, then click into another box, then above the selling price box it states what the buyers will pay extra. You can then keep revising the selling price, and clocking out, until you get the balance that you're looking for.

This link enables you to set the price you want the buyer to pay, and therefore what the item price should be:

https://ebaybuyerprotectionfeecalculator.uk/

With the following link, you can also set what price you want to get, and it will tell you what the buyer will see:

Just in the process of listing a CD, for postage I've got simple delivery, with up to 1KG weight, and custom delivery but only the option of upto 100g weight. I know the weight is over 100g, but 1kg is overkill.

So they are still changing things but they still don't get it. 🤷🙄🤦
