AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

RM track all the online labels anyway they just don't show the journey through the mail centres unless you pay for tracking to see the information not that it's much use unless the item goes missing in which case RM look at the hidden tracking anyway.
There is no need to track an online large letter item as the sender should get proof of postage and everyone should be able to see delivery confirmation assuming the postie bothers to scan it.
Ebay are wasting other people's money and making things less likey to sell as the postage is uneconomic.

and that is one of the main reasons i am so against SD. Most of my items are low value and i only ever used tracked for the more expensive items (£20+). I used the certificate of tracking and it worked for me every time, never had a non delivery but if that had happened i would have just refunded and taken the loss. It is only my family stuff so if it happened it happened, no major disaster. Why should i pay extra for tracking when i do not need or want it?

Thats what happens when a company forcibly becomes its own shipping broker and resells other shippers products for there and there alone benefit.

I agree with all the points in this thread. With custom postage they say that my item will not be covered by insurance but charge the same insurance fee anyway? how can ebay have it both ways? how does that work?

@nursediesel wrote:Agreed. Mercari, Ebid and others must be cracking the champagne. It is unbelievable that a company who had 6.5 Billion Dollars in working capital just 2 years ago has free fallen to 1.5 Billion as of last year. If that isnt a trainwreck, I dont know what is. They then come up with the idea of monopolizing shipping, freezing sellers funds and removing formal complaint avenues. I think ebay right now is a rudderless ship without a captain who hires lawyers and accountants over support and programmers. I have a feeling ebay will be a case study for future business classes on what not to do when you are a well branded company in trouble.
Mercari seems to have everything priced in dollars. Can it be a viable alternative in the UK?
I agree others can.

No, Mercari has shut down in the UK which they might want to rethink after the ebay backlash here. I think they are celebrating anything that impacts ebay in the negative as they are direct competitors and you cant get much more negative than what is happening here in the UK.

Ebay is Finished, they are sending Coupons to buyers. How sad is that. Sales have fallen no one wants to buy on ebay. This ship is sinking and sinking fast. All share holders should pull out. All changes are negative. Not helping sellers or buyers

I think you mean sunk and we are are clinging to the flotsam and jetsam

Yeah, Coupons are the life jackets for buyers to hold on to. Ebay is making all the worse changes and the EbaY employees don’t know whats coming next. Company is loosing profits left right and center.

Well, I have joined the club. No option for advanced postage anymore, regardless the price.😠
I was hoping that ebay did listen and left simpleton delivery optional, but obviously (d)effective manager (or whoever is responsible for this farce) is so want its bonus.

The decision was made by automation ?
is that supposed to mean, we’re sorry it’s not our fault ?
or does it mean automation is always right?
either way it’s human beings IN CHARGE of it so it’s somebody’s fault not a piece of metal
There must be something somewhere in t and cs that says thou shalst not misrepresent x y z

That's what my husband is always saying when pople need a scapegoat, "a computer can only be as good as the person putting the information in to it ".
15-06-2025 10:01 PM
Precisely
Now the listing pages have been changed again on my iPad using the app
you now have to go through a screen for every type of entry
one screen for title and category then you have to click done
Next screen for specifics then have to click done
next screen price have to click done to move on
next screen postage etc
*bleep*
it’s like they’re trying to hold your hand , it’s ok I know what to put and where before going to the net part lol
Nett they’ll be telling you what to write when and how
sorry that was an off topic rant
didnt know where to put it
so quiet around here lately
wonder why that is

Its because they are all tracked. LL 100g via RM is £2.70
But an item sent as large letter up to £20 is already covered for compensation with a proof of posting when you pay £1.55, so you don't need to pay extra.
15-06-2025 11:12 PM
Yeah understand your point but only mentioned it because the poster I was replying to was saying 2.70 is over the top which it is if someone is used to posting LLs 2nd class, but the new system is based around tracking and 2.70 is the same price as using RM or SD, ebay hasn't inflated the price.
Be interesting to find a work around for it though as I'm sure it would help some people.
15-06-2025 11:15 PM
ebay is picking up on workarounds and closing the loopholes.
15-06-2025 11:17 PM - edited 15-06-2025 11:17 PM
They can’t close them for ALLOWED custom delivery items
ie those ones that need a workaround or two to get to at the moment because they haven’t got their act together YET
🙄🙄🙄

I've just found out the hard way about "Simple Delivery". I had already pre-purchased my own Royal Mail collections for tomorrow AS I HAVE ALWAYS DONE and was stumped trying to add the Tracking information to my items like I always have done before.
eBay support have explained that I have to generate dispatch labels before I can add my custom Tracking. So I've just lost the delivery money. Amazing.
I found this thread as a consequence and I had never even heard of Ebid before. I guess I'll go sign up there now.

Ebid looks pretty bad actually, but Vinted have expanded beyond clothes and Facebook Marketplace seems to be quite lively. I am going to use those now.

Poshmark were great but they also shut down in uk last year. Try vinted
