AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Ahh Touche!

Hi, I'm not missing the point, I'm inventing a new system that works! Seller gives buyer choice of labels that suit item, buyer choses 1st, 2nd, tracked, whatever you tell them will work for that item and they buy it. You send it. Very simple.

Ah! So it's an invention. I missed that. It's not what happens now. What happens now is a lottery as to whether the buyer is able to (and does) choose a suitable option for postage and whether the seller can do likewise.

As a buyer if i selected EVRI i know i would never get my parcel as years of experience has proven, he simply will not deliver to anywhere that is off the main roads. No amount of contact with EVRI (when you can actually manage to do so) has changed that. We are not the only ones in our area with the problem. I refuse on principle to have to collect from some other address, i pay for delivery not to have to go out someone and collect the damn item. Also to be noted that we never buy from anyone using the firm but unfortunately too many people say RM (or another courier) and then go cheap and go EVRI. Well, their loss because i have always got a refund and they have lost the sale and possibly their item and postage.

not half as simple as stating 2nd RM and taking it to the post office and paying yourself from what the buyer has sent you!

"According to the latest data from Ofcom's annual Post Monitoring Report, Evri has been identified as the worst-performing parcel delivery company in Britain, with a customer satisfaction rate of just 32%. This marks the fourth consecutive year that Evri has held this position."
Thats from last Oct but shows you the state of Evri and that you cant just change your name and throw a little money at it to make it competitive. My opinion of course.

Yeah buyers are getting wise to this and I've had a few recently asking me via message or adding a note to the order saying something like 'please use RM as per listing' which of course I would. After 24 years I am still waiting for my first buyer asking me to use Hermes/Evri.

You do wonder why DHL, who I think have a reasonably good name in the courier business, would even want to merge with Evri, AND use the Evri name. Unbelievable!

I don't doubt this. Our local Evri delivery person is just fantastic, but when he went on holiday for three weeks, EVRI did not arrange a replacement and simply let his deliveries pile up. On his return he had to clear the backlog working extremely long hours to a lot of disgruntled customers.

I was referring to the Hermes rebrand but you are 101% correct also. I could see taking majority and attempting the fix of Evris extensive list of issues but doing it while still using the Evri name anywhere seems suicidal, especially when DHL is a pretty strong brand name.

I think they are using the Evri name in the UK because if it was the other way round and Evri became DHL in the UK it would be seen as too hostile to the Royal Mail given DHL.'s Deutsche Post ownership .
My opinion is Evri has spent the last couple of years focussing on retail delivery . In my experience in terms of Ebay private sales RM had become the most popular choice with perhaps Yodel overtaking EVRI . DHL will give Evri the opportunity to become a "proper" postal service
I believe if Ebay stick with SD ( Ebay delivery) then within the next year all Ebay parcels that are not exceptions will be handled by Evri/DHL and RM will be frozen out , providing they post to all UK destinations and collect from private addresses and perhaps that has always been the plan with Ebay .

Also because DHL wouldn't be great branding either. For many years they've been known as Drop it, Hide it, Lose it.
I've had very few interactions with them myself. I still recall when Dell sent me some replacement memory sticks under warranty and someone in DHL tore the parcel open, evidently decided it wasn't worth stealing, and left it with next door, presumably to evade any awkward questions. So Drop it, Hide it, Lose it is certainly what I think of them. Or Steal it, Hide it, Infuriate me, Thieve it.
Take a look at Trustpilot reviews of DHL.

That would work! Has anyone thought of that? I think we've got a new plan!

What matters here in the UK is Ofcom's annual Post Monitoring Report as most Trustpilot reviews are made when someone is angry and cant really be used as a judge for true performance. DHL is no where close to the complete shambles that is Evri!

Then don't use it. I post my own stuff.

I wish I could, as could most on here. What do you select in the postage option that stops eBay selecting for you?
07-06-2025 11:27 AM
Click on advanced postage. I do, It is then as it always was, although you have to select advanced on every listing.
07-06-2025 11:40 AM
It is a phased removal per eBay and it was not removed all at once for everyone. You are a lucky one that still has that option but it will be removed as the phaseout continues. My advanced option disappeared about 4 or 5 days ago.
07-06-2025 11:46 AM
In the last couple of days they've removed the option to select Advanced Postage; I can't even go into listings currently live to revise them without it forcing me to accept Simple Postage. How can they justify charging more via RM through their simple system than what I can and have been getting directly from RM all these years? It's criminal. I have about 60 listings left on eBay as things stand; I won't be revising them and I won't be listing anything else on the site once the items in my current listings have sold.
There have been plenty of changes in the past I wasn't happy about but just took it on the chin. This is different. I think this is just the last straw coming hot on the heels of the so-called 'no fees' change (which clearly isn't the case as sellers end up adjusting prices down for buyers). So after 25 years I will be waving goodbye to eBay at some point in the coming weeks.
07-06-2025 11:49 AM
Unfortunately the option to select advanced postage was removed for me at some point in the last couple of days; I now can't even go into my current live listings (on advanced delivery) to revise them without being force to accept simple delivery. As above: I will simply not revise any of my current listings nor list anything new.
