NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

@akemp1
It's so much more complicated with ebay-economics because of the knock on impact of a sale not happening to other transactions.

I think that I actually made that point but also, taxation is far more complicated than raising or lowering a flat tax rate. The main point is that if you charge too much for a product or service (or make things difficult for customers - essentially, eBay's sellers are its customers, not the buyers), you will not make as much money as one might hope - eBay is presumably leaning heavily on the belief that it has a quasi-monopoly and can do as it likes but there are alternatives and market forces will hopefully prevail.

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

eBay appears to be losing market share, especially in international markets. While it still holds a significant position in the US, Statista reports that Amazon is the most popular online marketplace in the UK, with eBay in second place. Additionally, some sellers are reporting a decline in sales and traffic on eBay, with some suggesting that eBay UK Community and eBay UK Community changes are affecting sales.

Here's a more detailed look at the factors contributing to this:
  • Increased Competition:
Platforms like Etsy, Vinted, and TikTok Shop are gaining traction and attracting buyers, particularly for specific niches.

  • Revenue Trends:
A report from Yaguara.co indicates that eBay's revenue may fall slightly below 2023's figures, although the exact numbers for 2025 are not yet available.

  • Seller Concerns:
Some sellers are reporting a decline in sales and traffic, even with promoted listings, and are concerned about the impact of recent changes on the platform.

  • Market Share in US:
While eBay holds a 3% share of the US e-commerce market, which is above some major retailers, it still faces competition from giants like Amazon.

  • International Challenges:
Ebay is losing traction in international markets, where competitors like AliExpress have taken over many product niches.

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

have never understood how some people claim it is 'simpler'.  I got the paid notification, wrote a label out by hand and took it to the post office!   E bay want me to print a label off, stick it on the parcel and take it to the post office!   Difference for me is that i prefer to give my hard earned money to the post office and not e bay!  I do have  a printer but no guarantee that it will work and i do not have a smart phone.

to be honest (and why should i not be), the reason i have not been buying is simply because i have not been spending anywhere near the sort of time i used to on e bay.  I would come on frequently during the day to check on sales etc, then to the forum and then a browse on the lookout for potential buys.  Obviously the less time i call on here to check the forum the less times i would be browsing.

not if you think you are the recipient of the 'poor treatment of sellers'!  I sell on here not on Amazon so i am not particularly bothered how they behave, i am bothered about how e bay behaves!

i agree with you but i must point out that your last comment is incorrect, you can deselect EVRI and just have RM, although you have to pay more for that privilege! (there's a surprise..)   Also of course e bay also have that little get out clause that they can over ride your decision if they want to.

For me simple was putting comics into a stiffened envelope, writing the
customers address on it and taking it to the post office. I will never use
Simple Delivery.

Ah, well I have a tip for you, though I have to add I'd be sorry to see your contributions disappear.  There are ways of getting yourself blocked from the forums.  Including, for the more techie minded, setting up rules in your router so you can only visit this web domain between certain hours.

Do you really browse and make impulse buys?  I can't imagine doing that, it would make mincemeat of my bank account.

But you can't deselect RM in favour of EVRI even whe RM will not accept you package but Evri will. eBay still insists on creating a RM label, so buyer pays for postage for an item I cannot send and it's ME that gets negative feedback. Go figure!

You can deselect either Evri or Royal Mail, but not both.

Which is why I said "Why should I have to pay more going through the eBay system and being forced to offer Evri?" So my last comment was not incorrect - if I don't offer Evri as a postage option, I have to pay more than the normal postage rate, and as you say eBay can still override my choice anyway.

Quite simply I am NOT prepared to accept that situation which is why I only list on eBay items that are under 100g and fit into a letter that I can post with an 87p stamp on and obtain a proof of posting. Anything larger, i.e. a large letter, or over  £10, or a small parcel, is listed for sale elsewhere.

I do, or rather did, because the sorts of collectables that I am interested in might just occasionally show up, or might never show up. They are vintage items which in some cases may or may not even exist, or somebody might just put one up for sale that I haven't got. Yes, most of my purchases were impulse buys, as I know what I'm looking for only when I see it.

definitely used to enjoy browsing for clothes, sometimes i would find a bargain that i could not resist!  As i said though i have not actually been browsing for the past week or so.   I have actually been sanctioned for the odd day or two before now, but only since this farce of SD started!

Can I ask why you have 4 late defects now, what causes it?

Because I had to use tracking where I wouldn’t normally and due to bank holidays, RM delivered late (or rather ebays EDD were out of whack) and I got ‘courier confirmed late delivery’. If Id sent like I usually do, that wouldn’t have happened. Plus for some weird reason, tracked mail took 5 days to arrive when items I sent by 2nd class on this ID on the same day as these tracked items, arrived next day or the day after.

Traffic down in the UK, but probably doesn’t affect the big picture much.

Bearing in mind that May is one day longer than April, these figures show an almost 10% drop in traffic in only one month, which is catastrophic. It's the first significant drop, not explainable by shorter months, Christmas, etc., for some considerable time.

It will be interesting to see what, if anything, they do to attempt to arrest this slide.

Thank you for the reply, i really feel being unable to use your own Postal Service creates that disconnect with the Buyer and is going to lead to alot more Negative Feedback(due to no fault of the Seller)

10% is alot....and makes me wonder what will happen this next month, as alot of people are still selling just until SD becomes mandatory, and then will stop..
