AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Not sure if my postage options have been updated.

Here is the main part of the email -
"The information given by Ebay is unfortunately incorrect.
When you buy a label the format and weight must be correct, if the item is heavier or larger than the postage paid, the recipient would receive a notification that the sender has underpaid the postage and would need to pay additional postage plus an admin fee.
Ebay Approached Royal Mail to buy labels from us to see to their customers any refunds for labels that were are not unable to be used should be taken up directly to Ebay"
I've not used SD so not sure if people are being charged? Maybe from the wording re labels Ebay are charged the difference and fee as they are the label buyer?

Thanks for coming back. I didn't think you would.
I have to say I find it difficult to believe the wording is genuine, if it was written any time after around mid-March, when procedures were less widely known. The text you quote is so inaccurate that whoever wrote it should be dismissed immediately.
Any member of staff receiving such a query would check the facts before replying; and if any individual post office was still refusing parcels or charging extra, eBay would have been informed long ago, and action would have been taken to correct the situation.
There is no excuse to be so out of touch, and plainly wrong, after all this time, and I'm sure his/her bosses would be absolutely horrified.
Still, it's what the readers of this thread want to see, and will no doubt provoke a good few comments, depending on who does or does not believe it to be genuine.

Not sure what you mean by genuine? It was the email I received back from RM this past week after I queried weeks ago on the RM contact us page. I have to agree the English is pretty poor!!

I was in the process of re starting my shop. Not going to bother as it's a complete waste of time. I'm cancelling the subscription today and am going to end with private listing until they get this mess sorted. I hope millions follow suit as the more of who do this the better. Glad I have read this as I've been having miss givings about the shop since I re started it.

I wasn't referring to ebayers who were asking the questions 😎

People who have never worked for large corporations often think that they are staffed by well educated and well informed personnel. Unfortunately this is not the case. In my career in insurance and banking, I have seen countless letters sent out with incorrect information. And the writers, who are at management level, (as no ordinary employee is allowed to write their own letters as they have to be vetted by 'compliance') are often promoted 'out of harm's way' or given a sideways move with a made up title rather than sacked. When I worked for an insurance company I approached a well known insurance giant to tell them they needed to stop sending letters out that said "we should of been informed" rather than we should 'have'. It took them 3 months to change it. Incompetence at all levels is the general state of play in the corporate world. So I would consider that it's perfectly possible that a badly worded, grammatically incorrect letter with incorrect information is indeed genuine!

"I have seen countless letters sent out with incorrect information."
Last year my bank sent me a ISA application form with out of date information on it. It still said that you couldn't have more than one ISA in the tax year, but the rules had changed in the 2024 budget and you could now have multiple ISAs. I was supposed to sign the form agreeing that I wouldn't have more than one ISA in the tax year, which I wasn't prepared to do. I spoke to several people about it on the phone, all of whom told me complete nonsense. I ended up making a complaint, which was sort-of worth it in the end because I got some compensation for all the trouble I'd had to go to.
I thought it was staggeringly incompetent that (a) the incorrect form hadn't been spotted by a knowledgeable senior; and (b) that the call assistants hadn't had their script revised in accordance with the new rules.

When things happen to other people and they report them as having happened my inclination is to believe them. It's a mad world and that includes Ebay.
On that basis you can't dismiss them outright just because the exact same thing has not yet happened to you.

"Ebay Approached Royal Mail to buy labels from us to see to their customers any refunds for labels that were are not unable to be used should be taken up directly to Ebay"
Does that sentence make any sense whatsoever -
'eBay approached Royal Mail to buy labels';
'to see to their customers any refunds';
'for labels that were are not unable to be used'
They can't even construct a sentence in clear understandable English - it's no wonder eBay is in such a mess and don't know what they're doing!

When I've contacted Royal Mail about technical issues before they've generally emailed back and you can then reply and get the same person. If this has happened in your case I wonder if you could reply and ask them specifically about the procedure for 'Marketplace Seller' labels. Personally I've been told two different things in a Post Office when I've asked about Ebay Labels and then specifically about Marketplace Seller labels so maybe something similar is happening here.
I may have missed something, but I think at this point the understanding was that Marketplace Seller labels should not have a size / weight printed on them or visible to Post Office staff on a scan who should accept it as long as it is within Royal Mail's maximum dimensions (with the caveat that it seems that there was at least one case where a label printed from a QR code did have a size / weight printed on it)
I had assumed that as it travels through the system Royal Mail would be able to see the size / weight band internally and link it back to the specific ebay package. Then if the size / weight was insufficient they would charge ebay, ebay would check if the size / weight band was ai determined and if so cover the cost - if not they would charge the seller.

We read the Daily Telegraph which used to be very grammatically correct. No more, my husband is always complaining about spelling and wrong names etc, "doesn't anyone proof read anymore " is almost a daily occurrence.

First post so forgive me if this has already been covered ad infinitum.
I put my listings on ‘time away’ on April 6th but having still not been moved over to SD I decided to re-list ten of the more desirable items yesterday in an attempt to quickly make some sales.
Sold one item and took it to the post office as usual. I know the staff there quite well so I asked whether they knew about eBay’s new postage policy and was met with blank expressions. When I explained it to them the reaction I got was “Oh, you mean like V****d?” so I said yes and explained that eBay were essentially copying their model.
They had no idea. I assume they must take SD items on the basis they have “Marketplace” written on the label but they weren’t aware of any changes specific to eBay.
For what it’s worth I’ve had a look at this thread and am aware I’ll be called a liar (or at least it’ll be intimated) by some but this was my experience and while the transaction went through smoothly and I was able to post the item in the usual way it is a little concerning that some post office staff aren’t yet up to speed on these changes. And if it happened here it must be happening elsewhere.

I'm with you on this one, they have gone too far this time.
I say vote with your feet, and walk away.

I actually had a sold item to post Saturday 17th May, and asked the post lady what she knew about the ebay/RM marketplace deal that if someone brought in a parcel that weighed more than postage label, that she had to accept it! She knew nothing about it and said there would be a surcharge when delivered. I said no, RM have agreed to just deliver it. She said it must be a scam. I told her no it was from Ebay/RM. I said all post offices have been told this info in their horizon/correspondence, she said she reads her emails everyday and she hasn't got it!
Now I had decided not to repeat it because I know I will be ridiculed, told I'm lying by some, but my husband was with me and heard every word.

I think the idea is that the simple delivery labels should not have a weight / size printed on them and will just have 'Marketplace Seller' printed on them in the bottom right. So the Post Office staff should not see any weight / size to dispute - that is the theory at least!
