NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I thought i had seen somewhere, a while ago when this first came up, that they had tried it in the US and it had fallen flat on its face and they had to rescind it?

This is what I came across .No, eBay has not tried "Simple Delivery" in the USA. The Simple Delivery feature is a specific initiative for private sellers in the UK, not a general eBay shipping option for all regions. The UK rollout requires private sellers to use Simple Delivery for eligible listings after April 15, 2025. In the USA, sellers typically have a wider range of shipping options, including the option to use a QR code for USPS delivery, but not both QR codes and printable labels simultaneously.

'Most companies test things with a pilot group before wider deployment that's not unusual ...'

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah, but....... If you're *not* going to be changing/ameliorating anything, what's the point of  a pilot group/test bed?

If you're 'testing' something, logically that means you don't know if it's going to work......

If this is the case its not doing much better now.

And why is that

overcharging where there is no need

everyone’s tightening their belts but some are saying no , we need more, but  let them tighten them even further

why do large letters have to go tracked when their contents are under £10 value or even 20£ for that matter

Yes it's been available to use for a while, I've seen it for months as an option on my sales. Not that I have used it but it's definitely been there.

Oh ok cheers

i use it where it makes no difference to before (ie small parcel) or where it’s beneficial

But if it doesn’t offer the cheapest option for buyer I bypass it with custom delivery

I will never use it to post a 100g cheap item for 2.74 who are they kidding

ok they say it would be exempt but not if it’s 102 g lol

Sure they don't know if it will work as they have never tried making SD mandatory with high volume real live users before. If it is a complete disaster I guess they will have to change it in some way.

I was planning to upgrade my PC which would involve buying and selling several expensive components on Ebay. Since it seems it will be virtually impossible to sell, they have lost a fair bit of money. My PC will have to stay as it is .

There will be a loads people dumping their old Windows 10 PCs on Ebay soon when Microsoft stop issuing security updates later this year. The ones that cannot take the upgrade due to no TPM2 etc without using a hack. A great opportunity for people to pick up the best condition laptops to run an Ubuntu LTS release on for very little money especially if there are less buyers around. Ubuntu runs super fast on my 12 year old Thinkpad and I can still run the latest web browsers and get security updates for the next 5 years. Unless you are into the latest games there really is no need to have a high spec PC these days.

Are you thinking of the buyer protection fee that Poshmark tried in the US and had to scrap after a few weeks because it was ruining their business?

EBay want a cut of the delivery price from the carrier which is why they are railroading sellers to use their simply rubbish delivery. It’s a step too far for me. It’s no longer free to sell in reality and it’s very controlling behaviour. I’m bailing.

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Just sold 4 items to the same buyer yesterday. All had "Simple Delivery" as the postage option.

However,

They the buyer had put an "Offer" on each one and I accepted. Now the buyer has had to pay postage 4 times, when I could easily package them up in the same parcel together for just the postage cost of one of them.

Could not find any way to cancel the postage for 3 of those items. And upon reading the "Simple Delivery", combining postage can only be done before payment is made.

Which sucks,  as "Offers" are paid as soon as accepted.

"Simple" meant to make it cheaper for postage.... NOT in this case for the buyer.

As such, have went through all I have for sale and put back on "Advanced Postage" where I was able to.

So now Ebay will loose out on any fee they would have made from selling postage via "Simple".

I am a helper too which surprised me after the 3 bans. It is about how many kudos we get i think. No idea if and when SD will be on my listings they are doing accounts in "waves" now so there's no date for it may be months and i still sit here waiting...and waiting

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Like many others I paused my listings on the 6th April expecting them to be "converted" to Simple Delivery. But, of course, nothing happened!

I have now ended my pause but in doing so I have ended (for now at least) the listings of larger and more fragile items, and anything selling over about £15, until we see what happens next!

The majority of my items fit into a normal standard letter sized envelope. And, of course, when ebay split the letter/large letter category they all defaulted to large letter even though the postage price was 85p. Clearly AI wasn't bright enough to realise that if something was listed with 85p postage then it wasn't a large letter - or, more likely, an ebay human told it to do that. Consequently a lot of manual changing is now required to all those items! - ahead of the SD Letter and Large Letter debacle!

But, regarding AI and its human programmers, as someone once said; "I am not as concerned about the increase in Artificial Intelligence as I am about the decline in Real intelligence!"

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Ebay or anybody else for that matter cannot claim they are using "AI" when it refuses to collect  available data

Anyone who sends anything needs to know the dimensions and weight of what they are selling before they post it. Whether you measure it yourself and buy a label on-line  or take it to the Post Office and they check it performs that task.

To ignore basic facts etc is blatant ignorance and perhaps  instead  of calling it AI it should be called BI .   I have written computer scripts  for years that automate manual tasks in a reliable fashions and you do that by processing known quantities .

One of the reason why you often hear about  stories people mistakenly buying miniature items is pictures and their scale are misleading in nature .

Ebays weight guessing software is expensive waste of money and one of the may reasons SD is not fit for purpose.

For whoever is reading these at Ebay , its been a quite weekend in terms of posts so you have no excuse not to do something .  🙂
