NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

they end when the auctioneer realises that no one else is going to bid - the big difference is that they do not have 'an end time' and e bay does (or did)

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

"I suppose it is in effect like a normal auction in an auction house instead. do they have end times? I don’t know."

No, auctions in auction houses don't have end times.  The auctioneer judges when nobody else is going to make a bid and then brings the hammer down.

An equivalent system on ebay would be something like saying that the "live" auction is going to start at a particular time and would end, say, 5 seconds after the last bid.  People could still put in bids at any time before the auction goes "live", but the frantic race to outbid each other would only start when the "live" auction starts and there wouldn't be a fixed finish time.  This would be quite different from ebay's latest experiment though.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I think EBay may lose some of the business market if buyers aren’t going on
EBay anymore due to the new “ideas” and private sellers who are often also
regular buyers aren’t on EBay as much as they did means less business (high
street call it footfall) for the business sellers.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Isn't that what "Going once.  Going twice.  Sold." (If they still do that?) is all about ?  To give bidders a warning that they'd better bid right away or lose the item ?

I haven't seen anything about this, apart from what's here but could this be an attempt to stop last second Sniping ?  A few seconds extension would allow the nimble fingered to have a second snipe if the first was out bid.

I'd like to know if the extended time is to be a standard amount or if the auction continues until no more bids have been made for xx seconds.

Yes, that's the theory, although at the auctions I've been to, they don't say anything as obvious as "Going etc".  They tend to just look around the room, say "Any more bids?  No?"  Hammer falls.  Mind you, I don't attend Sothebys so I imagine it's very different there!

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Unlike the likes of SD etc, this could actually be beneficial for sellers  as it creates a small buffer window where last second bids may go astray and enough time for those out bid by bidding tools to have a 2nd chance and in terms of any auction the more bids the better , as long as the auction house makes sure the winning bidder pays !

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Just had another read of that

the instructions say you have to book the collection before you create the label

but it then says get prepaid  label and then select book  collection

🤷🏼‍♀️maybe I’m being pedantic and wrong though

Just seen this on Google. For the US, an auction on trading cards will go on beyond the finish time if bids are coming in at last minute!

@sunflowers4me59  eBay hasn't given much detail about how they are determining which "select items" are included in that test, but just FYI - the same banner message appears on the eBay UK bidding help page, as well as the same pages for Canada, and Australia, so it appears to may potentially be a global change.

Goodness, I wonder if ebay can find any more ways to upset their users?

Actually, while that will upset buyers who snipe for bargains in the last few seconds (and back when I was a buyer that would include me), it should be welcomed by sellers because they'll get better prices.

I know of another site that's done it that way for years.

Ahh, again another site might have done this for years & I'm sure their buyers are well aware of it, ebay buyers though??? How well advertised is this, if it's anything like their other recent changes, I say no more.

Agree the sellers may get more for their item, ebay would get a higher cut also. How ebay implement it is the concern. Again they're messing with a sellers listing this time taking away their choice of when their auction ends.

If you bid last minute, you bid last minute, adding 2 more minutes just gives you 2 more minutes to wait to bid last minute...

I don't do a lot of bidding these days, but as a last second sniper, the auction end time being extended would put me off bidding altogether. I like to get the bid on, keep my fingers crossed, time's up & that's the end of it - win or lose. Any extra time and more bids would spoil the whole 'bidding experience', imo.  And I'd never stand the strain... 😄

They've certainly pulled out all the stops this year...

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Not particularly keen on the idea of extending the time - maybe OK for UK listings but international auction listings ending during the wee hours of the morning here?

But, I suppose if you’ve bid the maximum you’re prepared to pay, does it matter?

If someone is prepared to pay more, just as it is now, then they’ll win - if not, you’ll still win.

Unlike an Auction House, at least there will still be an advertised “end time” of sorts.

Any winning bid could have been placed at any time after the start of the auction, not necessarily only at the last second.

If you haven’t bid your top amount, well …………………….

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Ebay are trying really hard to copy every business out there. Where BP and SD were copy of Vinted extending time is Ebid. This is nothing new but ebay are trying their rock buttom to finish their business. Its called engineering ways to damage the business then close it. Not a single change lately has been positive.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

eBay are only reactive, not proactive - the only time they were proactive is when the site began.

But if it appears to work elsewhere, then why shouldn’t a site try it?

However, eBay continues to show its complete ineptitude and total lack of skill at making things work - making anything work or work properly.

I used to sell here - I’m now very glad I stopped.

As a buyer, not much has changed - if the price is right, fine - if not, pass on by - as it has always been.

What has changed for buyers is fewer listings - but, if all those who said they’re leaving actually leave, less competition for remaining buyers?

"....,ebay continues to show its complete ineptitude and total lack of skill at making things work..."

To which I'd add   --   totally disregarding how the changes to the site and the way it works appears to buyers.  Failing to explain the changes and how they work to them, leaving them fumbling around on an ever changing site with a broken search.  Hence the often quoted "Can't find what I'm looking for" on ebay.

Again and again it's been said about other sites  --  They're easy to use.  Ebay isn't easy for buyers or sellers any more.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Search has been knackered for a very long time - as we all well know - but, despite that, things can obviously be found - otherwise there wouldn’t be any sales.

I’ve never bought items only from eBay - buy things from numerous other sites.

Am I alone in that?

Doubt it.

Sellers should never put “all their eggs in one basket” - they need to explore other sites and spread their items accordingly (which sites will depend on what they’re selling).

If sellers stick with one site, well, they get stuck with what that site offers and it’s up to them to deal with the changes accordingly (or not, but their choice).

And if sellers do spread their wings and move to other sites, the choice of items remains the same for buyers - only now spread over more sites - but that choice doesn’t diminish.

But I don’t buy on “ease” - I buy on price - that’s what matters (whatever the site).

Just as sellers shouldn’t use just one site, neither should buyers - as has always been the case.

Wishing you all a good day - away to enjoy the weather (so sales might be down!)
