AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Glad it's working out for you. I joined a while back but need the push of SD to get me fired up (had a couple more ebay sales today, looks like I'm still not on SD yet). Meanwhile I'm doing what I always do on any site, buy a few very cheap things that will be useful, e.g. batteries, paper clips, cycling tops... to get familiar with what my buyers will see and to get my feedback up a rung or two. I hate feedback importing from other sites, it feels so naff.
Let us know when you make your first sale.

It's a great feeling when you make your first sale elsewhere as you realise that you are not a slave to ebay and a victim of whatever new draconian and poorly considered change they next announce in their noble efforts to kill their own platform.
It confirms you have real choices and if ebay are determined to make themselves an unattractive PITA then they will just suffer the commercial consequences from the business going elsewhere. It's dog eat dog now there's no point being loyal to ebay anymore as there is no payback they are happy to unnecessarily inconvenience and load excessive costs onto users for their own selfish gain.

thanks, more useful tips! Hopefully it will not take me as long to get au fait with the site like it did with this one.

Maybe its the warm weather, SD or slow sales for some but this place is like fight club.

The first rule of ebay club - don't mess with the postage on my listings.

But eBay claim to be the masters of local sales?……..
Really? I find ebay's pretty poor for selling locally and I didn't realise they claimed otherwise. The social network is the place to go for local sales. I've got a few stagnant collection only listings here that are on my list to move across to there some time when I can be bothered.

I think there's some TV ads at present bigging up their local collection. BICBW. I try to mentally switch off during ads or fast forward. Haven't seen a really good ad since those cats with thumbs advertising milk. Cravendale. Evidently ads do increase brand awareness. Though I've never bought any.
I'm disappointed to learn FB may be a good alternative. I loathe the idea of signing up for FB.

Facebook Market place is very good for local sales. Don't worry about signing up, it's not compulsory to post a picture of your dinner anymore, and you don't have to add friends, but it does put a message up saying "johnwash has no friends".
The main thing to watch out for is the scammers. I haven't actually worked out what the scam is, but they ask if it's still available, then ask if you will post... a fridge. You start to get a feel for it, I usually ask them where they are coming from when they ask where i live and don't hear from them again.

A one-off off topic for me but I couldn't resist.
I loved the 'cats with thumbs' advert too. All time favourite though was the dog and the cat and the mouse in front of the gas fire (showing my age).

Quite so. If I had friends why would I be posting here?
But don't I need a FB account? That's what I find distasteful. I don't like being tracked all over the Internet.

Probably includes the kind of people you read about in Reddit's Choosing Beggars group.
I believe it's not a good idea to say you'll hang on to an item until someone collects it. First to arrive helps focus their minds.

Yes, you do need an account, but you don't have to look at it (you will, because it's not as bad as you think) You don't have to put your photo up and you don't have to fill all the detail in about yourself for people to view.
Yes, you are tracked heavily by the cookie monsters but in actual fact it's quite interesting, because it is stuff you are interested in mostly. I looked for a conservatory the other day, I think I have seen every conservatory made now on facebook and i liked it. Sort of a quicker more targeted google search.
I got one guy I thought was a scammer to send me a picture of Junction 5 of the M5 when he got there and I would then send him my address. He travelled about 50 miles to the junction and sent the picture. Felt bad about that.

I have just gone to look at some of my listings and they are saying they have been switched to Simple Delivery, while other items I have just sold still seem to have the original postage option (Royal Mail). I'm not having this - if the option to use custom postage is gone then I am stopping selling on ebay. I don't want to use their stupid system and will look for other outlets for selling items (Facebook groups etc.)

Same here. I was amending prices on my phone last night and any changes or new listings now fall victim to SD!
I'm a bit out of touch with this topic as had merrily continued listing post April 15th on the assumption they'd decided not to pursue compulsory SD.
I'm assuming nothing has changed? So an incorrect postal weight (Evri) means I have to cancel the order and there's no scope for combined postage?

I also have had enough I have twice sold a cd new £4.45 & £4.00 both times I checked postal rate at padded envelope both time it showed parcel rate at £3.35 first sale a cancelled
2nd I sent by post office. At letter rate and have to wait 15 days for my funds good by selling on Ebay.

CDs are in the exempt from simple delivery list
when I try list one both simple delivery and custom postage appear
as it should , but seemingly doesn’t for everyone
Also if it’s under £10 and you send normal large letter post you get paid immediately if buyer leaves you positive feedback on receipt
otherwise yes, sadly they hold on to your money for too long

Yet it isn't an option for cassettes. Just tried to amend one and the cheapest it's showing is £2.70 when I know for certain I can send it £1.55 2nd Class Large letter even when the price is sub £10.
Thankfully I was only using RM for sub £10 items that can be shipped for £1.55, so it doesn't massively affect me, but I can imagine this would be infuriating for many.

On Vinted they had this problem with certain categories starting with very high postage eg
if you sold a plate and listed it under plates it started off from 5kg
no option to send just one at a smaller parcel rate
so people listed in a related category instead that had normal post cost
when postage exceeds the value of the item it does get silly

Well I hope the ebay phone and chat lines are busy this morning. I just tried to get onto chat and it said 3m wait but I was still there after 10-15m so gave up for now. People really neef to complain about this, not that they are likely to listen...
