AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Looks like they have now changed me so new listings offer SD only.
I really detest ebay for messing up something that was good in the past.
Large Letter rate is so unreasonable as tracking is a waste of the buyers money.
I'm just going to run my ebay listings down now and focus on selling at the clothing place.
This is now my last resort place for buying and selling.
I really want a minimalist lifestyle - they have lost a regular buyer and seller.

John
If you have to ask you haven't been paying attention all these years 🙂
There's two quotes from Churchill that I always remember.......
It has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government, except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time....
and
The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter....
Both are true, so what do they say about people?

i've just tried an experiment.. I went to an old lisiting whereby it shows my initial chosen cost of postage was £2.20 to buyer...went to revise the listing, to have a banner come up to tell me my listing has been updated to simple delivery at £2.94.... absolute clowns

From what I've read, they're equally controlling about postage over there too. Am I wrong?

WORKAROUND
The workaround I copied from someone else, actually seems to work. It's how I've completed all this weeks listings.
You start by going to list an item.. and you type in 'Piano'.. then select a piano picture from the next page. That gives you a listing page template, with the 'oversized postage' option selected in the Package Size area lower in that page. First thing you have to do is add some sort of expensive large post option as the main postage and maybe another in the additional services. You can then go and change everything on the page to what you're actually selling, and add the proper postage. Sometimes the postage jumps into SD, but as long as you keep one of the expensive large item costs in the postage options, it stays in non SD mode. See my screenshot below.
Unfortunately, it has to go live with an extra expensive postage option. But I put some text at the top of my description explaining why it was there.
Its not ideal, but none of these stupid badly done updates ever is.

I have some clothing that is under £10 and many of the items are thin tops that will go through the postage slot but ebay have some as simple delivery and some as not ,it is really stupid their Ai obviously can't see the thickness of Items they just seem to be guessing ,totally bonkers .

Aye it is honestly terrible and ebay have just entirely killed themselves cause of it

I’ve just read your workaround. I am astounded at this completely inefficient system and the need to go to all that effort.
By the time you’ve done all that you could list it and have it sold on other platforms! If I was a private seller I’d be long gone.
I drop in to eBay occasionally now to see if anything has changed, having ended all my listings (business seller different account) due to the never ending glitches, search inadequacies, ever increasing fees and the last straw was change to promoted fees.
It just seems to be getting worse, no combined invoices, overcharging on guesstimated postage.
Been a huge advocate of eBay since the turn of the century, I am quite saddened to see how this is playing out.

Yes John.... We get it , you are bwilliant bwilliant bwilliant.....

The link you have supplied makes it quite clear that the exclusions only apply to items costing under £10, in certain sub-categories, and "letter-sized" As eBay is adopting some Royal Mail terms, large letters are not "letter-sized".
Good try, but it's been covered dozens of times before, and is a non-starter.
Over the coming months, Simple Delivery will become the only delivery method available for private sellers when posting eligible items. Simple Delivery will be optional for items priced £10 and under, letter-sized, and in certain sub-categories* within the following areas:

My listings are now atrocious after having simple delivery forced onto them but now I can custom choose again. Huh? But with extremely limited custom options now and none are correct anyway. So did my opinion I gave yesterday get listened too for now at least I’d say maybe but still I’ve got so much work to do that needn’t need doing. I had them all set correctly but now SD was applied and it’s all messed up. It’s saying a large letter sized item is now letter sized. So that’s straight away would cause problems when brought because of too low a postage price. I am literally on the verge of tears at seeing my listings that I worked so hard on to make them presentable, eye catching and accurate are just in shambles.
This could easily reflect badly on me as a seller because now SD had essentially made me look like a seller who doesn’t care. But I very much do care. What am I still doing here on eBay? I must be crazy.

same here, if my postage amount was incorrect i refunded the buyer. Not to mention why would i want to pay to track a £3/4 item? Anyway now up to 22 items on the other site and i am getting views (in some cases more than when the items were on here!) Only one sale yet but enough of us start using the site then maybe it will grow. Do not need the money so am prepared to wait. I am not going to use V because i want to control all aspects of my postage.

Good morning GM
Completely agree about the demise of what was once a good platform. But I come from the ancient times of post war when 'make do and mend' was the way it had to be. So this is just more of that. A workaround is just meant to be a way of getting to continue 'normally' while finding a better solution, and this one will maybe help me sell my remaining stock of models and leave, and if it helps even one other seller to also continue, then all good.
I know there are other platforms, but for old plastic models in a huge variety of genres, the audience is here.
But hey, compared to tricking a long term sick cat to take her medicine every day, an ebay workaround is like a walk along the foreshore.

Will try it out, though i'm sure ebay's little bots are at this very moment squeezing every last drop out of their brain cells to stop you from that work around.
They really have got their knickers in a twist over these enforced changes on us & have made ebay such an awkward site to use.
I will still buy from ebay BUT only when i've got money in my ebay account from sales...so in other words I won't be shopping on ebay much until this stupidity is reversed.
24-06-2025 9:51 AM
The only "thickness" I can see is from ebay themselves.
24-06-2025 9:57 AM
It's basically seller sabotage by ebay...and an inside job to boot.
Job done by whoever is behind this ridiculous nonsense.

Yep, I'm the same and it's very sad.
I'd sell unwanted stuff and use the money to buy purely 'wanted' stuff (not 'needed' stuff). I'm no longer selling so I'm no longer buying myself 'treats' 😢.
Several months ago, ebay stated that some of their most 'valuable' customers were sellers-who-also-bought.
I'm pretty sure that you and I maetrix, aren't alone in this, so ebay have definitely shot themselves in the foot to some extent; even if they've only lost a little-toe, that's still business down the drain....

Someone at ebay is so invested in this they are going to have to fall on their sword over this mess.
I would usually do a few hundred buys on ebay a year (ok, maybe I have a shopping addition) but that's dropped to a trickle now as I'd rather buy elsewhere and ebay is no longer offering value for money.
Like you I'm now only using my balance from sales but it's annoying they return it quarterly still I guess it's better earning interest in my bank account than theirs.
24-06-2025 10:17 AM
Well,i've just spent the last of what I had in my sales money this morning..that'll be it now until something actually sells..then i've got to wait until the money actually comes into my ebay account..!?
There may well be things I want to buy on ebay but as a matter of principal over this whole shambles I will not spend a penny on here again.
I urge everybody who disagrees with these new changes to boycott this place - even a month would hit them hard and "hopefully" make them sit up and take notice.
