AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

"But then I don't agree with automatic feedback it's not respecting the wishes of the buyer to leave no feedback when mildly dissatisfied so consider it just another thing they have broken."
I agree, I've sometimes not left feedback at all rather than leave a negative if I've not been entirely happy but not unhappy enough to spoil someone's day by leaving a negative.
Recently when I've left feedback, it's asked me for comments on the *Item* rather than the seller. I've ignored that and given comments on the seller which I think is more useful. However, I haven't bought anything now since the end of March when they said SD would be rolling out, so I don't know how the feedback system is working now.

If a person is banned from the forum but not from the site, you can still exchange messages without being banned yourself AFAIK. At least that's what I've done for the last few days and I'm still here....

"I now only list on eBay those items that are under £10 and under 100g that will fit within a letter that I can post for 87p. Anything larger simply isn't worth all the extra charges that eBay add on, such as the high 'tracked postage' costs and buyers premium surcharge."
Same here, I've listed a couple of items at the low end that I can sell with custom postage. At the other end of the scale I've got some large bulky items which I think would fall outside of SD so I might add those for collection at some stage but tbh I haven't got much urge to sell on ebay at the moment.

"As an option it should have been promoted far more positively and not named SD ."
Anyone with even the tiniest modicum of commonsense should have realised that calling this complex and half-baked system "Simple" was going to cause derision and add fuel to the fire of resistance. I can only think that it was one of the out-of-touch bosses (and who presumably had never sold on ebay in their life) who came up this catastrophic misnomer and nobody dared disagree with them. Or maybe the person who came up with the name was a fan of George Orwell...

You can still message on eBay messages. This person just can't post on the forum.

Another thing that made me suspicious was that apparently whatever you send is covered for damage and loss etc. How come this is the case when Evri and almost every other one do their couriers have a prohibited list? I used Evri in the past, they break things a lot, they lose things and when I had to claim it was a nightmare, they try to wheedle out of paying even if it is not in their prohibited list, in the end I had to say I would take legal action and eventually they paid up. I can’t see this so called buyer protection working either. Not something I will have to even think about much longer.

Yes.... If Simple Delivery is so brilliant and Buyers are so Protected by it, then surely eBay needs to scrap the Buyer Protection Fee....!
24-05-2025 3:16 PM
That’s a very good point and if they have so much faith in Evri why are they imposing it then!

you can by pass it ..when you get to simple delivery press on freight only option then back to postage only and the custom delivery option will appear ..you can then put your own delivery options in..I do this as i want to use royal mail and its dearer to do this through ebay...

I’ve been doing that since the start of this blessed thing but yesterday some of mine were changed and I had no choice, it will happen to everyone soon. The main reason I am leaving.

If SD just made it easier for the seller to select and pay for the most appropriate courier , in a simple method at the best price , than SD would be an appropriate name , but that is not what SD actually does
A major issue with so called Simple Delivery is changes the fundamental buyer seller relationship that adds layers of complexity that simply didn't exist before and that goes someway to explain why BPF and delayed payment have to be in place in the eyes of Ebay .
These are my "opinions" 🙂
An un-advertised feature of SD is Ebay sell the buyer the postage and to that extent you break a fundamental buyer protection with the seller . The buyer still has similar level of protection in terms of postal coverage but it is now Ebay's problem to resolve , so Ebay are obliged to provide an extra level of service to the buyer and that is where BPF has some validity but not the rate of Ebay BPF surcharge the overall deal when all they are actually covering are condition issues as postage is fully compensated .
Having created a hole in the process that didn't exist delayed payment needs to be added to help make sure that sellers actually wrap and post the item on Ebay's behalf. If they didn't there would be some devious fake "sellers" who exploit that hole for their own short term gain . Delayed payment is also a good money earner Ebay for which Ebay benefit for any delay in the dispatch and delivery process which is a clear conflict in interest in terms of true customer service for both sellers and buyers .

Yes, the 'excluded from compensation' list is my personal hobby-horse in S.D.
Ebay say 'fragile' and breakable items can be sent with S.D. (if 'properly packaged' ; who's going to check??) and will be covered in the event of loss or damage in the post.
Ebay (from kat@ebay) have also stated that items on the carriers' exclusion lists are also 'excluded' from S.D.
But almost anything that could be considered at all breakable or fragile is on the 'excluded from compo' lists of the carriers.
(the excluded/restricted list is different from the prohibited list BTW. The prohibited items will *not* be carried at all by the carriers. The excluded/restricted items will be carried, but not covered for loss or damage in the post)
How the exclusion problem is actually going to work is still a mystery, and will remain so until some poor soul of a seller comes to these boards attempting to deal with the fall out from it...

I can still buy pass Simple Delivery and use my own choice(Royal Mail), but that is only because they haven't changed it yet, the role out of change to Simple Delivery takes time, not everyone has it yet, but that is only a question of time, so anyone still having the choice to use theirs own delivery is doing it in borrowed time...

I have an elderly neighbour who has been selling on ebay, but up until this month she hadn't been on ebay for over a year so wasn't aware of the new SD and BPF and so I have been trying to help her but she hasn't really understood it and has got quite muddled ,even after I made sure she was on custom delivery .When the one item was sold ,she found that the sale had been switched to SD ,so that really muddled her ,she didn't know about QR codes and because ebay switched off their platform on ipads etc she has been left to use a tiny phone which even I struggled with ,and it says she can use Royal mail ,evri ,yodel , DPD . I have managed to sort her out, but she didn't know how she would get the money she thought Paypal was going to be it instantly so I explained all that to her, but she gets very irritable by it all and switches her mind off after a short time . It makes you wonder how many other people are in this situation probably hundreds
24-05-2025 6:14 PM
Yes, I think it is going to cause alot of unforeseen problems for people.... that's why I have removed everything from sale, as I don't want to deal with the problems it may create
24-05-2025 6:45 PM
"because ebay switched off their platform on ipads etc"
You can't use ebay on an ipad? 😮 😮😮 But..but..I know loads of people with ipads, OMG, I can't believe it! I don't mean I can't believe you - I mean I can't believe they've cut out of the loop one of the most popular platforms! I use a Mac laptop and so it's probably on the cards that they'll cut that out next! Well that would be me done for good because there's no way I'm going to use a fiddly 2" phone to browse the internet when I've got a 15" screen!
