AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Sorry, wasn't asking you explain yourself, was just wondering as my first thought was, mmm sounds like there's a gap there that might be worth looking into.
Always curious to hear buyers opinions and what their looking for.

No worries, sorry I can't be more specific.
I'm sure their relative is a lot more representative of the majority of sellers than we are here. The relative just told them he'd stopped selling, too complicated now, and didn't feel the need to elaborate. Unlike me, who gave them both barrels and then some 😁 None of my other family or friends belong to a forum, and some even think it's a bit of an odd thing to do. We'll never know how many sellers have stopped selling without feeling the need to come on to the forum to talk about it, but the fact that my friends had noticed a reduction in the quantity of listings, before they knew anything of the background, speaks volumes to me.

I relisted some and have just sold my first thing in 2 months. I still have custom postage. Buy a label is all Packlink with all the options about 15. So i will be doing what i always do buy direct from RM click and collect and enter the tracking number on the item or i can refund part and send 2nd LL without the tracking and wait 14 days for payment

I expect quite a number of sellers would have been able to do a bit more selling over the past few weeks, if eBay hadn't made such a mess of when SD was supposedly taking over - which led to lots of items being taken down in the panic to avoid it...

I too have relisted some items in collectibles, but only those items that are under £10 AND fit in an envelope that I can post second class for 87p and get a proof of posting. Of course the items still have the 'buyers eBay surcharge' but I can't do anything about that. However, I do make a highlighted reference in every listing as to where the other larger or dearer items are (over 400 so far) - the 'boot sale' section of my own 'greater london bus map' website. It's early days though to see how successful that will be.

I would not be able to buy from you then as you only use EVRI, our local courier picks and chooses where he delivers and farms are definitely on his hit list along with any out of the way places. As for RM, until i delisted on the 7th April (relisted since as i can still do custom) i posted 28 items between 5/2 to 7/4, none of them paid for tracking, i just used the Certificate of posting number. Of those only one did not get marked as tracked and i had to wait the 14 days, the other 27 were paid out within the two days of delivery being marked. We all have different experiences and have to go with what suits us best. The items were sent both as small parcel and LL.

im on SD for new lots and have some older lots still on previous postage.
there is some sort of postage discount going on at the moment for SD. I’ve sold 2 things recently.
one person was charged £3.38 instead of the £4.06 for up to 2kg parcel with Evri.
and another was charged £2.48 instead of the usual £2.98 for a up to 1kg parcel…
considering I was charging £5.39 for “normal” EVRI tracked and signed this is a lot cheaper.
£2.48 and £3.38 are the amounts excluding VAT. If you add 20% to each then it will give you the expected charges of £2.98 and £4.06. For some reason eBay is showing the net amount in some places instead of the total amount charged.

Are you looking at the buyers side aswell, they have paid SD which you as a seller DO NOT SEE most of the time. Goes directly into ebays pocket. Your £4.06 is more likely £6.06
13-05-2025 7:49 PM
Yes i took everything off about 6 weeks ago all for nothing i'm not worried about buyer fee can drop prices to cover that it's the SD that worries me. I see all the packlink prices are there even 87p letter but i've heard they are bad as well
13-05-2025 7:52 PM
Yes most of my items are letter or large letter i could cope with the SD for parcels as can print a label for RM to collect (cannot get to PO or drop off) though they are now talking about bring a label being available again sometime for people without a printer. The post box is nearby for the letters as now it's 30p collection i will go back to doing that

I didn't know that the cert of posting number could be entered will look into that. My local Evri driver is very good but i'm in town and it does depend on who the driver is. I get email updates about delivery and they leave in my safe place, just had one today though i can't use them because not able to get to a drop off

Sorry I don't follow? I was just clarifying why that poster wasn't seeing the charges they were expecting to see, the difference being the VAT.

Packlink has no involvement with Royal Mail postage on Ebay.
13-05-2025 8:47 PM
Well that's what i saw and it said that it would not be available soon will try to get a screenshot
13-05-2025 8:53 PM
It said Packlink parcel protection available at the top and i assumed they were involved with all the options. Another confusing thing maybe i made a mistake trying to sell again. Anyway bought label from click and drop direct and it's been posted and tracking number added
13-05-2025 10:10 PM
No. Don’t think so. Independent search on my items from another source shows £4.06 for a similar item. The “Invoice” shows £4.06 once VAT allowed for on postage. It’s not £6…
13-05-2025 10:27 PM
What is even more frustrating is that there is no way to cover the cost of packing.
This is all well and good when you reuse a box or jiffy bag but useless when you have to buy stuff. I don't know why anyone thinks this is a good thing.
13-05-2025 11:20 PM
Even if you do re-use a box and packing materials (not that you can re-use tape) it's totally reasonable to apply a small packing charge. I sometimes spend 15-20 minutes packing an item (although that's an exception). More often it takes 5 minutes (to do it properly, not just sling it in a box). If I was paying myself minimum wage to pack an item, that'd be just over £1. I generally add 20-50p packing charge to my postage cost, so I'm already paying myself less than half minimum wage to pack an item.
Ebay will say - just add it to the item cost, but for some low value items that just means they won't sell. Ebay will become a vast warehouse sellers don't want to sell on, and buyers think is overpriced. Also I think there's value in being able to communicate to buyers that £X is for the item, £Y is for the postage and £Z is for the packing. When I buy on ebay that feels authentic to me, I know things cost money to post, and I know if I want it packed well it's reasonable to pay a little for that too.
If every cost is contained within the price of the item, buyers will just go "how on Earth is that DVD worth £6?" without realising it's actually worth £3.50 but postage is £2 and packing is £0.50.
A bit like how ebay users today have largely 'forgotten' it's conscientious to provide positive feedback if you have a good transaction, and that sellers are not all businesses they can be rude to. I'm just a bloke in a house mate, stop treating me like you would a shop assistant, and stop treating shop assistants like dirt while you're at it.
Oh, I pine for the glory days of the early 2000s.

"I'm just a bloke in a house mate, stop treating me like you would a shop assistant"
I remember explaining this to a relative after they discovered ebay, they were having a bit of a rant about something not turning up after about five whole days. They had no idea what private sellers were and were a bit embarrassed once they understood.
