AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

I too understand the issue for those of us that have large numbers of valid postage stamps to use. One thing I would say is that, taking a Royal Mail small parcel for example costing £3.90 second class, you can use two first class stamps (2 x £1.70) plus 50p to make up the value - it saves a lot assuming you bought the first class stamps long before recent price increases. I frequently use first class stamps on larger second class post items as a way of using them, as I too never use first class post.

Agreed, the recent changes ebay have made confirm that they have absolute contempt for the users of their selling platform and are only interested in trying to satisfy their greed.

Yes, that is exactly what I used to do – it confused the Post Office the first few times I part-used 1st class stamps on something actually going 2nd class, but it saved me money as I had had the first class stamps some time. (I actually found a book of four “lickable” ones behind a shelving unit some years after they’d been changed to self-adhesive.)
I also can’t see how I would offer combined postage now. It’s just a compliment mess at the moment.

Yes they are deleting posts.
And this one, possibly my last, will probably go the same way.
So much for J.D. Vance and his great American free speech for all that he lectures us about.
I'm almost done with ebay after 21 years. Once my balance is spent then neither a buyer nor seller will I be.
I have no affection at all for them nor for A or PP or FB or any of the American-owned megacorps. All of which are greedy, selfish and controlling. Which orange man-baby does that remind you of?
As for ebid a more apt name would be behid. If you pay their lifetime fee (used to be £49.99 now £69.99) you'll be fortunate to get a penny of it back in sales. Just read their forums.
Once the private sellers are driven out the cowboys will be out to lasso the small businesses in their bid to create a luxury buying experience for the wealthy where the big brands rule supreme. I find that thought amusing in the extreme as it's akin to transforming what was once a car boot field into a prestige shopping centre! Neat trick if you can do it.
Goodbye ebay, I won't miss you and you won't miss me.

Same here.
And I've got about £200 worth of stamps in the drawer. I can only hope my attempts to showcase my items on Twitter gain a few sales.

What we need is for some other entrepreneur to take over the "car boot" element. And I hate to think it's come to this, but preferably a British entrepreneur who understands our culture. Sadly I think it's become all too obvious in recent time just how different our two cultures are.

I think that just the opposite will happen.
If only a letter can go by the favoured postage method, only really cheap items will be listed. Anything over the £10 limit just will not be listed.

Still able to list items with my choice of P&P despite it being the 15th. Have added the following though:

This makes me a little more hopeful eBay will be forced to do a U turn if ENOUGH sellers pull their listings once it's enforced (not as yet today). Do they think we're an easy target to walk over and always do a bit of complaining then tow the line?
WRONG - not this time!!

Some buyers do that routinely to get free items, sadly.
I’ve had many try this with me even though I always measure the garment thoroughly and emphasise the measurements over the arbitrary ‘size’.
It doesn’t always work, but at least twice I’ve had messages from potential buyers saying things like ‘oh, but your measurements can’t be right, a size 14 doesn’t have a 26” waist, I’m a 14 (32” waist) so if I buy it and it doesn’t fit can I return it…’ I block them.

I've got lots of 1st class left from when i bought loads as i could use 2 for international letter. Then things started to come back and it seems RM decided we had to use online labels which i hadn't known about at the time. I still have them now

I don’t have any stamps (well I have a book of 12 ‘robin’ ones left from ten years ago that I use to send my single annual Christmas card to someone to whom it matters) but I think they should allow us to cash in stamps now, with recent changes (not just on eBay) they are so near to useless that it really isn’t fair to people who have bought or earned hundreds of pounds worth.
And they need to stop giving books of stamps as ‘compensation’ for lost mail as well. Raah! (as we say in this house when we’ve just been on a rant).
I hate the modern world. I’m not a collector but ‘Picture’ stamps were so lovely.

25 years I've been here, and during that time I've sold in excess of 4,000 items - but as of this weekend, with the upcoming forced introduction of so-called 'Simple Delivery', I've placed all my selling activities on indefinite hold.
According to the message which eBay sent out last month, "Simple Delivery is our all-in-one delivery solution, designed to cut out all of the effort and save you money."
The latter part is a provably false statement, insofar as the only two options offered for SD - Evri and Royal Mail - are both more expensive than Yodel, which has been the carrier I've used in the main for the past year or more. The vast majority of my parcels are under 1Kg, and cost £2.69 via Yodel - as opposed to £2.94 with Evri.
To encourage buyers I list everything with 'Free postage', which I incorporate into my start price - so how does increasing that cost by 10% "save me money"?
Likewise, some items fall into 'Large Letter' rate with Royal Mail, and can be sent for £1.80 or £2.20, dependant on weight - but with SD, if that exceeds 100g, I am not provided with that option.
Again, how does increasing that cost "save me money"?
The short answer is that SD won't "save me money", it would only serve to raise my start prices to account for it - meaning my potential buyers would have to pay more, making it, in effect, another fee on them, and increased revenue for eBay, as higher start prices mean they get more on their 4% BPF charge...
....unless eBay reverses course - oh, look, a flying pig - the only items I'm likely to sell off in future will be the few I have that fall under the 100g/£10 limit, and when they're gone, I'll be done.

I have done a couple of dummy listings and neither worked out cheaper than dealing with RM direct and paying online using their collection service.

"I have done a couple of dummy listings and neither worked out cheaper than dealing with RM direct and paying online using their collection service."
As per my preceding post, eBay's claim that SD will "save you money" is demonstrably false.

Just business bullsh** spin; means absolutely nothing.
They don't care about 'saving you money' ...they don't care if you live or die.
They just want it to sound *nice*, aaahhhh.... how caring of them.....
A bit like banks advertise themselves as being "by YOUR side" (gushing smiley advert voice over 🤢)
The minute your comfort threatens 20 pence worth of shareholder profit , they'll chuck you under the bus without a second thought.
It's so insulting that they think we'll believe their patronising carp. 😡😡
(you may have gathered that I believe advertisers to be lower than pond-life! 😂😂)

SD will never come close to competing with RM directly. RM provide a great collection service. The price is good for the items I sold using large letter 48hr tracked and they brought the label.
15-04-2025 5:07 PM
As eBay is now forcing you to pay a label they provide you didn't select are they responsible if the item gets lost as you didn't buy the label provided . that is a question that need to be answered

Apparently we get a daily allowance of 100 kudos that we can give a day. It's like getting pocket money allowance back when I was young and school age lol.
