Marking an item as dispatched when not using simple delivery label

Hello on the 29th September i sold a kids toy. I went to do the usual pack it up, write the address and then post it. However i noticed i could only see the buyers name, i thought weird. So looked into it more and ebay had automatically purchased a label for me.  This label was not the correct price or weight and would of resulted in the buyer having to pay at their end. I submitted a refund request for the label. I've posted the item myself via royal mail on the 30th but have no way of marking it as dispatched. The last day for postage was yesterday meaning it's over due.

How do i mark it as dispatched. Simple delivery is a horrible system and shouldn't be forced down our throats. I dont want some company dictating to me what label i should get. Now i have to deal with the stress of this. No doubt which will end up with the buyer getting a refund because they will use it as an excuse.

Marking an item as dispatched when not using simple delivery label

If you generate the original label that will mark the item as dispatched.   You should also be able to change the tracking number via View Order Details > Postage > Track Package > dropdown arrow > Add Tracking.   That has to be done on a desktop browser.

Simple Delivery Royal Mail labels will be accepted and delivered without issue provided the item is within Royal Mail's Medium Parcel size and weight limits even if eBay guessed incorrectly. So, if the item is a Medium Parcel but eBay only charged for a Small Parcel (for example) the PO counter would still accept the item and there would be no "fee to pay" card given to the buyer.

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

Would this not affect my ability to claim a refund for the pre-paid label though as i would of now activated it?

It was a medium parcel and they did a small parcel label. Is that true?, even if it is i still dont know if id chance it. My local post office closed and the closest one now is about half hour away and dont fancy going there and them rejecting it.

No, it won't. eBay check whether there has been an acceptance scan by the carrier to determine whether the label has been used or not.

Post Offices have been instructed to accept Simple Delivery labels provided they are within the size and weight limits of a Medium Parcel even if underpaid. The Post Office has also published a guidance page with the following guidance should there be any issues at the counter:

"If you have a personal eBay account, you’ll most likely be using Simple Delivery. This means the buyer pays for the postage and you’ll be sent a prepaid postage label. You can print this yourself or ask the Post Office team to print it from a QR code. Our branches should accept all parcels, as long as they’re within the service’s maximum weight and dimensions (20 kg and 61 cm x 46cm x 46cm)."

i have a personal account but free shipping on this product, surely the buyer wouldn't be responsible for that would they? I hope not as i moaned to the buyer about it being the wrong shipping label (presuming it was ebays fault)

The buyer is never held responsible for any issue that might arise with a Simple Delivery label. It doesn't matter whether the buyer or the seller paid for it.

If eBay "guess" the size or weight incorrectly Post Offices have been instructed to accept the package anyway. The buyer will not receive a "fee to pay" card; any penalty charge from RM will be charged to eBay via their RM business account.

If the seller changes eBay's "guess" and gets it wrong; i.e. the seller selects "Small Parcel" instead of "Medium Parcel" but eBay were in fact correct the seller will be charged any surcharge applied by RM. The buyer will not receive a "fee to pay" card.

If the seller buys their own RM label (i.e. they don't use the Simple Delivery label) and underpays the postage their buyer will receive a "fee to pay" card.
