Looking to start HMRC assessment, where are the sales reports? Templates are useless ?

To start with a Basic view the amounts needed from your 2024 Sales on eBay for Self Assessment is:

On your Hub page

Go to 'Performances' column

Then press 'Sales'

The 'Sales Review' page that comes up will show you the last '30 days' sales etc.  You can alter this to 'This Year' it will give you a simple view of your 2024 Sales, eBay fees & postage you purchased from eBay. Print it out.

Make a list of expenses you can claim as Tax Deductions against your 2024 'Net Sales' on eBay.

Keeping a copy, as well as guarding against other organisations' incompetence, has the benefit of making future years' returns much easier; I simply copy my previous year's return altering the figures appropriately.

Combined with keeping a spreadsheet of everything I buy and everything I sell, my tax return takes about half an hour to complete every year.

Ah yes but it’s not working, the amount we pay in charges and fees it should be working all day everyday esp as 31/01/25 sellers will have to file acco7bts …

Ah yes true, keep a copy, of what?  sales are minimum as such, selling now just as a hobby, trying to keep it afloat is long now.. the fees and charges we all pay should provide enough  basic info to get our assessment filed , but alas as usual eBay are inefficient ineffective in not providing the data needed,  bring back 2012 easy peasy!

Have just bought myself a laptop to start spreadsheets. I used to do them on my other laptop but that now refuses to open up as it’s a 2010 one. Can’t stand doing spreadsheets on a iPad.

@lovelacelinenlife happens to me frequently. Been reported as an issue several times. Refresh the page until you get the security sign in, then reports magically appear.

I’m sure you can create a financial report which totals the total sales then minus the fees and any postage bought ?

If the Sales Report page is sticking on the 31 days.

I find by exiting & re-entering your eBay Account allows you to look at other time limits you require  e.g. 'This Year'.

As I know this is a regular problem, I always look at my Sales Report page first, so I do not have the exit & re-enter my eBay account.

Oh right so its a glitch but is possible and all correct ? As I plan to download my statement for the year and do the tax return that way.

I will try to exit and return to page on another search engine, that also helps, but it’s taking too much time all this malarkey… time as a business seller the private sellers don’t have to even think about… ?? 

I tend to think the maximum they are allowed to earn is apx £1000? HMRC aid interested in anybody regularity earning above that per year?  Or listing mega amounts per month..?

Well, no..... why the suprised '??' at the end there? *Genuine* private sellers aren't trying to run businesses. They're just trying to flog off their personal (or their husband's in my case 😁) old carp and collectables.

Private sellers don't think about 'doing the books' any more  than  they did back in the days when people used to advertise a 2nd hand something-or-other in the post office window or the ads in the local rag or flog it at a car-boot/garage sale.

All ebay did was give 'em a bigger audience.

The figure that HMRC is supposed to be interested in is £1700.00 per year. 

But if those sales are made up of, for instance : a used mirror for a van, a bag of unused 40 year old components, a book of british stamps, a unused but unboxed lawnmower belt, a 2nd hand telly remote control, some used amplifiers and a old extender board for a 1990's computer... (etc etc... yes this is the sort of carp my husband hoards and I'm desperate to try and get rid of *without* it going to landfill!).... I can't imagine for a moment that HMRC will give a hoot about it.

Yep, now you're talking.  If HMRC look at 'private' accounts with 500 listings of brand-new-in-box widgets, or new clothes in a wide range of sizes, or hand-made personalised do dahs; yes they will be very interested!

For some reason I am unable to get my postage figures to make any sense.  The figure supplied on the sales report for postage labels (purchased on eBay) does this include whether it is paid for through PayPal, debit card and using funds?

Yes there is a difference, the eBay won’t include anything offsite, like PO or couriers self ordered, it can only work out what’s it’s taken. (EBay) 

Akso plus some of my items are free to post, some are half price as well…… so anything I have in my bank app postage wise I add to eBay and bobs your uncle that’s my post!! lol 😝

In the end I “contact eBay” got the BOT .. who I asked to speak to a agent, got a lovely agent who talked me through the process , being on iPad I had to go  HUB/RESEACH /seller reports/custom .. he was fantabulastic!

I usually pay for my postage from my eBay funds, but I recently paid for a postage by my PayPal account & this amount showed on my eBay Sales report page.
