Items in basket not selling.

I am assuming there is a difference between "Watched Items" & " Items in nbasket".

As in "Watchers" may simply just be watching & making a decission to buy or not, have a similar item for sale & want to see if it sells & what price an item makes, etc etc.

But "Items in basket" would suggest to me that a potential buyer does want to purchase an item, but maybe waiting for amybe a reduced offer, or until they have funds to pay, or other reason.

But I have noticed a lot of my items that are " In baskets" still do not sell & I find that odd.

Especially as I list for 30 days, so it's not like they have not had enough time.

Anyone else with similar or thoughts?

Items in basket not selling.

Watched items have been put on a user's Watch List.

Items in a basket have been put in the user's basket.

Not every user that puts an item on a Watch List or in a basket is interested in making a purchase right away; some may not be interested in making a purchase at all. In fact, not much of any sort of conclusion can be drawn by either action, other than the user may have an interest in being able to find that item again quickly at some point. Each of those users is doing that for the user's own benefit and for the user's own reasons, not the seller's.

Some of those users may in fact be competitors selling similar items that may be interested in seeing if your item eventually sells, or if you are willing to make an offer to potential buyers as part of the seller's research to help the seller compete with you.

If you stop assuming that every user that watches an item or puts it in a basket is planning to purchase from you, you will save yourself a lot of stress and aggravation.

Items in basket not selling.

Thanks for the reply.

I know that not every user who watches an item, is NOT potentially a buyer & are possibly there for other reasons both you & I have covered.

I however did not see why someone would place an item in a basket if they did not intent to purchase it, other than possibly awaiting an offer as we both covered or as you mentioned making it easier to find an item ( Had not thought of that point ).

As to assuming every buyer who watches an item is planning to make a purchase, in all honesty I didn't think that ( I only wished that were the case- lol ).

But I had assumed that in the case of an item in a basket, they were indeed planning to make a purchase., hence why I asked the question in the 1st place.

As to "Stress & Aggravation" - Come on - I run an ebay account as a seller - So it naturally goes with the territory - As all seller know only to well  😩

Items in basket not selling.

I tend to put my ‘final contenders’ in the basket, when searching around before committing.

I find them easier to find in my basket as I have so many items in my watch list.

When I feel I’ve searched all I need to, I then look again at the basket items before deciding which to buy.

The reason why I don't always end up buying is because by the time I've got a few in the basket, it will probably be many hours after I started looking & I'm now too tired to decide.

Morning comes, & being an impulse buyer, mostly, the moment has passed & sensible head is back on, or I’ve just forgotten all about it.

Why I have so many items in my watch list is that I tend to get an idea in my head - maybe watched something on TV, looking on idea pages, seen an ad etc., & so search for it & either find it difficult to find exactly what I want, or get distracted by the other seller’s ads on their page, or get fed up with the search results.

Items in basket not selling.

Interesting points there "Mouse" .

The main one being as both yourself &  "eburtonlab" said, it makes it easier to find items.

I suspect as a seller, though I try to put myself in the "Mind" of sa buyer, I find it almost impossible to do so.

Especially in regards to your " Impulse" purchases comment, as I can't ever think of a time in my lifetime I every purchased an item on impulse.

Im the sort that makes a list when going to the supermaket & sticks to it, or if I am in need of a replacement item, such as a fridge or other large purchase I look for the cheapest 1st, then may upgrade by a visual preferance or such like.

So for me " The moment has passed" never happens & I don't get distracted.

Which is probably why I didn't get why people place items in a basket & don't then buy them.

But now  in some cases I do get it - lol !!!!!!

B.T.W off topic,  but your username made me smile, it brought back memories of my childhood watching cartoons & a character called " Speedy Gonzales " & the catchphrase " Arriba, arriba … andale, andale ".

Pity he was banned by so many networks for being " Stereotypical" for want of a better phrase, but alas that's the modern era we live in.  😟

Items in basket not selling.

Putting items in the basket is my workaround to where I used to put items I was planning on buying, which was saved under various lists.

Ebay changed it, & although I could still save under a list, I could not always find the lists again.

I still have the lists as if I watch something, after I’ve watched it I can then add to lists, & I can see my old lists, but can’t seem to access them at all now to view saved items.

I think my impulse buying started when Paypal came along & gave me what I used to call ‘free money’ to spend - the much loved Paypal balance. <I know the MP balance has been introduced, but for me it’s another ‘the moment has passed’>

If I really need something like a washing line that I can't easily get in a shop though, then I’ll have a couple of brands in mind & know exactly what I’m after & do a lowest price search & pick one from a UK seller & buy it.

My impulses are usually shoes & clothes 🙄

I do remember Speedy Gonzales although when I first read your comment I was thinking Yosemite Sam until I Goggled – which then made me smile as one of my college lecturers was the spitting image of him, complete with red hair, moustache, height, & choice of clothing.

Luckily he didn’t have the temper or the <cough> accessories 😌
