I don't think that's a good idea as it looks like drop shipping and any UK buyers would have to pay vat and possibly other import taxes/costs.

Yes you can. Why not? You just need to set the item location Thailand. Once your sales hit the vat threshold, then you would need to obtain a vat number and open a business account.

This is incorrect.
You don't register as a business once you've made £85,000 - you register as business as soon as you start to trade as a business, the UK VAT registration threshold is nothing to do with it.
The OP here is not selling off their own personal items such as clothes from their wardrobe, bits from their loft/garage etc if they're dropshipping from Thailand.
