Hi everyone. I've had a buyer message today saying their item was delivered yesterday and the tracking says it was left in a safe place but they do not have a safeplace. I pulled up the tracking and it showed the right address and it took a few messages but the buyer agreed it was their door in the photo but the item is now not there and there was no card through the door.
I'm going to chase up Royal Mail tomorrow but what's my expected process and outcome for this? The buyer is brand new to eBay and this looks to be their first purchase. I'm not fully clued up on safe places with Royal Mail and whether you need to opt into them. Is this a known scam?

It may or may not be somebody trying it on.
If the door is on the road then it's entirely possible that the package has been spotted and stolen.
By all means chase up Royal Mail but, from your point of view, if the tracking shows delivery then you're covered against an eBay item not received claim, and you should also have eBay Seller Protection against a chargeback if your buyer initiates one with their card provider.
What you don't want to do is to get into conversation via eBay messages discussing the package being stolen. You don't want to acknowledge this as a possibility, the ball is in the buyers court.

The Tracking says delivered, so it is up to the Buyer to contact the Royal Mail & find out where the item was left (they probably haven't look around their property).

Thanks guys. It shows at the front door and from street view, it looks to not be a roadside residence and the doorway is quite sheltered. It was left Saturday afternoon around 5pm but it looks like they only saw the delivery notification on Sunday morning.
With the storm on Saturday, I'm considering that maybe that had something to do with the missing item.

Your responsibility is to deliver the parcel to the buyer.
The tracking shows you have
Stop messaging the buyer and wait for the INR case respond to that case with your tracking number.
Case should close in a few days in your favour.
If anything else happens come back to the board for advice
