Is ridiculous how customers are allowed 30 days to report courier damage

I had a £450 items delivered and a few weeks later I get a return request.

It turns out it was damaged on delivery.

I had lost my opportunity to put a claim in with courier.

I contact ebay customer service about their policy on time frame customers have to report a item was damaged on delivery and they said 30 days, I am like but I cannot put a claim in with couriers as it gone passed the claims window and they basically said it tough luck.

It is absolutely ridiculous that they are allowed so much time to report damage that has happened on delivery, I don't have an issue with the 30 days to return but 30 days to report damage is just not fair to sellers as we cannot put insurance claims in, Why is ebay allowing us to be punished and pick up the losses for something that was not our fault?
