Import tax on fabric?? Business seller

The fun continues.  I'm now being hit by import tax in my fees?This is for an order going to Jersey so does that mean the buyer has paid £50.40?  So I'm being charged a fee on money that is not going into my pocket but going to HMRC for import taxes.  How is that OK?

It's getting to the point where it's honestly not worth selling on here with these fees!  Do I have to now block Jersey and Guernsey from buying from me to stop this?

That's the GST on goods being imported into Jersey and as such, nothing to do with HMRC.

GST is charged on most goods at a rate of about 5%, which is what you have seen. ebay collect this on your behalf and remit it to Revenue Jersey.

Ebay bases selling fees on the total the buyer pays, even if a portion  of that does not go to the seller. 

It's been that way for a long time.
