I knew eBay's generosity wouldn't last for long. I don't much care about the fees; I just wish they'd make up their minds and stop changing things around.
How will the new fees affect auction listings? Will auction listings be exempt ( I doubt it,) or will buyers need to pay more than what they bid? If so, I can foresee a lot of bidders refusing to pay when they they realise they need to pay more than they thought.

If someone comes along and bids £11.15 on your item and wins; they will pay £11.15 as they're expecting and you will get £10. (£10 + 4% (40p) + 75p = £11.15).
That seems suspiciously like we sellers are paying fees once again.
If the winning bid is £11.15, but we're only receiving £10, how can they continue to claim that "selling is free"?
I just wish they'd make thier minds up instead of continually moving the goal posts.

Lets face it folks.. Ebay has been deteriorating into a pathetic confusing mess for many years and this is just the latest illogical confusing and detrimental change. Nothing Ebay does makes sense. For example you now have money 'sitting' in Ebay after a sale. I thought that was the plan and that Ebay would make interest on that money. therby not having to charge private sellers fees and we could use that money to buy from other sellers and in fact Ebay would always have a massive float of sellers money But NO! that would have been too simple
So Ebay automatically transfers all the money into your bank account every now and then regardless of if you want Ebay to do that or not.

I agree with you.. But thats nothing new from Ebay these days.. Talking to customer service is like travelling to a parallel universe where black is white and up is down.

Yes you are right.. The market dictates the price and buyers will not buy unless the price is right.. so sellers will have to drop prices because of Buyer fees... which amounts to the same as sellers fees.

IF it was a genuine 'Buyer protection fee' it would be optional and buyers would respect that.. But its basically a charge for using Ebay and buyers are not going to like that at all..It will put them off bidding and buying..
Buying should always be a simple process.

Yes, if the item is fully refunded, the full Buyer Protection fee will also be refunded. If the item is partially refunded, the Buyer Protection fee refund will be prorated.
I wonder how this will be applied?
Would it be in a separate transaction being as this fee goes to eBay and not the private seller?

Was speaking to my husband about this and he said ‘don’t buyers already receive protection’, well yes, ‘then surely these are sellers fees’. Of course they are sellers fees disguised as ‘buyer protection’.

Absolutely agree. EBay bang on about it being. ‘Free to List’, no it ISNT! Not anymore, buyers have protection, they are trying to make this look appealing and new, it’s rubbish. Well they won’t be able to fool all the people all the time and many including me will jump ship!

Well as you have sold over £15,000 items as a private seller you have had a good run on ebay.

Me neither and everything I sell isn’t mine, I sell for others because for whatever reason they can’t/don’t do eBay. They have things they no longer want and wish to make some money by selling them. Most assume because you are a private seller that you are buying to sell, NOT always the case.

So many questions left unanswered for me. Do the buyers see the price BEFORE the mark up or do they just see the marked up price? If they don’t see the price and are then forced to pay more they probably won’t pay and will ask to cancel the order. If they see the marked up price they probably won’t buy as they will think it is too high. Does that make sense? I don’t use eBay to make loads of money. I am not greedy like some who price their items at so high it makes me laugh out loud!
Have tried to find the solutions to this but to be honest is easier to split an atom than to get answers from eBay about this is!

Didn’t sound quite clear, my last message. For example if I bid on something that is £1 with £2 postage, if I win at that price I am expecting to pay £3 total. When the invoice comes through it will be more than that and the higher price the item the more it will cost me! What would a lot of buyers do at this point, cancel the order or possibly leave neutral or negative feedback for the seller due to the higher cost, it’s NOT eBay who will have to suffer the flack, it is the sellers!

let’s face it reselling stuff you don’t want is great for resource use, and the platform offers both buyers and sellers an incredible reach to match up with each other now all over the world. That has to be worth something so fees are to be expected but they have been getting greedy for a long time and feel to me like a fundamentally dishonest business. Take for example the way they all but force you to use their extortionate
international exchange rates.
this is just their latest scam , just a shift around of fees wrapped in some misleading at best marketing claiming they are removing fees when in reality they’re just switching it about and I’m willing to bet in total their % will be calculated to go up.
this greed and dishonesty is exactly why they are so exposed to loosing market share to the likes of Vinted. All it needs is for someone to create a direct competitor who is fair and honest to its customers both buyers and sellers and ebay is at risk of collapsing in very short order!
surely the owners and founders already have more money than they can ever need in generations what is it with the modern leaning towards excessive greed for its own sake? Heaven know we don’t need any more of the likes of Elon!
Rant over I came here to try and understand the relationship between what I bid in an auction, what it shows on the screen as high bid and what I would pay ! How is it a billion dollar company can’t clearly explain something so simple and fundamental!
I can say with confidence they are another big step towards losing me as a customer, soon as there is a viable alternative I’m off for sure and cutting fees to try and get me back won’t work I much prefer to work with an organisation with some sense of morality.
Ebay wake up or your golden goose will be dead, what a shame!
