I knew eBay's generosity wouldn't last for long. I don't much care about the fees; I just wish they'd make up their minds and stop changing things around.
How will the new fees affect auction listings? Will auction listings be exempt ( I doubt it,) or will buyers need to pay more than what they bid? If so, I can foresee a lot of bidders refusing to pay when they they realise they need to pay more than they thought.

I did a partial refund on an item I sold with a buyers fee on it. The buyer did not get any of their buyer's fee back. It was only 10p so not a big issue on this occasion.
It might work when going through a case but clearly doesn't if the seller initiates the refund outside a case.
And it was not a postage discount where I would expect no buyers fee refund.

"It might work when going through a case but clearly doesn't if the seller initiates the refund outside a case."
You are correct,it doesn't work if it's done outside of a claim.

I see the Buyer Protection Fee has made an appearance on purchases today that I have not seen before. It emphasises two things:
1. How iniquitous this charge is for relatively low-priced items. I have just bought six items for a total of £20.10 and the Buyer Protection element of that was £4.92 - which constitutes almost a 25% seller's fee.
2. They have caused complete confusion with the implementation because when I look at the bidding history it shows the amount that went to the seller and not what I paid. Yet what I paid was my actual bid! This is aggravated in its confusion as a bid of £5.89 won with a bid increment of just 20p over the underbidder, because they work with the nett bid.
The second point also means your bidding tactics will need to vary according to whether it is a business or private seller as this nett bid treatment only occurs with private sellers.
It's a bad policy, badly implemented as well as being fundamentally dishonest as it offers no protection in practice as these collectable items can't be replaced if they go astray as they are unique.

I find the whole thing absolutely pathetic. I accepted offers (well I did, have decided to sell the rest of my stuff at cheap prices to get rid of it, no offers, than I am going to close my account), whilst I accepted offers due to the idiotic prices now that eBay are insisting on showing I receive stupidly numeric offers. Ridiculous, I used to sell quite a lot, now virtually nothing all because of the apparent Buyer Protection Fee, it’s a fee for the buyers eBay, NOT protection! It’s a way of eBay to boost their bank balance and they also hold onto your money now for some time, are they earning interest on the money they are holding onto for albeit a short period of time? No one likes this stupid decision they have made re fees, buyers complain, not to eBay but to the sellers! I have had enough of them moving the goalposts all the time, it won’t be long and I am off!

Thank you ebay.
I have had another buyer inform me that they wish to cancel their order (they have purchased 6 items) as they are disgusted that they are being told they will have to pay over £4.50 in buyers tax. That makes the 3 order I've lost since Buyer tax introduced
They need a more transparent system and at the very least make the BPF (75p) payable for an entire order rather than each individual item.
I've noticed that the BPF calculation is rather odd. It appears to be the sellers price (before BPF) - 75p x 1.04 (4%) + 75p x2. So items priced at less than 75p actually reduce the BPF 4% part. I have also started going back to the old way of having low prices and high postage as BPF is not applied to this.

Absolutely total agree, system no so stupid, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it unless you are EBay who do this ALL the time! Another thing to watch out for is if you send your item tracked (I do all the time now with new stupid system) you have to wait for your money even if the person has received it. Example, I send an item last Monday 3rd March, Royal Mail tracking says to be delivered on 5th March. Item received by buyer who left great feedback, Royal Mail tracking still says delivering on 5th March therefore NOT deemed as delivered when it was. Consequently I can’t have my money until either the tracking updated, thanks for that Royal Mail or 14 days has lapse from date I posted it! Absolutely unbelievable, yet another flaw in this useless new system!!!!

It's 14 days from buyer payment.

They paid on 2nd march, received on 5th, left feedback, notified me had received, I will still be waiting until 16 March for my money, pathetic system!

I already have been accused of putting up the price once her bid was finalised, this affected my feedback as she left neg feedback, accusing me of putting up the price, which we all know is not possible - NOT HAPPY

Buyers just don’t get it! It is making sellers look like the bad guys, we are not, we have no control over this ridiculous new system which apparently protects buyers. What a load of *bleep*e, they were already protected. You can appeal your negative feedback, just request and state it was ‘not under your control’ or whatever you can say.

Ebay are dragging private sellers through so much bleep! on account of their greed.
23-03-2025 8:03 PM
More buyers refusing to pay, if they do, mk ore negative feedback because they assume sellers aw being awkward. eBay move the goalposts more than anything I have known. They don't value private sellers in particular yet whenever you have to contact customer services they always say how they value your loyalty, yes well my loyalty period is about to expire you greedy people!
