How to sell antiques

Hi there,

I am selling a very old, heavy concrete lantern, which was given to me with no knowledge of It's history.

Usually with auctions houses, you can contact them to see if they can find out any information on the piece you are selling with them.

Is this true with Ebay? Can they advise you on the potential value of an antique?

There is no person at ebay that will advise on value, etc.  but you can look up the price of sold listings of similar items.   Go to My eBay and click on Advanced search, top right of page next to the blue search button.   Enter keyword, select Sold items and then click on Search.

No,you would have to do research and try to find identical items previously sold on here or elsewhere.You could maybe post pics here as other's have done in the hope that someone here might know more about it than you do.

Prices really vary on antiques. What I'm finding so difficult, is that it doesn't have any markings or brand name on it.

I will defiantly create a new thread and post some pics on here, now I know it's acceptable to do so.

Have you tried google images to see if you can find anything similar?

I find that is often a good starting point.

You could also take them to your local auction house for a valuation, may even find it easier to sell them there, though find out the cost it can be a high premium !  🙄

The answer to your question is no.  Simply take some pictures of your item and send them (email) to various auction houses who will give you a guide price and hopefully some details.

I would not sell it on line as you might be expected to help the buyer lift it into his car.  All of that said if it is made of concrete my guess is that it isn't worth very much at all.

Your best plan is to contact an Architectural Salvage Dealer and with this in mind get in touch with A&D Reclaim based in Clacton, close to you.

They can advise you and they may be interested in buying it.  See their wanted list.

It's a good idea, I did try. Although there are no distinct markings so it didn't bring up much to compare too.

Thank you. I did actually ask an auction house. They did offer a prediction. However, couldn't give me any information on the history of my piece, which made me a little nervous. Just incase I had a super special antique no-one had heard of LOL. I know that's so far-fetched, but I super careful. Maybe I will try asking few others, so I have something to compare it to.
