How does Simple Delivery returns work?

Hello! I just saw that one of my buyers requested a return and got an email saying that because it's simple delivery, they took care of the return and I was not charged for it. The buyer got back their money, and I kept my money too, although the product that I sold never came back to me.

"This order was processed through Simple Delivery, so we handled the return on your behalf. You don't need to take any action and you won't be charged for this refund."

How does this exactly work?

Did the item arrive damaged?

If so, you're covered:

Items are protected against loss or damage from the moment they are scanned into the carrier's delivery network until they are marked as delivered by the carrier. In the event that a buyer raises a claim for an issue that occurs during transit, you'll not be held responsible.

Surely ebay arent refunding for NAD or change of mind?

Re: How does Simple Delivery returns work?

Ebay will only be responsible for items lost or damaged in transit.  All other INAD's and Change of Mind returns will still be the responsibility of the seller.

Great that eBay are refunding quicker than an Evri or Royal Mail claim, but surely this is subject to mega abuse?

Re: How does Simple Delivery returns work?

Hmm.  If ebay *don't* check with the delivery companies that the non-deliveries/damages actually happened, I think they'll be some seller-buyer 'partnership' scams.....

I'd guess Ebay have possibly got in place a really fast claim checking arrangement? as part of their contracts with Simple Del 'partners' ?

They're bound to have hugely better terms with RM and Evri etc than us proles.!

Re: How does Simple Delivery returns work?

Hello! The item arrived and it was brand new and sealed. The buyer opened it and they tried to set it up, and 10 minutes later it stopped working, that's what they told me. I told them to try to follow the troubleshooting steps for that product, and a day later, they initiated that return and got that message from eBay.

For reference, the price was £15.43

Re: How does Simple Delivery returns work?

What reason did they select when opening the return request?

Presumably, they must have used 'Item arrived damaged' for eBay to respond as they did.

Re: How does Simple Delivery returns work?

From memory arrived damaged is one of the first few reason to select on a return so it's easy to select without scrolling down.

This could be an issue for eBay as soon as people realise they can use a false reason to get a refund and keep the item if no checks are being made.

I guess they could monitor accounts and those buyers with multiple arrived damaged returns opened will be closed down or just change the order of return reasons so each reason must be read before selecting, but word will soon get out on how to abuse the system.

Re: How does Simple Delivery returns work?

I was thinking this and although im sure it will happen and some will try it most people out there are not out to defraud anyone. Ebay are gonna come down hard on serial abusers im sure and this will surely kill off the phone/MacBook fake address scammers in no time.

It has to be up to ebay to force sufficient delivery with no £1000 items being left on the doorstep or lose out at their own expense. Really is a massive benefit for people sending more expensive items if ebay are effectively taking responsibility once with the courier.

Yep, that's why I reckon they *must* have a better contract with deliverers than the rest of us!

Re: How does Simple Delivery returns work?

OK,

So I sold a faulty iPad that was cracked and I just got this message. SURELY the buyer hasn't claimed damage (that was clearly visible in listings) and got the iPad for free?!

Re: How does Simple Delivery returns work?

If you sold though Simple Delivery, you'll have kept your money.

If the buyer is ripping ebay off, that's ebay's problem.

But I think ebay will have some sort of system of keeping an eye on buyers who make claims and once they've gone over an (undisclosed) limit, they'll get dumped....

(ebay have obviously calculated that what they *make* on Simple Delivery outweighs what they *lose* on the occasional scammy buyer..)

Re: How does Simple Delivery returns work?

wonder how long e bay will think refunding the buyer and the seller keeping the money is a good commercial idea even with BPF.
