OK so listing some items tonight
good news first - even though Simple Delivery is now being pushed I can opt out to custom settings and select my standard shipping rates
bad news - I have to opt out of Simple Delivery every time I list even though I am listing similar items. Really?
This is from ebay itself: You can opt out of Simple Delivery when you're creating your listing by selecting Custom Postage from the delivery options. If you'd prefer not to use Simple Delivery at all in the future, you'll need to opt out each time this programme is recommended when you're creating listings.
I mean what does that last sentence mean anyway?

I recently sold a Porcelain Doll. The doll in her box weighed under 1kg. I listed allowing for 2 KG. After packing well over the top I admit ( but have to as if it breaks they wont pay for the damage) it is now weighing 2.6kg.
I have therefore bought a label which is more expensive than I charged for, as I'd rather add a stupid amount of packaging to give the doll a chance of arriving intact and pay the difference.
In the new world of Simple Delivery, do I risk less packaging, send it and hope for the best , or change all my listings allowing for very worse case scenario and send my parcels with incorrect parcel categories. ( ie pay for a 5kg cabin parcel, when it ends up an under 2kg Shoe box, potentially losing out on sales and receiving poor value feedback for delivery charges. I dont feel there is a scenario where anyone wins.
This morning I sent a pair of boots. Had charged for 2kg Tracked 48. I couldnt find a box that fit Royal Mails small parcel sizings and couldnt send it via Evri as it was above the £25 compensation rule. I ended up paying for a medium parcel with RM and sucked it up. How will this work in simple delivery world? I dont have a stock of correct size boxes, just have to use what I can find.

Best to accept their guess, then you have full insurance coverage and even if it's over weight the courier should charge the overage to eBay, not you. Unless you override it, in which case you get billed for the mistake.

Best to go with their recommendation then , let them foot the bill if they get it wrong

Has anybody had any real experiences, under Simple Delivery
I am only looking for experiences, negative or positive, that have actually been under Simple Delivery, not old historical events
Please no they could, they will, they are allowed to
I am trying to judge if they have honoured these agreements as nowhere else can I find any indication that they have not honoured them

I have had several incorrect labels now, and the 'Just let Ebay pay the extra' doesn't work.
Firstly no one has told the local Post Offices. My experience has been if the parcel is incorrect in any way they reject it. So you have the option to go back home and ring Ebay to try and sort if out, all the time delaying delivery to the customer, and payment to yourself. Or do what I have done which is buy a 2nd label at the Post Office and potentially write off the cost of the 1st one.
Secondly on the one occasion I did ring Ebay they blamed me for not checking the Ebay guess.

My partner had a similar problem and ebay told him to tell the buyer to cancel the label ,then for my partner to go to post office and get a royal mail label there and then ask the buyer to reimburse him for the RM label .I am sure buyers will love this. NOT .

In any of your "several incorrect labels" was it Ebay who asked for more money rather than third parties such as Royal Mail or Post Office etc.

It wax the couriers who would not take the parcels. The didn't want more money. The only way they would accept the goods was with a whole new label at the correct price.
Also Ebay will not allow you to pay a bit more to upgrade the label. Their only solution was for me to cancel the sales.

It simply gets worse doesn’t it, nice to be a bystander and not in the middle of this shenanigans any longer.

Thank you for that information, it helps a lot.
I can see any failure by Royal Mail and Post Office must have been very upsetting but also that Ebay did not blame you and demand you pay them more.
Where I drop off my parcels they fully understand the Marketplace Seller system and so rightly do not care about size and weight, so my problems are very different to yours.

Even the courier companies are sending out warning messages now. Which also seems to confirm my theory that eBay are trying to kill off private sellers and force people on to expensive business accounts.

Ebay said it would not be possible to opt out of Simple Delivery after April 15th, but (fingers crossed) it looks like they have backed down after the volume of complaints and it is now back as an option using "switch to advanced options" then "custom postage". As Simple Delivery is still the default you have to do this individually for every listing. If you are a Private Seller and wish to offer combined postage for multiple items Simple Delivery will not provide this, so switch to "custom postage"

That might still be true for you. It isn’t true for every private seller and many are now on SD only. I have not been able to do as you suggest since late on the 14th - the the day before the official application of it.
There has been no backing down on eBay’s part at all, its a slow roll out, which is the way BPF happened.

They have said SD is still rolling out gradually - however I've seen two different dates being given as deadlines for rollout - think they were 26th and 28th - not sure where these originated?
I'll end the rest of my listings when it becomes enforced !
I've already moved 800 ish listings away and only add one at a time daily to see if it still works as a test.
Also - I will not buy here either until things change!

Whilst using sell similar, I do not get opting out box.
Wht is the solution.

At this point in the proceedings I think the solutions are to reconcile yourself to using SD, open a business account or stop selling.
There will be no workaround for private accounts going forward, unless all you sell is letter sized and under £10 and 100g (or very large/heavy).

look for "Switched to advance options" in the postage then select "custom postage"

actually I think Ebay may have backed down and the "Switch to advance options" is active again
