Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

OK so listing some items tonight

good news first - even though Simple Delivery is now being pushed I can opt out to custom settings and select my standard shipping rates

bad news - I have to opt out of Simple Delivery every time I list even though I am listing similar items. Really?

This is from ebay itself:  You can opt out of Simple Delivery when you're creating your listing by selecting Custom Postage from the delivery options. If you'd prefer not to use Simple Delivery at all in the future, you'll need to opt out each time this programme is recommended when you're creating listings.

I mean what does that last sentence mean anyway?

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

With Royal Mail collection don’t they provide the label when they come to pick up the parcel?

I’ve never used this service so just wondered

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

Simple Delivery seems like an absolute joke! I sell old magazine adverts, for a standard price of £5.00 plus either £1.25 or £2.25 postage and packing, depending on the size. These come from a large collection of old magazines I have bought over many years. I have to pay for the card-backed envelopes and pvc liners to send them in, which is included in this price. The lower of the two P&P's currently include a £0.85 stamp. I have sold hundreds of adverts and accept that maybe one in a hundred will go astray and refund the buyer and claim the postage back off the Royal Mail.

When I tried to revise the listing, the lowest postage option was £2.74! This is simply not needed for a 35 gram Letter size item. On this basis I would have to increase the price of my adverts, to include the card-backed envelope and sleeve and the total to the buyer would amount to around £8 instead of £6.25, plus their uneccessary Buyer Protection Fee of £0.92. It also looks like offering combined postage will be an issue. So in a few months my £6.25 adverts will have risen to nearly £9 and I will not be benefitting from the rise and no doubt see a great reduction in the number of sales.  this seems like eBay profiteering at its finest!

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

After 15 April You will be able to opt out of simple delivery and use custom postage for light items

under 100g that fit in an envelope (confirmed by customer services and Kat from eBay here on these boards)

you still can today use the old system by clicking on collection only then straight back to postage only then chose your own postage

but on the 7th eBay are going to change everyone’s listings and convert them to simple delivery…well have to check what they’ve done because I’m sure it’s going to be utter mayhem

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

Thanks. It will be a nightmare if I have to adjust 300+ listings and cannot do it in bulk. I'll probably just say goodbye to eBay!

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

Right are they imposing Simple Delivery on to existing listing or not ? as two info pages from ebay says both ? and 90min on hold to tec services was to long to wait for a reply ?

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

now been told items of £10 or less will not have to go by Simple Delivery !  if true one + ,Simple Delivery prices are not right (more money)  & still can not see where   Save 20% off postage costs will be ?   you would thing they would sort all this out and inform us all  before sending  emails & info pages that are contradictory but this is Ebay and can not thing of any time when they have reviewed any thing before dumping it on us or ever listened to anything we say ?

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

The exclusions at the moment are

parcels larger than 61 x 46 x 46 cm or over 20kg

letters under 100g AND less than £10 so not all items under £10

Items with Authenticity Guarantee

and Items in categories that are comprised exclusively of prohibited items

Of course this could change as Simple Delivery settles in

When I hear more, you'll hear more

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

 says

Do I need to do anything with my current listings?

Starting from 7 April, Simple Delivery will apply to your existing live listings that are eligible, so you can enjoy more protections and benefits. If you selected buyer-paid postage, this will stay the same when your listings are updated. If you’re covering the costs, they’ll be deducted from your sales. Please note that in both cases, the costs may change.  but on the same page

&

Do I need to do anything to my current listings?

Simple Delivery will automatically apply to all new eligible listings. Your existing listings will not be affected.

so which is it ?

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

With eBay it's prudence to expect/plan for the worse so if they say 2 contrary things, consider which will be the worst for you and best for them and that's probably the real answer.

Until they find something better for them.

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

Yeah I am guessing the 1st one.

What they are going to do with the hundreds of thousands of live listings that are currently too small or too big (over 41cm) for the new system, God Knows.
