I have not had any discounts on sellers fees since February, yet friends and family are still receiving them. Is anyone having the same experience?

I am wondering if others contact them will they get the same response 😁

I hear what you are saying BUT we find that the vast majority of our sales are when they are not listed under a promotion.

I spoke to eBay Support and got this response:
'From time-to-time eBay reviews our ongoing promotional campaigns and may decide to suspend, change, or cancel them at any time. We have taken the decision not to offer promotions over the weekend of the 20th-22nd September 2024.'
Hmm..
That is handy to know and will pass that onto others save them waiting for a promotion which seemingly, is not going to appear today.
As you say Hmmm,, so still worth checking that promotional offer section perhaps !

There is no 'it should have been' at all. The promotions are something that e bay do (however 'randomly' they select people for it). It is not an entitlement or part of their contract with you. It is something that is a promotion. Just be grateful that you have been having it up until now, i certainly am. I list my items regardless of whether i have it or not, if i pay a normal fee then so be it. Apparently they have suspended it for this weekend and has someone else has said it will be because of the change over from 1000 to 300 free listings. Just hope that you are one of the ones who get it when it returns (if!!)

They say it is random, but when you have been offered it every fortnight for years, that doesn't feel random, they just use that as an excuse when they mess up, or somebody underperforms and doesn't get it; it isnt random.
Thats great you are happy to burn 13% on your items, but when you had a particular weekend in mind, especially with expensive items, its just too much for me to lose, when I am used to 80% off that consistently.
20-09-2024 8:51 AM
The reason I said hmm is they will not confirm if the promotion is officially over, I literally cannot remember the last time in months/years this was not offered (to me, friends etc), so my 'hmmm' was maybe this is the end of 80% off and a new direction for eBay, not sure.
20-09-2024 8:56 AM
Then, that's an ' understandable' hmmm, and one no one can answer, as eBay would never reveal if those promos are to stay , to go, or this is just a break.
It's a wait and see !😶

I remember one other time back in January this year where it wasn't running - other than that it's been offered every week without fail.
Possibly time to start looking elsewhere 🙂

Ok but just be grateful for all the fees you have saved by selling under a promotion. If its ended then so be it......thats the way i look at it.

These are my thoughts generally and not directed at anyone in particular.
IF these promotions have stopped then it will weed out the fake "private sellers" even more which i think may well be a good thing. I bet the genuine Business Sellers would (quite rightly) be very happy with this move 🙂
It also makes me laugh when a so called private seller takes a picture for their listings......they really should be more aware of what is actually shown in the background.

Your 'placeholder' listings are against ebay policy, but then you probably know that, and also about the other policies and laws you are breaking.
You are not, and never were, entitled to these promotions that have allowed you to undercurrent properly registered business sellers.
20-09-2024 9:31 AM
Yeah I think so, but often what starts as a clear out, or maybe flipping one or two items, can turn into a business quickly, some private sellers are not all out to cheat the 80% deal and eBay clock onto this anyway and make you turn into a business page anyway, they are not that stupid.
My Business page is hit with rough fees, it isnt huge like some of the mega sellers, if you are not in the top tier of selling, you do not get their 10% discount, so it is good whilst that is around, but otherwise, i still think business fees should be lower...

If you read the boards regularly lots of members have reported others who are so blatantly business sellers pretending to be private......eg thousands of items for sale and multiples of the same item. Ebay do nothing. Some even say they are a family business.
My view again is.......if you are paying fees (whether reduced or not) at least your items are selling 🙂
Maybe because i am a genuine private seller who does not rely on any income from this site......i can be a bit more matter of fact about things.

They will eventually get pulled up on that, I've seen it time and time again, but whatever.
Right so if eBay put their fees to 50%, you would be okay, as your item is still selling? Where does it end? They are crazy high and im not surprised people look for alternatives, especially if you're selling a watch or some jewellery that was passed down to you
20-09-2024 9:45 AM
Ok....well 99% of the items we list are inherited. Yes we could list gold/jewellery items for thousands but choose not to because hubby and i do not personally consider this to be a safe place to sell such items (another discussion)
Currently there are not really many/if any alternative sites to Ebay that have the same footfall etc
IF we feel fees get wayyyyyyyyyy to high then we would consider stop using the site. The current fees for us are tolerable. I guess it depends on ones circumstances whether Ebay works for someone or not.

I honestly cannot comment in depth on the fees Business Sellers get charged....but generally to me they do seem high. Saying that are they cheaper on other sites that are actually comparable to Ebay?
20-09-2024 10:22 AM
I think it will be due to the increase in used iphone sales this weekend as the IP16 is launched. Its possible it will be back next week or the week after.
20-09-2024 10:23 AM
It depends what you call comparable, as a buyer you are incredibly well protected, especially with authenticity guarantee, ebay guarantee etc
As a seller, not only are the fees very high, but the protection really isn't in your favour. However, they have a reach of 20 million customers or something, which is of course advantageous. Facebook Marketplace is riddled with scams, but if you can build a business on there (as I have), it can be very lucrative, with 0% fees, but not quite the reach.

I think it could be, butApple/ iphone launches and resales are not what they once were; the premiums on them from Iphone 10 and below were huge, but not anymore. Who knows to be honest, just frustrating when you had it all planned out for the weekend!

"Just be grateful..."
Sure, be grateful for every time ebay finds a new way to hike the fees. Be grateful for every time a buyer screws you over with no effort by ebay to protect the seller. Be grateful for a site with so many bugs and glitches, but a team of so-called developers who spend their time changing pages that work ok and breaking them. Be grateful for Packlink, that gets such a bad rep? Be grateful for estimated delivery dates that need time travel to achieve...
Brainwashing is alive and well in the western world.
