I'm trying to add a Google Translate button via HTML on my listings so overseas buyers can automatically translate the UK description into their chosen language - ebay saying its active content and automatically removes it - has anyone managed to get a translation button active?

Only some basic HTML is allowed within listing descriptions. Fairly sure what you are after won't be feasible.
On desktop at least - I'd imagine the customer could do this in browser anyway (I've just checked in the ebay app on iPhone and the user can translate via the iOS interface as well)

You can't. Such a button would require including a JavaScript function that calls a script from the Google Translate API - neither JavaScript nor the external API call to Google is permitted.
To be honest I don't think it's necessary. Most browsers automatically offer to translate content that is not in the user's native language.

I had a message from an overseas buyer the other day and noticed that it had been translated by Ebay . This must be quite new as I have always had to use google translate before.
Maybe it hasn't filtered through to listings yet.
