Global shipping program prices have jumped and are unrealistic.

For some reason I am getting US buyers complaining that the GSP prices have jumped and are silly. 2 Teddy bears to the US one selling around £60 - GSP charging £26.28, the 2nd bear selling at £125 - GSP charging £73.09. Both of them are small enough to go in a small parcel less than 1Kg but I cannot input this information into the listing so prices are being incorrectly guessed.

Rather do GSP than ordinary tracked to the USA . Just had one come back to me after 3 months. Another one also Apparently the USA post office said it was delivered then backtracked and said it was lost somewhere got eBay involved with it. They sent her a refund.

Only for her to come back to me and say she wanted a “freebie” and no charge for posting.

I've always found GSP prices to be so ludicrous that I wouldn't know if they had changed from one crazy number to another. Having said that I do sell things via GSP to ensure all the taxes and declarations are paid  properly so there must be some buyers willing to pay it.

Re: Global shipping program prices have jumped and are unrealistic.

There was a thread about this in Discussion 'Postage' section, in February:-

Massive jump in price for GSP orders to the USA (from UK)

It was supposed to be a glitch which had been sorted, but maybe not?!

Sure it's only 10% for the UK tho. That said its probably 10% off before ebay take their fees. They like to do that.

From the article it sounds like this is to cover the possibility that the item is made in China and so not eligible for the de minimis duty exemption.

"it appears that since the Global Shipping Program includes the import charges at checkout, eBay is defaulting to no de minimis exemption on items where the seller has not designated a specific Country of Origin."

So that sounds like if you fill in the "Country / Region of manufacture" item specific that that may change the GSP shipping price?

@caddyscane  now that the US has ended the de minimis exemption for goods which are made in China and Hong Kong, packages shipped via UPS, DHL and FedEx are subject to a baseline 145% tariff, plus any additional product-specific tariffs, and goods shipped through international postal systems will be subject to a baseline 120% tariff or a flat $100 fee per postal item - and that flat fee will increase to $200 on June 1.

eBay hasn't made an official statement about the GSP pricing yet, but most examples I've seen so far here and in the US eBay community forum are items that either are made in China or do not have a country of origin listed in the item specifics.

Since GSP is a service which charges the import fees to the buyer upfront, eBay has to be able to calculate those fees at checkout and it appears they may be defaulting to assume the worst case scenario if Country of Origin is unknown.

Re: Global shipping program prices have jumped and are unrealistic.

I have never been good with percentages but last month I sold a book which I listed as country of origin United Kingdom.  It sold for £59.99 and went to the US by GSP.  The postage came to £37.31 and Sales Tax (ebay collected) was £7.68 making a total of £104.98.

Also last month I sold an LP to Germany via GSP.   Listed as made in the United Kingdom.  The LP was £21.99.  Postage £13.83 and import charges £8.97 making a total of £44.79.   The charges made the LP double the price.

Both of those seem excessive to me.

Re: Global shipping program prices have jumped and are unrealistic.

Thank you all for your comments and help. I have tried different countries of origin which seemed to make no difference, so then I tried listing it under different categories and that does. My using a different categories it removed about 15% so it looks to be the tariffs and Ebay GSP making up numbers that is the main problem.

Re: Global shipping program prices have jumped and are unrealistic.

Hi, I was seeing the same thing and had U.S. buyers querying the sudden huge hike in GSP shipping fees this past week. I called Customer Services yesterday and they just explained that it was the carriers who set the shipping prices, not ebay. I argued that it didn't make sense as the high fees (even if they included duties) were being applied to listings that were being sold for under $800/£600, weren't even made in China or Hong Kong, and the correct (e.g. European) country had been entered into the Item Specifics/Country of Manufacture box. And in any case, nothing was being made clear to buyers or sellers what was actually going on. Why were we not being informed and advised what to say to reassure our buyers? Trying to keep up with what Trump is ordering next in the news is confusing enough! Other sellers must have called CS to complain, too, because on ebay.com today GSP shipping fees to the U.S. appear to be back to 'normal', but import fees are now being displayed separately on listings being sold for over £70 – at least that's what I'm seeing. Separate is better, as it makes things clearer for buyers regarding up-front/total costs, but I'm guessing Trump's (2nd May) tariffs order means that duties are already being applied to all such listings, regardless of their country of manufacture – not just those made in China or Hong Kong? And to top it off, U.S. duties go up AGAIN on 1st June. Hurrah 😞

Thanks, I saw that the other day and GSP has since been paused completely and  ‘temporarily’ for USA.
