Global Shipping to the USA

Can somebody please explain what is happening with Global Shipping to the USA?

From what I can gather (and I may be mistaken,) items priced under ~£25 are elibigble to be shipped to the USA, while items above ~£25 are not. And there's no way for me to offer my own international shipping because "Simple Delivery" is compulsory for most categories.

Is there any way around this or have I misuderstood something?

From August 29th orders coming into the US will be subject to an import fee, the de minimis exemption will be gone. 

Nobody knows exactly how much the tariffs on items from UK to the US will be, so I would expect the GSP to not be applied to US sales for months.

For six months, a temporary flat tariff (ranging from $80 to $200, depending on the item's origin) may apply to postal shipments, so I can't see many sales being made to the US even if you set your own international postage price and method.
