Hi,
I've been using eBay for 24 years now and I have never had a 'Funds pending – awaiting delivery' show on any sale.
For some reason this has shown on three items I have sold over the past couple of days, when everything else I have sold over the past couple of months has been fine and payment has arrived as usual.
These are physical items, not digital, and I've been selling for 24 years, so why all of a sudden is this a thing?
thanks
Sam

That is incorrect. I posted two parcels on the 7th and both were marked funds pending delivery, one was delivered today (10th) and is now marked 'funds pending in e bay balance on 12th'. the second item has not been delivered yet. I only use normal second class post and do not pay for tracking, i just put in the tracking number from the receipt.

same here, i have just wasted a couple of minutes of my life writing the same thing!! I should really read all the comments before responding to any of them...

Genuine private sellers obviously contribute enough for the greed of eBay.
With eBay it's run by scrupulous people that are only interested in giving less to the consumer and increasing their profit margin more and more and more - They have no principle, no boundaries and they do not draw the line - They are motivated by share GREED ! only...

They want to do as little as possible and make as much as possible.
Then automate as much as they can so that private sellers have less control of their choices.

I go into the post office to post my parcels and always get given a certificate of posting with a reference number which i then put into e bay tracking. Then depending on how efficient the delivering postie is it then comes up as being delivered - on my order. I only pay for tracking for higher valued items, certainly not paying it (or expecting buyers) to pay it for cheapo stuff. If i lose an item (never have done so far, crossed fingers) then i lose a few pounds.

they are still paying out in two days though, i do the same as you and the one i posted a couple of days ago was delivered today and i am getting the payment on the 12th, so the certificate of posting reference number is treated the same as paid for tracking. Why not, after all if RM say it has been delivered how does it matter whether it was paid or unpaid tracking. As for SD one of the many reasons i will not be doing it is because i will not be expecting buyers to pay for tracking for something worth a couple of quid! Which is why i also will not be buying on this site unless it is an item that i really really want and cannot find anywhere else.

I sell signed items from my own collection and only charge what RM charge me for postage which is 2.70
This might not be popular with all buyers but it protects me as a seller and protects buyers too.

I agree, at the moment they are paying out a couple of days after delivery by 2nd Class. My point is that when SD is fully operational and ebay drawing-up the list of options that buyers can choose from, will ebay just decide that RM isn't 'appropriate' because it isn't fully tracked or possibly even more likely that it isn't quick enough for ebay's "Get it there tomorrow" EDDs.
They've been telling my buyers for over a year that their purchases should be delivered the day after purchase or the next day in an effort to frighten me into sending by a more expensive guaranteed delivery service. With SD up and running ebay won't have to cajole or brow-beat, they will decide what is "appropriate" and even "convenient" for buyers to choose from. All I'm supposed to do is shout "Yes Sir" and run to the post office.
Sorry ebay, I organise my selling the way I do because my buyers seem to like the way I do it. I'm not employed by ebay to maximise their profits by inflating my P&P charges un-necessarily to my buyers. But would I even be allowed to send parcels 2nd class if ebay decides not to include it on their list of choices?

I honestly believe this is ebays attempt to gain full control over ebay private sellers.
They want to decide who, what, why, when, and cost.

I honestly believe you're 100% right.
eBay the anti-private seller platform which keeps on moving the goal posts whenever it suits them... in their interest of course !

Ebay are doing what they can to inconvenience private sellers because we are the small fish that don't allow them to make as much money as they want so now they are introducing useless new policies to try gaining total control over private sellers.

I have to dis-agree with you 🙂. IMO ebay has known for years that the reason for its early success and continued prosperity has been its army of private sellers. As private sellers have been telling them for years "Private sellers are also buyers". Something the CEO at last acknowledged recently by saying he had evidence that "Buyers who also sell tend to buy twice as much as buyers who don't sell."
But ebay has been looking at the spectacular success of amazon with its mostly business seller model and tried to emulate it by encouraging business sellers and ignoring the consequences of moving ebay towards that model, making ebay less welcoming (or even useful) to private sellers.
That's why, over those same years, ebay has rolled out increasingly generous terms for private sellers in an effort to keep the numbers up. From an occasional Free Listing Week End to Maximum £1 FVF Week Ends that became monthly. From 20(?) free listings a month to so many it became effectively Free to List and then the 70 / 80 % off FVFs.
All done as ebay became aware the the never ending queue of hopeful private sellers was getting shorter and they were not coming aboard at a rate that balanced and supported the growing number of business recruits. The result was too many businesses trying to make a profit from a declining number of private sellers / buyers. Then came FB Market and the other Free to Sell sites and someone at ebay hit the panic button so now ebay is Free to Sell for private sellers.
But not really, ebay thinks it can get away with another round of subterfuge with seller fees moved to buyers and knowing that the search is now totally biased towards Sponsored Listings, private sellers won't sell much without paying Sponsorship Fees. With ebay making money on their funds on Hold and whatever it can squeeze out of delivery companies.
Personally I can't see any of the above turning the ebay ship around before it hits the rocks. Ebay has, over the years, ruined its reputation with millions of private sellers, who all have family, friends and Social Media. Will they rush back to ebay after being badly treated the first-time around ?
With ebay now biased heavily towards business sellers and their needs and a search that prioritises Sponsored Listings to give visibility to, the new Free to Sell intake still stand little chance of selling enough to make them long-term, loyal sellers / buyers on ebay. IMO for many of them, listing a few items, few of which sell (even for an opening bid), waiting a week or two for the disappointing pay-out (that's if they're not scammed out of it by a false INA claim) and that will be enough.
So ebay will be back to square one again. Private sellers sick of a site that no longer works for them and leaving in droves. With the BSB sprouting its monthly crop of "Sales off a cliff in January / February / March / April etc. To me it's pointless trying to overlay Free to Sell on todays ebay. If ebay wants enough private sellers to support its businesses, it needs to look back to when it did attract them in huge numbers and why they came here.
It certainly wasn't to always be at the back of the queue for visibility. It wasn't to give their stuff away for next-to-nothing to the flocks of 'Watching' vultures. It wasn't to have their funds put on Hold because there's a comma in the wrong place in their address. Or for their buyers to be told that they need protection from them. What ebay needs to do is make itself useful to them again and start working for them, not treat them as a never ending resource that works for ebay's benefit but can otherwise be ignored.

That deserves a round of applause.
A very impressive post.

Im having this too. I sold and sent a package the other day via 1st class, i know it arrived as the buyer left a positive feedback but on ebay its showing as not delivered does that mean i wont be getting my payment for the item i sold ???
11-02-2025 10:08 AM
It's more likely that eBay will use it as an excuse to pay you 14 days later. They like your money more than you do.

If you're now having to rely on eBay's dopey tracking to update (if at all) then you're in for a very long wait of up to 14 days providing your buyer is happy and doesn't change their mind in the meantime...
Of course if you send anything by ParcelForce you can forget any updates on eBay's tracking, even if ParcelFoce say it's been delivered on their live tracking site as eBay's half wit tracking system does not seem to update when ParcelForce delivery is used and eBay don't seem to care or address this issue which was raised on these forums in 2022/23...
Anyway, Hope you get your money soon.

That's a great post.
My big gripe though is ebay getting rid of things that worked well so they could squeeze and control as much as possible.
They got rid of paypal managing payments which worked great but ebay wanted to control that.
They got rid of fees which made selling very transparent but like you say they are doing different things to gain extra money from both buyers and sellers.
Yes I do use RM 48hr Tracked but only because it gives me and buyers protection.
I only charge what RM charge me for postage which is 2.70
All packaging costs I take care of. Plus for the 2.70 RM collect from me and bring the printed label.
SD should not be made compulsory. If ebay want to create a frame to work within then fine. But like you I like to choose what works best for me and people who buy from me.
Changing things regularly isn't the most helpful thing to do.

100% correct. Ebay will also love the postmen who don't scan items when delivering. And of course international sales where tracking does not exist with standard Royal Mail items, so that's another excuse to keep YOUR cash for at least 14 days. Only listed 3 cheap items in the past week as I really can't be bothered anymore.
11-02-2025 1:20 PM
I absolutely agree.
I've sold and posted 2 items to the same buyer yesterday.
One package is on its way to the delivery office. The second package according to tracking hasn't even moved from the collection office.
This will make things interesting.

Contacting RM Customer service clarifies things.
Sometimes RM do spot checks on random packages to check size and weight to make sure items are correct.
This can cause delays in tracking updates sometimes.
RM customer services have more information than what shows up on tracking and can clarify the true status.
