I sold a few items on eBay recently and when making the auction I selected the postage options and it gave me an estimate for the postage costs which is what I charged to the buyer's. Now when I go to buy the postage label, I noticed that yodel/evri have hiked their prices up to almost double what they estimated originally.
I'm going to have to send them through a different courier which is annoying because it's not the one the buyer selected but what else can I do? Royal Mail are the only courier that haven't hiked the prices up so I'll go with them instead.
Has anyone else had the prices hiked up like this for no apparent reason? Is this a common tactic with the courier companies to try and make more money or have I just been unlucky? I think in the future to avoid this problem I'll just select Royal Mail, at least they are consistent with their prices, and I've never had a postman put my parcel in a dirty bin (unlike Evri).

@maryloo1968 wrote:Seems Yodel have hiked their price today (6th December 2024) from £2.25 +VAT to £4.25 +VAT....I hope its just a festive season thing as that is a massive hike and makes RM the only reasonable delivery service now....real shame.
No they haven't! It's still the same price. Presumably your item was going to one of their 'remote' postcodes?
If your buyer agrees, you can send via RM, who deliver to the whole country for one price.
(In future you can use rate tables on ebay so that if your buyer is in a remote area, they will see the higher charge).
Location Charge Postcodes | Delivery to Remote Locations | Evri
Postage preferences (Use postage rate tables)

Well yes, could understand that but this parcel (and this is not on Ebay, it's on their website as a quote) is going from London to Maidenhead in Berkshire. So that doesn't ring true but thank you!!!
I'll check their site again this morning to see if it was like Uber loading at busy times....but I did check several times and it was remained at £4.50+VAT.
Thanks for the heads up though.

They definitely have. The same buyer, same location as previously, and now double to post.

It's not for everyone, though. Still normal prices for me - and their price list on their website still shows normal prices.
Courier collection is £4 odd. Are you using that?

Doh! I obviously didn't have enough coffee yesterday. This is Yodel, which you both mentioned, I was talking about Evri - which nobody mentioned!
Apologies to you both, and anyone else I confused.
As someone else said, this may be down to the issues they have at the moment. Bit of a cheeky way to try and reduce traffic, though!

Yes, same for me, Yodel prices on their site are at least double what I was paying a week ago, plus they're only offeringmethe more expensive 'store to store' option, no 'store to door'. And on Packlink today it just says 'Yodel is experiencing difficulties', it doesn't even try to offer the outrageous price hike!
Really frustrating as I had loads of issues with Royal Mail Tracked 48 parcels going missing a few months ago, so changed most of my listings to Yodel 😞 I guess this is what we get for developing a commercial model that's so dependent on postal delivery rather than shopping on the high street!
