Ebay simple delivery opt out

So ebay have decided to force private sellers to use simple delivery for all listings.

Previously you could select advanced options in postage and select your preferred postage method  as before.

Did ebay announce this to private sellers - did they ....

I searched around a while and eventually got this from the chat bot:

"Eligible listings will show Simple Delivery as an option when you're creating a listing. Starting 15 April, 2025, Simple Delivery will be the only delivery method available for private sellers when listing eligible items."

The recent changes like BPF and simple delivery have been extremely irritating but not terminal. I think this is terminal for me.

I cannot express on this forum without getting deleted my extreme annoyance with ebay.

Ebay simple delivery opt out

Had to cancel another sale yesterday. As an item I previously had up for sale with £4.99 p+p had been amended to a 2kg package by eBay's not so 'Simple Delivery'. The item was in the loft and I didn't want to go up there especially and dig it out to weigh it, nor do I have the time to do that with all the other items I've already put on the site. The item was fractionally over 2kg so I couldn't use the label from 'Simple Delivery'. Ebay's advice was to cancel the sale and message the seller to re-purchase with a label that covers the correct weight. This now jumps up to a 10kg parcel. Previously I'd have been happy enough to contribute to the label myself to ensure of the sale. How can this be seen as being good practice? It's absolutely pathetic. In addition to this the purchaser wasn't happy as they'd used a cashback site and had now missed out on £20 apparently through the cancelled sale. Fortunately they did still re-purchase the item as it was priced rather competitively. It shows how much Ebay must be making off using these couriers to put up with this trash!!!

I also hate these new buyer protection fees. In the past I'd wait until they advertised the 80 percent off selling fees and be organised for those. It was far easier to set prices against other listings and it looked much tidier than something being priced at £28.56 for example. I've found it has hindered my sales quite a bit as I'd only list when the promotions were on and Ebays slice of the pie is now far bigger for myself personally. Ebay is going downhill here at a rate of knots.

If ebay had chosen the 2kg postage band, the label was valid even if the package was over 2kg, as long as it was under the carriers maximum e.g. for Royal Mail.

  • Weighs up to 20kg
  • Dimensions should not exceed 61cm x 46cm x 46cm

(If you chose the 2kg postage band, ebay may charge you the difference plus £1.)

I'm not so sure. Greed blinds people.

I tried moving one of my items to different categories, but it made no difference to Stupid Delivery.

Only now the Delivery option is blank, not even showing worldwide delivery options, it just has the heading Delivery, then nothing.

On the view item it shows delivery as £3.38 Standard Tracked Delivery. This is a large letter item and I am unable to change it as there are no options.

Tried to contact eBay, but only want the chat option, as I have trouble understanding those on the phone, it says chat with agent - closed.

I think I will take the item down and start again.

'The item was fractionally over 2kg so I couldn't use the label from 'Simple Delivery'. Ebay's advice was to cancel the sale and message the seller to re-purchase with a label that covers the correct weight.'

As mentioned, as long as your parcel was under the carriers maximum weight/size, the Simple Delivery label you were given would have been ok to use - so I don't think you should have been told to cancel the sale.

There is still a lot of confusion about how Simple Delivery works, and lots sellers have cancelled sales because they think the label is incorrect... however, Simple Delivery 'approximates' the postage for the item, so even if you have been given a label with a lighter weight, it is ok to use it.

It is not how we are used to buying postage - but unfortunately, it looks like we're stuck with it...

Just to update, I ended the listing. Added a new one using the sell similar, to save time.

The delivery options were on display so I selected the large letter and set my worldwide postage charges and saved. Checked it and all was good.

Just to double check I selected the Revise item option and once again all the delivery information was not displayed. Not even the worldwide options.

Has anyone else had this, where all the delivery options are not displayed or is it just me.

I am old now 😀

Others have been reporting the same all morning,  you are not alone!  A member reported it to Customer Services,  who said they'd pass it on immediately to the IT department.  🤔 Hmmm!

The weekly chat  with Community managers starts in a few minutes at 2 p.m. run the question there,  see if eBay are aware and dealing with it...  hopefully !

I went on the forum and the invisible delivery section has been noted, many people have this issue. They are looking into it but do not know when it will be fixed.

Yep  I've been directing many onto that chat,   and thankfully we now know it is a tech issue,  it has been noted, and as per norm....  ' no time / date of a fix yet announced' 🤗, but at least they're working on it!

I also put in a query about issues with Stupid Delivery on the Community Forum, but no one replied to it.

Yes, it's been like that for while. Whenever I go to update an item with custom postage my selected postage is no longer shown. I have to 'Add additional Postage' and as soon as you click the original postage reappears in the background behind the pop up window. So you can just cancel the pop up and carry on.

Yes, I have seen that one and as you say it does reappear.

However, this is different as it shows no information at all just the delivery heading.

This is ridiculous, my item weight is 89 grams and large letter size, if I would send by self cost £1,55 but "simply delivery" by ebay... £2,72 why?

Exactly, it picks 48 hour delivery, not 2nd class.

I had some photos on sale as auction and they came up for relisting. When relisting them some were moved over to Stupid Delivery and some were not. This was because they were in different categories.

What I don't understand is what difference does it make what categories they are in. It is not what you are selling it's the size of the item you are selling. All my items are the same size and would have been sent at £1.55 large letter. Now some are £1.55 large letter and the others are Stupid delivery at £2.72.

If I were a buyer looking at these items I would wonder why the postage is so different.

When will eBay understand that it's the size that counts, not the category.
