So ebay have decided to force private sellers to use simple delivery for all listings.
Previously you could select advanced options in postage and select your preferred postage method as before.
Did ebay announce this to private sellers - did they ....
I searched around a while and eventually got this from the chat bot:
"Eligible listings will show Simple Delivery as an option when you're creating a listing. Starting 15 April, 2025, Simple Delivery will be the only delivery method available for private sellers when listing eligible items."
The recent changes like BPF and simple delivery have been extremely irritating but not terminal. I think this is terminal for me.
I cannot express on this forum without getting deleted my extreme annoyance with ebay.

'If it's about complaining, you need to go onto contact us and work your way through the options. At some point you'll be given a chance to connect to an agent'
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please don't bother complaining to human C.S agents about this.
They have *no* power to change anything.
The best they can do is agree with you and say they'll 'pass your comments on to the relevant dept'. ...which is what they've been told to say by the powers that be.
Human C.S. are already under huge pressure to help users try and work out *how* to use this awful system and solve the large number of problems it's causing.
We really need to leave C.S.'s time to those who have practical problems that may be able to be solved.
Corporate ebay *know* this is a wildy unpopular move with a large percentage of their existing private-seller base, but they don't care!
They'll have done their sums and worked out they still make more money through this, than they'll lose if all the bewlidered, angry and upset sellers leave.....
(personally I haven't sold anything since Dec, so I can deeply sympathise with the pee'd off section of sellers here!)

I think you're probably right Lucy, and there's no value in making life miserable for the CS staff. But I also think there is value in people continually adding to this thread, because there's a good chance someone, somewhere in eBay will be checking in every now and then and, if it all goes quiet, they'll conclude that the problem has disappeared. Like tinnitus, low level, continuous noise is bl**dy irritating and sometimes that's enough to keep the topic on the radar until someone decides it really does need to be addressed.
So, my addition for today is to question why on earth anyone would want to have EVRI tasked with delivering a 17cm x 13cm x 1cm letter-sized packet. If ever you wanted something lost in transit by EVRI, this would be it. Perfectly sized to fall down the cracks in the lorry or van, not a hope of ever being found. This week, for the first time ever, one of my customers has raised an 'item not received' case, thanks to SD deciding that, unlike both other identical packets sent to the customer via RM the previous week, that EVRI was the ideal choice this time. I expect I'll have to send out a free replacement, wiping out all profit.
My message to eBay would be this: yes, right now I'm a small, private seller that you may not care about, but by next year I'll probably become a formal business. Will I stick with you? Three months ago I'd have said that was almost certain. Now, not so much.

"I expect I'll have to send out a free replacement, wiping out all profit."
If it was sent Simple Delivery and scanned at some stage, you "won't" (shouldn't have to).

SInce the original post things have only got worse. From tomorrow private sellers lose the option to deselect one of the two Hobson's postage choices or suffer an exorbitant hike in postage fees. How is this even legal?

It must be illegal to force people to use a certain item or fine them if they don't.
It's like paying protection to a gang to keep you safe.
Only the gang is eBay and the protection is paid to not use Evri.
Royal mail has served me well in all my eBay sales, on the odd occasion, which has been very, very rare, when an item has arrived broken, full compensation as been given very quickly and simply.
Why force us to change the way we do things, I agree it cannot be legal, will have to look into that.
Are there any legal people out there who could answer this?

I googled it:
AI Overview
Yes, the practice of charging more to use one postal service if you op tout of another on eBay is legal in the UK, as it's a commercial decision made by eBay to encourage the use of it's mandatory Simple Delivery service. While frustrating for sellers, it's a feature of the platform's current policy for private sellers, who are automatically opted into Simple Delivery and may find their delivery costs increase if they exclude certain carriers.

@its_a_cats_life You can bet eBay's lawyers have already been all over it -- somewhere their T&Cs will give them the right to vary their terms, and continued use of eBay will be deemed acceptance of them. Amazon and banks do the same. It's usually, we've changed our terms, but don't worry, you don't have to do a thing! You can easily close your account if you disagree with them (etc.)
(later) -- User Agreement
Additionally, we reserve the right to vary or terminate all or part of our Services and/or not provide all or part of our Services to anyone for any reason and/or period of time, at our discretion.
From my PoV the only hope is that I can sell as 'free delivery' [included in the price] and avoid Simpleton Delivery altogether. I haven't checked since I removed my listings and haven't bothered doing any more yet. In any case I will now only use eBay for very straightforward items that are not challenging to pack and ship.

Stupid Delivery makes you select who's paying buyer or seller. If you select seller don't you still have to use their label?
Not sure as not had that happen to me yet.
31-08-2025 5:44 PM
I just posted an item not knowing anything about simple delivery, by sticking my own label on at the PO, totally ignoring Simple Delivery. Can't seem to find the button to dispatch my order but reading this, now explains all. Sorry eBay (not sorry) I'm taking all of my listings down. Bye.

Don't forget to contact eBay to claim the cost of your label back or you will pay twice as you will still be charged fir the Stupid Delivery label.

If the buyer paid the label they will get it refunded after 30 days. You might have to 'get label' in order to delete the tracking and replace it with your own.

Thanks. I sent the tracking details to the buyer in a message.

You can update your tracking on your sold item too, this way, preferably using a laptop / PC and not the app or mobile browser.

Yes eBay have killed it with simple delivery, once you get your parcel ready for dispatch you realise it’s now bigger than the set size you chose at the time of listing. If you post anyway you risk paying a fee sometimes around £60! Refund buyer, relist and put in next pigeon hole size simple delivery which may be a massive jump in price for the buyer. Complete loss of control and common sense, huge flaw. I can see many private sellers voting with their feet! Not before letting down a lot of buyers first through no fault of there own. I wouldn’t want shares in eBay right now. Once this was the best, now a car crash!
