So ebay have decided to force private sellers to use simple delivery for all listings.
Previously you could select advanced options in postage and select your preferred postage method as before.
Did ebay announce this to private sellers - did they ....
I searched around a while and eventually got this from the chat bot:
"Eligible listings will show Simple Delivery as an option when you're creating a listing. Starting 15 April, 2025, Simple Delivery will be the only delivery method available for private sellers when listing eligible items."
The recent changes like BPF and simple delivery have been extremely irritating but not terminal. I think this is terminal for me.
I cannot express on this forum without getting deleted my extreme annoyance with ebay.

I don't see any Free p&p listings on your account. I assume you've revised them, which would have been the answer.

Hello--we had a meeting yesterday (all 5 of us-never happened before) re the SD fiasco and the massive problems it's causing us. 3 are in favour of shifting platforms (as I write one just has) and I and Tony whilst extremely unhappy with eBay are going to give them a chance to correct this policy error-so at the moment listings all held back. I do take your point re free p&p but this causes problems with combination purchases and ALSO the eBay 'RM' option appears to be 15/20% more expensive thro' eBay rather than dealing direct with RM?. I'm thinking this must be a correctable error but others are not so sure. The other major problem is that none of us will dispatch via EVRi--so we'll give it say 4 weeks to stew--kind regards martin r

Is there any sign that ebay Uk are aware of the problems they are causing and listening to their customer base? It would be nice if there were a forum where ebay would interact with their customers.

There is such a thing.
On a Wednesday, there is an hour long opportunity to ask questions of the Ebay Community Team.

Sounds good but,in my opinion, eBay rather gave up listening/being concerned about their clients some while ago however the SD policy is a massive policy error and I agree that eBay should (and must already be aware of this situ). I did take this up with a customer rep a few days ago (having gone down the deliberately confusing eBay path that prevents you actually talking to a human incl waiting for 2 calls that were never received) and she was pleasant, obviously well aware of the problems, but basically reading from a script. She did put me thro' to 'someone' who could help but as soon as I began to talk they hung up on me! Sadly I'm thinking that eBay will only take remedial action when regular sellers move to other platforms--hope I'm wrong. I work with 4 others and 2 have voted to change platforms and one has already gone--I and Tony are going to give eBay 4 weeks to address and adjust this policy so trying to be optimistic--kind regards martin r

You can turn off Evri (in advance/by default) for most items/orders.
Ebay handles combined purchases (or decides not to combine). However, there has been at least one report of an order of two (e.g.) 12kg items being combined into one - therefore too heavy for SD. I would suggest customer services for that kind of issue.
Various prices and bands have been displayed to various people at various times. I'm not using SD so not focussed on the price. From what I've read, it appears the cost is sometimes more (and sometimes less) - but you are getting coverage up to £750, and according to one ebay employee SD covers items not normally covered by RM or Evri.

Yes and no. Be careful to ask questions that don't put them on the spot. Don't call them out if you're unsatisfied with "I'll go and talk to someone who hasn't got the guts to show up in this session and provide really helpful answers, and instead I'll come back later with a half answer".

@xyz307xyz wrote:"Collection in person" is from the seller's e.g. house or business - wherever you the seller specifies.
"Click & Collect" is typically a shop, that that the buyer chooses. You post the package using the label provided to the address of the e.g. shop.
The terminology causes great confusion.
Royal Mail offer a service called "Click & Collect". It used to be a free add-on, but now costs 30p extra (still good value for me). It means my postie comes and picks up my parcels. Very convenient if you work from home or have a secure place you can leave them.
Ebay also have "Click & Collect". This is where the buyer opts to have their parcel delivered to some place like Argos, and they go and collect it from there. Probably a good idea if they're not at home much and are a tempting target for porch pirates. A better idea than having to collect from RM's sorting office with ludicrously limited opening hours. Not such a good idea if they're a bit sloppy and forget to collect, so Argos either returns to sender or allegedly destroys the parcel.
So these two identically named services are totally different and address different problems. When discussing them clarity is essential.

Royal Mail's collection service is called 'Parcel Collect'. You may be getting confused with their 'Click & Drop' service.
You are right about similar terminology causing confusion though, especially if they have the same abbreviation such as 'Simple Delivery' and 'Special Delivery'.

My comments were perfectly clear.

Was just about to list a load of items until I just found out that 'Simple Delivery' is now the only option for me? So, basically I can't sell on eBay now? Because I don't have printer and I'm not going to buy one just because eBay have chosen to arbitrarily restrict sellers now? I have the urge to simply go with the 'Simple Delivery' option and just use the method I usually do to post (Royal Mail) but then I feel like that could risk me being open to buyers claiming I didn't send, etc, and all that and, presumably, eBay would back them up because I didn't use their label?
This is honestly the most off-putting thing eBay has done and that's saying something. It's not even a choice for me, I literally can't sell on eBay anymore.
And don't say 'you were warned in messages'. Judging by the amount of other people surprised by this it's very blatant eBay have a communication problem, in spite of their efforts. The proof is in the pudding. Very disappointing.

You don't need a printer.
You can take the 6 character code to a drop off Evri point which has a label printing machine (I don't know if all points do).
You can take the QR code to a post office on a mobile phone/digital camera etc. and they will print the label.
And new (as of couple of days ago) you can apparently book a royal mail collection and have them bring the label with them.

To clarify my message #72, Evri drop off points are only for Evri labels.
Post Office and Royal Mail are only for Royal Mail labels. (Well some Post Office locations handle Evri also - you would use the Evri machine there.)
You can choose one or both carriers here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/ship/prf/simpledelivery

My local Post Office does Evri as well as Royal Mail but there is no machine there. The parcels have to handed over the counter.

Can the PO staff print the Evri SD label? thanks

just sold an item that weighs 5kg but ebay "anything but simple delivery" has given me a delivery label for 1kg and £3.94 what can I do? I don't want pay twice for postage.
30-06-2025 8:21 PM
It's it's within the maximum size, just use the label provided.
Next time check the details when listing: https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/selling/posting-items/setting-postage-options/simple-delivery?id=5575#se...

So it’s now “free” to list on eBay except it now costs £2.70 to send an item instead of the 85p second class postage. It’s a disaster and I’m now bowing out of eBay. No more.

Today it appears that eBay have stopped me opting out of STUPID SIMPLE DELIVERY so that's me finished selling on eBay. BYE EBAY IDIOTS.
