So ebay have decided to force private sellers to use simple delivery for all listings.
Previously you could select advanced options in postage and select your preferred postage method as before.
Did ebay announce this to private sellers - did they ....
I searched around a while and eventually got this from the chat bot:
"Eligible listings will show Simple Delivery as an option when you're creating a listing. Starting 15 April, 2025, Simple Delivery will be the only delivery method available for private sellers when listing eligible items."
The recent changes like BPF and simple delivery have been extremely irritating but not terminal. I think this is terminal for me.
I cannot express on this forum without getting deleted my extreme annoyance with ebay.

When I list a postcard or trading card I just put that as the title and then chose “continue without match”
simple delivery appears as an option but it defaults to custom and shows 87p as the postage

I've had no warning whatsoever that Simple Delivery was going to be the only option. Where do Ebay get off just implementing anything they like without consultation or advanced notice. If you don't like the way this company does business and treats loyal customers like something they scraped off the sole of their shoes, then like me you should move to one of the other platforms that they do not have an interest in.

There were many announcements in eBay Announcements section. Also through eBay messages to sellers from early on this year ' warning' that Simple delivery was to first become active on April 15th.
This forum was full of queries regarding this, many sellers saying they still had the option of Custom Postage.
However, it was Always stated that SD was to become mandatory for all Private sellers, and it's been a very, very slow rollout. You've been very lucky if you have only now, been switched over to Simple Delivery.
If you're unsure on its workings, this link will explain:

Simple delivery is awful. Unless I'm missing it, I can't set signature required, only tracked? So what happens if a buyer claims I didn't sent the package?
18-06-2025 3:27 PM
The tracking is proof that you sent it. Ebay doesn't care about signatures.
If the package goes missing during delivery then ebay will refund the buyer out of their own funds and you get to keep your money

what are they thinking with this mandatory simple delivery, talk about bringing your own decline.

Which is the subject of a recent thread (sorry, I don't have the link to hand) where someone sent a gold coin worth around £750, thought they were using SD and therefore fully protected (if we can believe ebay) and it was actually sent by RM tracked, left on the doorstep and vanished.

Ah yes. The thread is called 'Simple Delivery failed: test case.... worried'

Poor seller (called richard something) sold a soverign for £590.00. He sold it through Simple Delivery, (that's easy to spot when you look at his 'sold items') because he had no option other than Simple Del.
Turned out that the ebay AI spotted that the coin was on the 'exclusion list' for insurance, and once the item had sold, the A.I. changed the postage label from 'Marketplace seller' (i.e. an S.D. label) to a bog standard R.M. 48 label ( so no insurance). WITHOUT THE KNOWLEDGE OR ANY INPUT FROM THE SELLER.
Seller did not notice the change of postage label (that's not entirely suprising: it's all so new, nobody really knows what to expect anyway....) and posted the coin.
Buyer claimed 'porch pirates' had nicked it. (might have been boll**ks but that's not the point of this case) and ebay then declined to cough up because it *hadn't* been sent as S.D.

TL:DR, don't sell anything on the (hysterically long) postal 'excluded from compo. lists', because S.D. won't cover it.

Thanks Lucy. https://community.ebay.co.uk/t5/Seller-Central/Simple-Delivery-failed-now-a-test-case-worried/td-p/7...
I have total sympathy for the seller's plight and hope eventually the story has a happy ending, though at the same time I just boggle at the idea of anyone selling things of that value on here. 20 years ago I bought some good camera lenses, sold a woodworking machine for nearly a grand, but things were utterly different then. Today I don't think I'd sell anything over £100 here. Even less if it's a mobile phone.

I've had enough, eBay used to be my preferred selling method, but now that its forcing me to use "Simple delivery" I've decided to go elsewhere.

I had that too, but it’s gone now

YEP IT'S PATHETIC. I want to decide how I post my items ,not eBay. I always use RM with the collection option as I live in a small village where the PO is only open limited hours 3 days a week. With STUPID SIMPLE DELIVERY I will now have to select RM rather than Evri and then having ordered a postage label have to go into the RM website and say I want it collected. Prior to STUPID SIMPLE DELIVERY I could order postage label and select the COLLECT 48HRS OPTION in one hit. eBay IT Department nust be the must stupid people on Earth and eBay Management equally stupid for allowing some of the rubbish changes they make such as the USELESS NEW MESSAGE SYSTEM which still keeps bring up parts of old DELETED & ARCHIVED MESSAGES. I just went to create a new listing from an existing one which is where I found thal ALL MY EXISTING LISTINGS HAVE BEEN CHANGED TO SIMPLE DELIVERY, I will let these listings complete but will not list anymore irems and it will then be GOODBYE EBAY - RIP.

Hi, I listed a few items yesterday for the first time in ages and found that 'simple delivery' was the only postage option now. I can't remember being advised of this and i have checked recent email and messages from Ebay. Also, like you I have also had 'click and collect' added to the postage options, and I don't even offer collect from home. So how am I supposed to get the item there? Plus their click and collect choice could be miles away. I've been on Ebay since 2005, and will now probably look for other selling options with other providers. Ebay have totally misjudged this. It may work in other Countries, but no the UK in my opinion

Hi. I don't understand on my selling page that my listings I have for sale now states that 'postage is free to buyer, you pay' I still enter the size of the parcel and weight on the SD but NOT that the postage is going to be paid by me. I always used RM 48 tracked before with collection as I don't live near a town, which I much preferred. EVRI??? Don't get me started with them! All I can say is they are absolutely useless with their tracking system being a complete joke!
26-06-2025 1:15 PM
You can delete Evri as an option that you do not wish to offer, RM does then become a little more expensive!🤔
You can turn off Evri for future items here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/

Hi.
I should have said that EVRI are useless regards deliveries to me. I can still sent parcels with EVRI so I don't want to stop that option.
At the moment I am still waiting for a delivery that was due last Monday from Ebay. They send emails every day to say it will be the next day. Last time it was a fortnight late! Not sure if this is a nationwide issue with EVRI or just locally. Our local town Facebook page is full of comments of lost parcels, deliveries to wrong addresses etc.

As I understand it RM collection is still an option but you have to go to the RM website after buyer has selected RM as the delivery option and change the optionto collection.

This has now been updated. Collection can now be booked via eBay and it is now possible to have the label brought to you if you are unable to print it yourself:
If you have a Royal Mail label, you can book a collection on eBay. Royal Mail can then collect your item and also bring the label for you if you don't have a printer. You'll need to book the collection before you create your prepaid label. Here's how:
Once you've booked your collection, you won't be able to change the date. If you miss your collection, you can book it again for another date on the Royal Mail website.

"Collection in person" is from the seller's e.g. house or business - wherever you the seller specifies.
"Click & Collect" is typically a shop, that that the buyer chooses. You post the package using the label provided to the address of the e.g. shop.
