Ebay simple delivery opt out

So ebay have decided to force private sellers to use simple delivery for all listings.

Previously you could select advanced options in postage and select your preferred postage method  as before.

Did ebay announce this to private sellers - did they ....

I searched around a while and eventually got this from the chat bot:

"Eligible listings will show Simple Delivery as an option when you're creating a listing. Starting 15 April, 2025, Simple Delivery will be the only delivery method available for private sellers when listing eligible items."

The recent changes like BPF and simple delivery have been extremely irritating but not terminal. I think this is terminal for me.

I cannot express on this forum without getting deleted my extreme annoyance with ebay.

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

You have said that Ebay cover any lost or stolen packages. Do you have the source for this please?

That means if i send a package and it gets lost or stolen and buyer claims not received, Ebay handle the claim with the courier?

I'm asking as other Ebayers have said that isn't the case.

Here you go here is eBay's statement on loss or damaged items sent under SD:

Get full coverage for your items

From the moment your item is scanned by the courier until delivery confirmation, the full value of the item is covered against loss or damage during transit. Plus, you won’t have to worry about responding to buyer claims.

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

Unfortunately, not for me. I noticed I sold a pair of trousers, which are very expensive and I was already selling it for less than £15.00 with a postage cost of £3.95, once I have expenses with tape and bag apart the delivery, to send the item… And suddenly, the trousers was sold by £12 something IN TOTAL!!! I was in disbelief!!! Not only THE PRICE OF THE TROUSER WAS DOWN, AS THE POSTAGE COST WAS £2.70… ZERO CONSIDERATION FOR THE PRICE I PUT ON THAT ONLY USED TWICE TROUSER, AND ON THE PRICES I PAY TO SEND A NICE PACKAGE!!! I went to check my listings, and BANG! Second shock: ALL MY LISTINGS WAS MODIFIED!!! EXPENSIVE PIECES, INCLUDED!!! It is disrespectful!!! I am searching for other platforms where I can sell my items, as they are part of my income, as long as my husband had a very bad illness and no longer is working!!! It is a shame!!! I have been selling on e-Bay since 2010… 😩

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

And they have the nerves to say: “we heard your needs and because of this, we are pleased to say that now, we can offer SD…” something like that. They do their choices, and put on private sellers the “responsibility” for that, as we pushed for that… 🙄 I am feeling disrespected and invaded, specially all my listing was altered to down, both in cost of the pieces and even on postages, which does not seems fair to me as I already have competitive prices… I am in loss now and will try to revise item per item, and see what can I do while I don’t feel familiar with another platform of selling… 😔

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

I am having the same issue with so-called 'simple delivery.' It is anything but simple - especially if you do not use qr codes, mobile phones or printers. I had to remove 131 items I had up for sale because eBay changed the postal settings across the board - meaning for some items I'd be over or under-charging my customers.

I contacted live-chat just a few minutes ago and what a waste of time, bless his heart, 'Satish' thanked me for my loyalty etc I asked him if I could opt-out, of course Satish danced around the issue quoting pre-set answers left and right - in the end he did not answer.   I gave Satish the example of an item I mailed out yesterday - ebay set it through simple delivery and charged postage to the buyer of £4.29 whilst adding an erroneous tracking number,  but when I went to the post office I was charged £5.40 for 2nd class recorded and from my receipt was the accurate tracking number. Satish didn't quite grasp my issue and all is in vain!

Looks like for now I am done with ebay and their stupid 'simple' delivery. Other platforms for now as well as donating old clothes etc to charities.

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

Just received my email saying my listings will be changing and updating to simple delivery that the prices may change and so forth.

I send all my items tracked 48 via RM so will be interested to see what services are required from me with simple delivery.

I suspect this could be the end for me time will tell.

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

It's an absolute joke, how are you supposed to know the weight and size until you wrap the item.. every item I sell is different. Time I put packing on etc it can slightly go over the wright.. need option to change, which has been taken away..

Ebay is becoming a useless platform second time they have just changed all my listing's..

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

"I had to remove 131 items I had up for sale because eBay changed the postal settings across the board - meaning for some items I'd be over or under-charging my customers. "

If you mean the 131 items were changed from whatever postage you had entered to Simple Delivery and showed different prices; then there was no need to remove them. Simple Delivery prices are different to Royal Mail and Evri normal prices. And even if you had previously priced it as a e.g. a Royal Mail 1KG medium parcel, if ebay had priced it as a Simple Delivery 1KG small parcel then the SD postage label would still be valid*.

"I was charged £5.40 for 2nd class recorded " Sounds like you bought completely new postage - there's no 2nd class recorded in Simple Delivery. If so, if the buyer paid postage they will, in theory get the SD postage cost back eventually. If you paid the SD postage, you can request it back. Also it is unlikely to track as delivered on ebay, so you will need to wait longer for payout.
You "need"** to use the Simple Delivery label. To get a Royal Mail label (AFAIK) you either need the QR code to show at the post office or to print your own label.

With Evri you also get a 6 character number and then could go to a Evri parcel place to get a label i.e. you don't need a printer, QR code, mobile phone etc. just pen and paper.

(*) If you had items which were above the maximum size/weight for the post office/royal mail (or Evri) and had previously offered a courier/rate which could handle those sizes/weights; then you would have an issue if they were switched to Simple Delivery. For any of those items, if you can't change them back to the "big/heavy items" courier yourself - I suggest you contact customer services.

(*) [Also a seller should not try and try and fool the system e.g. by in anyway implying the size and/or weight of the packed item is less than reality.]

(**) Well you don't need to use the SD label, but ebay may not like it, and you will wait longer for payouts.

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

If you turn off Evri as an option*, and if you print your own labels or use QR code at the post office; there won't be much change to your postage process. You may or may not find that if you have several purchases from the same buyer it gives you a label for each one rather than combining them. People have had mixed results with combined postage - hopefully ebay are moving in the right direction with it.

The label will currently say Tracked 48 or Tracked 24 - you just need to get it to RM.

If you need Royal Mail parcels collected - you will need to book that on the RM site separately - and for that they cannot currently bring a label.

Postage prices are different with Simple Delivery and when you can withdraw the proceeds of the sale is different.

You can exclude a courier from all active listings that use Simple Delivery. There may be exceptions where preferred couriers are unavailable due to your location or package size.

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

As long as

-(ebay determines) you are not trying to fool the system,

-the parcel is still less than the maximum weight and size,

if the size or weight is slightly more it doesn't matter.

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

It's not about whether some people like it or even if it's worked for you, it's about being able to make our own choice like these days is becoming more and more restricted. Of course many people prefer choices being made for them, so here we are.

Now that things appear to have settled down I’ve put some listings back up.

I always used tracked 48 and, having disabled Evri that’s what I was sent for the two sales I had over the weekend.

So SD was fine and no different from the old days of doing my own postage… except the new 2 day dispatch time is ridiculous and appears to include weekends. I sold an item on Saturday the 7th and the big red command message told me I must post by Monday the 9th!

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

I only have the option of SD. As the item (collector cards) fit in a standard envelope I'm able to send them with a second class stamp (85p). The cheapest option using SD is £2.74. Consequently, I can no longer sell these cards using eBay.

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

Totally agree with you. I've spent ages, going round and round hoping to turn it off, but nothing. I refuse to ship with Evri, as they have previously stolen the contents of my packages. And yes, the items shipped with them were in plain cartons and I even packed in larger cartons to disguise the contents. My only other option now is Royal Mail, but I cannot get to my local Post Office very easily. Lastly these only two supported options are more expensive. I've suspended listing any new items, plus I'm guessing that if I try to revise an active listing, this again will automatically switch to 'Simple' and more inconvenient shipping!!

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

I am still able to use the advanced option & set my own P&P. That said, Simple Delivery has inundated both evri & RM and two parcels have been lost for 3 weeks now. Would not have been able to claim as were china.

It's an utterly absurd system which will cause no end of problems for sellers.

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

I think your guess about revising items is correct, eilat_one - I've just tried to relist an item that didn't sell last week and the option to set postage has disappeared.  That's the final straw for me - I'm just going to pack up all the items I was planning to list after a grand clearout and take them to the charity shop.

I thought there was an exception for items under 100g but only if the value is less than £10 - maybe your cards are more valuable than that.

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

Nope. My cards are only worth a few pounds and there isn’t an option out.
Tried to relist this morning but only got the SD option
