Ebay's new buyer protection scam

So I have been a seller on and off her since June 2001, Over the years I have sent items recorded delivery that either never turn up , or arrive with no notification of delivery.  Now someone wants to charge a buyer a fee for safe delivery, when they would have been charged that in the P&P cost.  Frankly it sounds more like a scam than customer service and Ebay are also trying to force us to use their shipping option, So much for free enterprise, sound like trying to get the monopoly on delivery as well.  As for hanging on the sellers cash til 2 days after delivery, really so post office goes on strike and you don't get paid, Think I may start looking to leave. So much for eBay's loyalty to us .

Yes it's 100% true.

Ebay has a plan now to make big bucks and is pushing it.

Greed knows no limits, rich get richer etc. 😄

They will make few little changes and adjust small errors soon -  just to make more money.

At the moment they just capitalize and are counting profits.

Sure and that’s fine but the buyer protection is paid by the buyer and is included is the sale price they see not the sale price set by the seller the eBay fee is for them and and it an add on insurance which has nothing to do with the actual transaction between buyer and seller it’s an additional fee eBay charge on top but the offer process does not account for this as line you say the buyer thinks the prices they see is the price the seller is selling for when it’s not! It includes eBay’s addon fee! So if they thinly the item is £20 it’s not it’s really £18 pound. It just needs the protection fee to be separated from the selling fees then all is clear

Taking money from the buyer and pocketing it does not sound like buyer protection to me. It also drives up prices so that it is harder to sell.

Of course they 'pocket it' but then they use it to cover various costs.

It still looks like a con to the seller however new they may be. They put something on eBay at a fair price then eBay adds a sum to it which eBay then pockets for no reason whatsoever. Who is "protected" by this?

I have 2 estates to clear out, my mother in laws and my father's, both where prolific hoarders. I have rooms full of stuff to shift and 300 a month still wouldn't scratch the surface.

They've not done any deals near us. It's still a 3 hr drive to an Evri drop off.

Evri used to deliver to us at the old house. They just used to dump parcels on the drive. They were forever going missing. We got a ring doorbell but tmit made no difference because they wouldnt get anywhere near the door to either ring it or activate it

In terms of selling I removed Evri in home page.>Your name on top left with drop down menu>Account settings>Selling>Postage Preferences. That way they will use Royal Mail Tracked 48.

When buying I use whatever service the seller uses or Ebay as in say, simple delivery, eBay choose cheapest option, I do not experience delivery problems but if buying is a problem in terms of delivery I would ask seller to use whatever service that I would like them to use.

Post office tracked is now over £4 !
It’s far too much for the buyer when they also have to pay buyers protection for a £2.99 item.
Not good. It is affecting folks bidding now.

My view is still the same on this buyer protection, i had to explain this to a buyer the other night.

i asked for £12 they offered £12 but it had buyer protection taken out so i was not getting what i asked for and the buyer was not at fault either, luckily the next day the buyer wS understanding and paid the extra for the protection.

i have just had an offer of £10 now which i would accept but its again reduced to £8 something. I dont think buyers are aware of the BPF and how it works when it comes to offers,

the BPF was meant to be transparent and easy to see how it is paid (like vinted) it might work with auctions but with offers it just doesnt work the same. I am having BPF deducted from my offer

Unfortunately eBay are very much like Trump and believe in their own stupidity as, ego and greed are pushed to the fore. The words "common sense " have disappeared from general and business life as lawyers have dominated every aspect of our lives.  In essence, the whole BPF saga has been very badly thought through and handled with incredible ineptitude.

I think the best way to see it is this:

when you as seller make an offer it is the amount you wish to RECEIVE (Buyers protection is added to your price)

when a buyer makes an offer it the total/maximum they wish to PAY (buyers protection is deducted from that sum and goes to eBay.)

this is why your £12 was different from the £12 the buyer offered. 

I think the info you get and see though is very clear.

It is confusing and eBay should show what the seller is going to receive automatically before the seller agrees. We are not free labour for eBay. The need to do all work in regard to what a seller is going to receive on a private sellers account before the offer is accepted by the seller.

It doesn't help that the formula which eBay is using to calculate the BPF isn't as simple as you may think. 

They say it's 75p flat fee plus 4%. It's not.

We've all seen those 'odd' listings at £11.11 - that's because the sellers have set their prices at £9.99.

4% of 9.99 is .40 (rounded up). 

9.99 + .75 + .40 = £11.14. 

So why aren't all those listings £11.14?

Because eBay, in their infinite wisdom, actually do:

9.99 - .75 = 9.24.

9.24 x 4% = .37 (rounded up).

9.99 + .75 + .37 = £11.11.

To work out what the BPF is on any offer made by a buyer and how much they would actually receive, the seller needs to use the same formula, and deduct the total of flat fee and percentage from the offer price, eg:

9.99 - .75 = 9.24.

9.24 x 4% = .37 (rounded up).

9.99 - .75 - .37 = £8.87 

Except, of course, as you say, we shouldn't have to do it ourselves.

Ebay do not know what they are doing besides confusing themselves and us. They need to develop integrity and honesty, which is not easy with their track record and hierarchical attitude. They need to wake up as a company and getting proper management in place running the place that actually have common sense.

when they decided on bpf they should have made it clear the implication on seller offers from buyers

vinted don’t have this problem 

buyers know they have to pay a bpf and it’s nOT taken off any offers
